Tudor is on fire. Since its 2013 relaunch in the United States market, the Rolex corporate cousin has surged in public recognition and collector esteem. And this Tudor Pelagos Diver 25500TN is the flagship of the hottest name in the luxury sports watch marketplace.
The Pelagos is the modern incarnation of the famed Tudor Submariner "Snowflake" models of the 1960s and 1970s. As collector favorites and former standard issue for French and U.S. special forces, the "Snowflake" Tudors are an enthusiast institution on the vintage circuit.
Each Tudor Pelagos 25500TN draws aesthetic inspiration from the famed "Snowflake" hands, but this is no fragile relic; Tudor's comeback kid is built for rough-and-tumble treatment that would leave most Rolex owners with stomach knots.
Start with the brushed 42mm titanium case and matching bracelet. Both feature manufacturing tolerances worthy of Rolex and an exotic titanium hue unknown on timepieces bearing the five-point crown. The size and wrist presence is Submariner-plus, and the Tudor Pelagos features the kind of handsome modern proportions that Rolex attempts to achieve with its sometimes awkward "40mm" Super Case.
Tudor brings the feature content and tool watch credibility to put pricier competition to shame. A 500 meter rated depth, standard helium escape valve, sliding micro-adjustable clasp extension, ceramic bezel with fully illuminated markings, and an included accessory strap peg the value-for-dollar meter. Want more?
Naturally, there's more. This Tudor Pelagos 25500TN features a valid Tudor factory warranty along with a full Tudor factory box, product literature, and document set. As if Tudor didn't offer enough value already...

I think you meant Hans Wilsdorf. Hans Langsdorff was the captain of the Admiral Graf Spee and went down with his ship in 1939 during the Battle of the River Plate.

this was the best Pelagos review I watched and I watched them many! loved how you described it -- upscale, robust, etc... exactly these were the adjectives I had on my mind. I already own an Omega Speedmaster Pro, but already half-year daily flirting with the idea of purchasing the Pelagos. Now, that you mentioned that it won the Sports watch award (and Grand Prix Geneva), i'm almost there:)

+Mark Hurst Hi Mark, thank you! Whether you choose the original Pelagos 25500 or the new in-house 25600 (a beast), both are superb watches and the true heirs to the mantle of the Tudor Submariners. And because of distinctions in size and case material, the Pelagos goes one better than the Tudor Subs by offering a truly substantive alternative to the Rolex divers, not just a lower price. While the old Tudor Subs might have stood in the shadow of their Rolex cousin, I feel like the Pelagos is its own watch with its own merits - no longer an entry-level Rolex. Tudor offers a ton for the money with almost no compromise, and I think you'll be very happy if you opt to go that route. Best, Tim

Not bad for a first dive watch. I bought one and it feels like my last dive watch.

Rolex case, ETA movement. Good design combined with generic no nonsense movement that would not squeeze money out of your pocket once you get it serviced. Can't go wrong with those.

Superb review, as alway. I am wondering if you would care to speak a bit more about what you mean by the patina that the wearer might expect. Are you referring mainly to scratches in the titanium, or will there be a change in the color hues of the metal? Thanks in advance for your insight and perspectives.

+SuperPussyFinger Welcome to our channel! A complex patina develops on brushed titanium as the grain of the metal absorbs particles from the environment. It can be removed during a routine service, but the weathered effect suits a utility watch quite well. I'm seeing the same phenomenon in progress on my titanium bicycle, but on a much larger scale. Best, Tim

Great, great, gtreat watch...only downpoint is that the bezel sticks out over the case which might get it to come off when hitting it hard against something, like it got stuck when I fell down the stairs.

Guideaux Pelagos Ouch, were you OK? In general, these are pretty tough bezels, but a fall down the stairs could test the limits of any mobile dive bezel. Most of them project slightly off the edge of the case, but I know that Breiting does use screw-fixed bezels on most of its dive models to prevent exactly this type of violent separation. Best, Tim

I guess it popping off was a good thing...if it would have been screwed on it definitely would have bend or broken...
@the1916company

True, that's a heck of a blow for any watch to sustain. It shouldn't be too much of a challenge for a local watchmaker to repair, though. Were you able to have it rectified? Best, Tim

watchuwantinc I had it put back on at a local Rolex Dealer. It cost me 50 Euro and the Pelagos was a new! Thru the last year I made a whole playlist on the Pelagos...I love that watch! ;-)

0:25 isn't it Hans Wilsdorf?

In terms of "bang for the buck" would you consider this to be a reasonable purchase?
@the1916company
@the1916company 9 лет назад
Tobias Bolli Hi Tobias- absolutely! The Pelagos is very substantial watch in its own right, and the accessories received from Tudor add tremendous value. As with all luxury watches, they do lose some value if purchased new, but the value doesn't decline continuously like a car. After an initial drop, the watches with a permanent collector market (e.g., Tudor Pelagos, Rolex Sub, Omega Speedy Pro) will stop dropping and hold fast. We have one available on our website that is awaiting photography, but you can see our "sneak peak" of the watch with pricing right here: www.watchuwant.com/watches/tudor-pelagos-diver-500m-ref-25500tn-42mm-titanium-black-ceramic-bezel-boxes/papers-100-1 Best, Tim
