The Pelagos is the great bargain in fine mechanical tool watches. The Tudor now has a 5-year warranty, just like the Rolex, yet it has a 70-hour power reserve. Both watches/movements are COSC-certified chronometers. The dial is more readable, and the lume is much better. The coin-edge bezel is easier to adjust with gloves. It is a much lighter watch with its Ti case and band. The Ti bracelet is a much better, more modern design, and more comfortable. It is a better band for diving, by far. And, it comes with a rubber watch band as well. The Rolex is a more highly finished watch and is more elegant, but the Pelagos is the best tool watch in the greater Rolex inventory. If you really want a piece of jewelry, buy the Sub. If you want a better watch as an everyday watch that everyone and their brother isn't wearing, get the Pelagos... and then get something that is dressier for a dress watch.

This is a situation where you purchase the classic Submariner and then a blue Pelagos. All the problems in the world disappear! That would be the perfect summer diver duo. A pop of color for the sunny days and a bit of class for the more formal attire.

love these versus episodes, between these two my money'd go to the tudor though i do agree its way too thick compared to the submariner, it'd be great to see the pelagos vs the planet ocean since they've got similar dimensions & both fit between the 300m vs submariner & ploprof vs seadweller categories

For actual use as a dive watch, the Tudor wins from a functionality standpoint. From the standpoint of which is the better looking of the two for the vast majority who'll never scuba dive? The Submariner wins. As for which I'd choose? Omega Seamaster all day long.

I banged my Pelagos against my refrigerator really hard. I am a complete moron and was afraid to see the damage. Finally I looked and there wasn’t a mark on it. Really a solid watch. Give the Rolex as a gift, don’t worry that the Rolex is 3X the price. I have the blue Tudor and love it. Then again I’m sure I would love the Rolex.

The reason a Sub has a 5-year warranty versus the Pelagos's 2-year warranty is because it costs $6K more. Look, both watches are precision machines, both are COSC chronometers, but one has a 70-hour power reserve, the other doesn't. One is made of lighter and stronger material, the other isn't. One has a very adjustable metal band clasp (the Pelagos), the other doesn't. One is easier to read, the other isn't. One is a fine piece of jewelry (Rolex), the other is the ultimate precision tool watch. If you were stuck on a desert island, the Pelagos is the better watch. If you don't care about status, but want the best mechanical tool watch out there, buy the Pelagos. The Pelagos is what the Submariner would be if it was redesigned today.
@johnclifford1911

Maybe not right away, but it would be useful for many purposes including navigation. I would think if one is serious about surviving, a watch would be a net positive.

They are so similar and at the same time so different, and both look great! Constituent is I. :-) I admire (geekily, as I am not going to dive in it) the tech of Pelagos, I like the 1/4 of the price and the easy availability, compared to Rolex. I like the Sub as well, and I am ready to buy it at MSRP (I am on one queue for the Hulk) but I am not ready to buy Sub as grey price of 10-plus grand. What would happen if I had both Sub and Pelagos? I don't know, tbh. I would not sell either, but what would I prefer to wear, I am not sure. Would probably have to switch them from one day to the next. I am not bothered by 7 lines of text on the Pelagos, though, yes, I would prefer to skip "Rotor-Self Winding" as it is self-explanatory.

As a Pelagos owner I love this watch. I was surprised how overlookd he is. Everybody either recommends Omega SMP or a Sub while the Peli is ignored or advised against since it is "a really good watch" but you know... It's not a SMP or Sub. And that's perfectly fine. I think the Peli is still building its name and even if it remains under the radar - that's ok since it is an awesome watch on it's own. I highly recommend it to people who like matte, more mature looking watch without unneeded attention seeking bling. Mine runs minus 1 sec a day, but leaving it with crown down he gains 1 sec, so essentially I keep him in ~ +/- 0 secs a day.

If I was going to have more than one luxury watch, then I’d have the Pelagos over the Submariner, since it’s the technically better dive watch. If I wanted one watch to suit every situation, however, then I’d go with the Submariner all day long.

Shawn Dowling It does mark and scratch,it’s a watch I wear everyday I go swimming in the sea and at the pool most days.l accidentally bang the watch against door frames and handles it copes with everything I’ve done. The clasp doesn’t like concrete pool sides when you rest arms after a swim. I clean it once a week in cool fresh water with an old tooth brush after which it looks like new. Totally recommend

How can you compare thickness and therefor elegance of these two watches....one has a depth rating of 500m and the other 300m. That’s a huge difference and water resistance in terms of engineering design is partially a product of material use and thickness. In my opinion they are not comparable in this manner.

Love Tudor but I don't understand why they choose to make the watches so thick, surely they have the same manufacturing ability to make them as thin as the Rolex watches? Or even if they kept the thickness but just trimmed down the slabbed sides, it would make a massive difference. Rolex leave a lot more caseback compared to the case sides so they don't sit as close to the wrist as Tudors and I think it's just a better way of doing it.
@Ken-vl4wk
@Ken-vl4wk 4 года назад
You don’t understand anything about diving watches or physics. Look at Rolex Sea Dweller Deep Sea 1220m or 3900m. They are waaaay thicker than Pelagos. These are TOOL watches and they have to keep working under a massive pressure. If you want a thinner watch, then get a Swatch.

I totally get it, steel is nice and titanium is definitely not for everyone. That's said, I love how Rolex promotes their special grade of Steel. It's more corrosion-resistant! yeah, so many 150 dollar watches from companies like Seiko and Citizen are so badly corroded... thank goodness Rolex was able to come up with this amazing grade of Steel. I mean, after all, so many guys wearing Submariners wear them in incredibly challenging conditions like offices and country clubs. All of those snide comments aside, the Submariner is a hell of a watch! This tutor is pretty darn affordable and offers a lot as well.

The Tudor Pelagos with Ti case is a better looking watch than the sub-mariner. There is one line of unnecessary text as it is obvious that this watch is a self-winding movement and all of these non-quartz versions of dive watches are self-winding. Thus, the text information is redundant without saying it, if that is possible. I like the very flat aspect of the watch, visually. The band is also superior to the Rolex and superior to almost every other bracelet out there on the market. My only quarrell with the Tudor, is that mine has stopped ticking after just three weeks of use. It stopped while I was wearing it. Although it has started up a couple of times, the reason that it stopped has not been determined. The fact that the watch starts from time to time, doesn't tell me why it stops. I am in process of sending the watch in to find out what is wrong with it. Maybe I just need a new watch. AF

Dated watch. :) Doesn't even have an anti-reflective coating on the glass :)) Pelegos--good price for a mi-range/price watch, has all the features even an enthusiast would want, "up to date"...even has the dive fetures most will never need...just doesn't have the ache of the ROLEX name.... But IS clearly a better watch...most watches aare :))

It’s time for black-on-black crime! I have both of these but the green subby. The Pelagos is my favourite watch and the one I actually take diving. For me it’s the diver’s diver! I do shark diving a lot and I think polish on a watch would be a bad idea for such a dive, though on the wrist it’s less likely to be confused with a fish than something hanging as I’ve had with a little bell before. The Pelagos has fantastic wrist presence and I wear it on a marine Nationale strap now. The legibility is quite frankly unrivalled by anything else in my opinion the thing is absolutely beautiful!

Diver watches should only by sold to certified divers...lol. The amount of ignorance we see in the comments is stunning. People who prefers Rolex are completely clueless.

If you are using it for actuual diving, then the Pelagos. I can't dive but have seen divers saying a single luminous pip on the bezel is better, a fully lumed bezel is distracting as a diver references the elapsed time with the minute hand from the bezel pip against the dial indexes. The Pelagos looks cheap compared to the Rolex, non-appliqué indexes and mmuch less elegant. For an all-round watch from beach to board room the Rolex Submariner wins hands down. The true champ, from beach to boardroom and for diving is the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms on the X71 bracelet for the boardroom and sailcloth strap for diving, anti-magnetic Faraday cage and 120 Hr power reserve with Frédéric Piguet movement and backed by Swatch Group, it trounces both Rolex and Tudor.

The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms looks quite good, not as compact as the Submariner or Deepsea.

I'd say the Tudor Pelagos was a better watch for diving over the fifty fathoms, more range in depth and a helium escape valve for saturation diving. The fathoms is handsome though.

The Tudor absolutely slaughters the Rolex in every area other than resale value and publicly perceived image. You won't lose money on it though if you buy it on unworn off chrono24 or something like that... I just wish it was a little thinner like the new FX but with a date. If I'm going to wear a watch that doesn't even keep accurate time and has no other features other than telling the time at least give me the date which I find very useful. Anyway, by what you like people. Nobody really cares if you wear a Rolex in the end. But if you like the Rolex, get it.😊

Tim, STOP covering up the lume shot with the advertisement boxes of other videos. It ruins the lume shots and makes an otherwise excellent video look AMATEUR

Pelagos is a great value prop and I think the LHD is the pick of the bunch. Only problem is it's very tall and doesn't hold its value well

Nice video, but I disagree. I think you've made your choice based on a spec sheet, the sum of its parts. The sub is the originator, a timeless design without which the Pelagos would've not had a chance. (Nothing against the Pelagos, it looks like so much fun)

What a fuck you are talking about? Lol. First of all, Omega created the first diver’s watch. Submariner and Pelagos are two different watches for different purposes.
