Before 1986 the NI continuity called the channel 'BBC1' if a network programme was coming on, only calling it the full name when a local programme was coming on. In 1986 they called the channel 'BBC Northern Ireland' without dropping the '1' from the logo, then they settled in 1987 for always calling the channel 'BBC1 Northern Ireland'.

As it is referred to BBC1 rather than BBC1 Northern Ireland, I'm wondering if this is the Network announcement over the NI globe? Would that have been likely?

No, it was David Gamble announcing in Belfast. Referring to "BBC ONE Northern Ireland" in full was quite rare until about 10 years ago. Local trails only added the "Northern Ireland"about 5 years ago.
