Anita I hear you loud and clear about being over 60 and trying to get the right macro's and everything to work for your body, especially after decades of malnurishment. I'm in the same boat. I went Keto in August 2019 and then started to put just a few pounds on early this year and learned about carnivore. So in April this year I embarked on my carnivore journey. Since then I added another 10 pounds cuz I was eating til full but what I've learned is that my hormones are so out of wack and I don't stop eating when full so I've been tinkering with eating amounts/macro's, tracking my food, changing eating times and now I'm onto the 80/20 OMAD trying to at least jump start something!!! I've been at a standstill/plateau for over 2 months and it's frustrating as heck. I'm so appreciative of your videos and the support you and others bring. I know we all feed off of one another for encouragement and comradere. We're all so much healthier than when we first started and this is a life journey and I thank God for you and everyone sharing and knowing we're not alone in this at all.

Congrats on your beginning results. I have a couple of suggestions on your Keto Mojo I have found to help me. You don't have to turn on the monitor first, just put in the strip and it comes on. Most people will do the shorter test first because you have more blood for the second one. Cut your strips out of the little envelopes with a pair of children's scissors. They are small enough to stay in the carrying case. You can feel where the test strip is so you don't cut it. Leave your last strip in the monitor and do the sync. It will keep the monitor on and then you can take out the strip. I use an old water bottle (like the kind you find in any place that sells sodas, etc.) and put my needles in it. When it fills up and it takes a while even with the small bottle size, I can then throw it away and I don't worry about some animal or whatever getting into the needles accidently. Nothing you have to adopt, just passing on what I have found with doing this testing. I think I will have to go with the three meal a day thing. I am used to doing two meals but my ketones don't go up beyond one. I got it up to 1.4 one day but I was fasting because I was traveling and didn't want to eat until I got home to cook. But I am also halfway of the opinion that I am one of those people who don't produce high ketones.

Hey. I'm glad you're feeling encouraged. You're doing great! Those videos are definitely making a difference for me. I noticed something else that was different on your first and third day. Eggs. I mention this because I can't eat egg whites myself and I can only have egg yolks once or twice a week. Egg whites not only give me inflammation, but they also cause me to gain weight. I can't do any of the delicious egg white bread concoctions and if I have a deviled egg I expect to see a five pound difference on the scale for a day or so. The delicious ice cream is something that I've realized is a once or twice a month treat if I want it. I find the butter bites just as tasty and think I can play with hints of flavor with them. The eating them in a frozen state has been amazing for me and I can't thank you enough since they've helped me drastically up my fat without having the negative gastro results butter has often caused me. It's also allowed me to get my protein intake back at a level that feels more comfortable to me. I've noticed a couple of things with my own eating. The cut seems to matter along with the animal when it comes to whether I start getting hungry again or not. I'm going to do an experiment when I get groceries again this weekend and see if the butter can offset that. Basically, if a piece of meat is not very fatty, I can just keep eating if I didn't divide my portions out. For example Eye of Round I could easily eat 4 pounds in a day and not bat an eye. Bacon, I could just eat (if it didn't cause inflammation. Pork is just a nono for me.) Any of the Teton sausages will barely touch my hunger and I will gain weight almost immediately from them. Sardines I do well with. I wish I liked them more. Chuck, as long as I've increased my fat to where I have a stick or more spread out through the day, I'm quite full on a pound. I sometimes am eating a little less and sometimes eating a little more. maybe 1.25 pounds, but I'm not a really active person. My muscles do not appear to be shrinking, but visual changes are happening in the areas where I have extra fat. My hormonal symptoms have improved drastically. I'm sleeping better and have more energy. I drink an LMNT pack once or twice a day. I prefer the orange, grapefruit, and chocolate myself. I use a 40 or 64 ounce water bottle and will drink a quarter down at full flavor. Add more water, then do so again when it gets half. I also add iodine and extra magnesium (KetoChow)to the initial filling. Depending on what I'm doing I might add additional electrolytes drops from KC, too. I don't find the stevia in the LMNT really makes a difference on my glucose levels, though I recognize we're all different and I think that's key. Finding out what works best for each of us as individuals because we each have different issues we're dealing with. Another interesting thing about eggs for me is I'll start noticing the lipomas in my arms, inner thighs, pelvic, and one rib area to start growing again to where I can feel them. Since raising my butter consumption they've shrunk back down to where I can only feel a few very tiny nodules if I really try. I had a partial hysterectomy in my early 30s and have had hormonal issues since. Really bad ones. Carnivore did help me a lot with those, but the difference since considerably upping my fat has been unbelievable. I don't have labs again until the beginning of next year, but I'm eager to see where I'll be with another few months of this. I should say I'm not limiting my fat intake. If I start to think about eating but I don't feel hungry, I'll grab one or two of them and eat them. Each of mine are 2 TBSP. I use the meatball mold on Amazon and they're perfect. I've noticed the scale is starting to move again, very slightly, but more importantly the aforementioned problem areas are shrinking. I'm all for slow and steady in the hopes more of my extra skin will tighten, but I do know it all seems to matter for me. If I eat even two pounds of protein a day I start gaining weight. I'm 64 inches tall. Keep doing you and figuring out what works best for you. You're doing great! You're looking phenomenal! Have a beautiful glow. And, you're helping all of us more than you realize with those tasty recipes of yours. Stay brilliant! 🦋

Anita! You may not have people digging through the garbage at your house but downstream there are the garbage workers at the landfill. My remedy? I place the strips in a small ashtray on my counter and when it's full I place them in a baggie with red paper or heavily marked coloring in red. Wrapped and taped so the red is showing. Then I dispose of it in the garbage. Red is the international color for hazardous material. Measure on.

I have been stalled for a couple of years with my weight loss. I initially lost 40# and would like to lose another 30 but it just will not move. I lost 2# in the first week but nothing extra since then. The thing that I have noticed is that I am not gaining and losing like I used to...I think that I have gained and lost the same 4# over 100 times! I have noticed that I have more energy and am not as lethargic as I was so that is a bonus. I am like you in as much as I don't have age on my side, I'm 63 and my body wants to hug it's weight. It's a comfort, and know how valuable you are to us I tried to remind myself slow loss is good, for it gave my skin more a chance to catch up. If you've been at LCHF this long, you may remember that Dr. Atkins used to say to end a stall, eat 90% fat for just a couple of days. He really understood the "easily fattens/lose slowly" patient, cuz he saw a lot of them, and every once in a while, I think every "new" idea is really Atkins's old idea, with glitter on it. Also, (gods forbid), if you ever have cancer, stroke, symptoms of dementia, your GKI isn't far from therapeutic levels that might address those situations. Hope that's never an issue, but it's good to know in advance what you need to do to get it down to 1-3.

I have been taking glucose readings for 3 years now and never used alcohol, dries out your hands and soap is just fine. My hands get cold and I cant seem to get any blood out of them. Since these come in individual wrappers, I know they will be fresh until the date. When they are all in a little bottle and you open it, they will expire all at once and the ketone strips are SO expensive, I only take readings now and then. Glucose I take daily. I use my lancets for at least a few days if not a full week. I found many people do this. I hope there have been improvements in the APP since last I used it. You are doing so much better than me. Full Carnivore 8 wks, 1 1/2 on higher fat but never could hit better than .9 ketones. The GKI is very hard because my glucose is always too high. Feel Good, I have never lost more than 2 lbs a month and most times its nothing. I figured that higher fat is what I need to we will see. I am 65.

@cindy4678
@cindy4678 Год назад
@@lf4193 Those best buy dates are a strange one. This isn't like you are ingesting anything, I would use them knowing they might not be accurate but you always take that chance. The meter does not give you any indication other than it will "error" if it doesnt like anything. Not enough blood will error for sure. Many times I have had the glucose be very high and I will take again with a different meter and its more normal. (as much as 50 points difference). So far ketones usually read at least some (.5 - .9) which is good enough for me. I would have to fast 36 hours or more to hit 1.0 +.

Hi Anita! Wanted to share something about the muscle cramps. I realized a few years ago that I was actually consuming too much salt. I was taking magnesium supplements to combat horrific muscle cramps at night. Once I backed off the salt, I no longer needed the supplements. When I first started keto I absolutely inhaled salt. But since becoming more ketovore, I just don't need as much. I've seen others in this keto world mention similar discoveries. Just a thought to marinate on :).

I noticed that here too with the salt…..additionally I have upped my Potassium by having a small avocado per day and also having a minimum 1/5 of a tsp of oyster extract and or a can of oysters….found that out from Stephanie Person!!…and it works!. I also have been using another Keto gurus’ ….the one that has incredible punishments for non compliance…..for 80/20 ratios in their 30 day plan/cleanse. I just use the portion sizes for that ratio as a guideline and ignore the other ingredients and use my own which is way way tastier than theirs to the point where I make a totally different recipe with other ingredients.

Hi Anita, one tip using the KM. Turn the KM on, when it's on then press and hold the big button again. GKI appears on the screen. The monitor says to put your glucose strip in first (5 seconds counting). After that reading the monitor says to put in your ketone strip (10 seconds counting). When that reading is done, your GKI appears automatically on the screen from the KM

You know, as a former type II diabetic, I happen to have a Glucose & keto monitor called Lifestyle Precision Neo....and I used to track ketones & BG out of curiosity (not necessity, as low carb reversed the disease without medication), but before the GKI became a thing to monitor as for nutritional ketosis. *I’m not sure if I can sinc my results with Chronometer with my device, but you have me pretty excited in seeing the mojo be able to do that! -Even if mine doesn’t do this, I can learn from Dr. Boz’s site as to how to calculate it. -Like you, I’m not sure how long I will want to test, but just wasting those types of smaller meals with higher fat should in and of themselves, make me feel pretty good about how I’m doing...but I will definitely check out chronometer and my meter to see if I can at least get on board and test occasionally as I begin this way of eating! Hi Anita! Another Canadian here. I purchased the Fora 6 Connect (from Fora Care Canada) based on a recommendation from Dr. Boz Keto Continuum book. It was $239 CDN and came with 100 Glucose strips and 100 Ketone strips. It was free shipping on orders over $80. It is a multi use device that measures, glucose, ketones, cholesterol and uric acid. If you follow Lindsay Murphy she is currently using it to test her uric acid. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and have found it very interesting. It has an option to display your GKI or the Dr. Boz ratio as well. I believe they have a refill bundle of 100 of each strips (BG and KT) for $195. It is expensive but if anyone is interested in the data and have had a hard time getting the Keto Mojo in Canada - this might be an option for them. I hope this helps! Btw - love your channel. Hi, this was very interesting to see. I think you need to add a lot more fat, for me it has made a huge difference. I don’t always feel like eating fat but then I wait until I am more hungry. Just make sure you always eat the fat with the meat and don’t consume rendered fats.

Interesting that Dr. Bright suggests at least one stick of butter a day, in addition to our fatty meats. She says some women need two~ that's half pound of butter a day! Took me a bit to even get to half a stick, or 2 oz of butter, & now I'm up to almost one whole 4 oz stick ~ and FINALLY the scale is moving for me- yay! It's been many months w/zero weight loss, & prior to that only about 15 lb total~ in a whole year! I started at 207 lbs, now weigh 188, w/an approximate "goal" weight of 160. Seems easy, right?! Actually, it seems I'm "one of those women" as well. My amount over ideal weight range may not seem so drastic, yet the challenges & struggle are the same for a certain group of us, no matter how much we want to lose to be our healthiest weight.

I love data. That said...it got really expensive buying all the blood strips. So I finally bought a "Biosense" breath meter. Body fat burned as fuel exits the body from the breath. So I could have a pee strip or blood strip indicate low or no ketosis because they measure the unused ketones. Biosense measures the acetone which indicates the burned. It is the device used in the "metabolic flexibility" studies for reversing cancer. I can take my measures multiple times a day (at no additional expense) and actually see when I am burning and if I ate something or at the wrong time that stifled ketosis. I still use a glucose monitor from CVS. Strips are cheap.

I've started tracking a few weeks ago in Cronometer and it's been very helpful. I'll take any small victory I can get but this is a process. I know my hormones are a big problem and this has been decades in the making so results will be slow and steady.

Same here Patty. Tracking and looking at the graphs really get me informed on the 80/20. Quite eye opening

Same here, carnivore has been a slow struggle for me. And I hate tracking. But it has opened my eyes and so it will be interesting to see what happens this month!

@@KetogenicWoman I think that does help ..that's what I need is ideas with food. My daughter is giving me her keto mojo to try so that will help me hone in on the ketone thing. I am a very slow but steady loser. 3 lbs a month on average. 47 years old. It's discouraging to see all the others peeling off tons more weight but I understand not everybody's the same. I do feel great. Went from a 20 to a 14 . 40 lbs down but slowing down

My go to is LMNT, I drink one packet a day. If I think of I also add unflavored KC drops to my coffee!
