How can it be removed so i can Change the color or upgrade. Sand blasting seems very expensive
@BoatOutfitters
@BoatOutfitters 5 лет назад
If you are looking to remove the previous surface to prep for a new Tuff Coat color or re-application, we would recommend either hand sanding, sandblasting, or soda blasting. The sandblasting uses sand particulates propelled at high pressure to scrape the surface, while soda blasting uses sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). You would follow up after this process with cleaning and prepping the surface again like you would for your first application of Tuff Coat. We hope that answers your question, but please let us know if we can be of any more assistance! :)

How do I tint the light grey to dark grey? Can I add any grey or black paint to tint it?

8 years ago I built a 25' long pirate ship and used the TUFF COAT Sand color to cover the plywood deck. First time I primed the surface, but since I've put another coat on each year to freshen it up. I'm VERY happy with this product. There is NO rot on the deck and people love the surface with bare feet. Grips but not abrasive.

I already coated my jon boat with rustoleum spray rubberized paint. And now I want to put on the Tuff coat over it. Should I lightly sand and then apply the tuff coat?

Planning on using your Tuff coat Key West Sand color on my aluminum boat interior. With this adhere to unpainted metal? Also, I was going to use a fine paint spackling like Rustoleum. Will these two be compatible?
@BoatOutfitters
@BoatOutfitters 3 года назад
Hey Steve, great questions! It is highly recommended to use the Tuff Coat MP-10 Primer on your aluminum before painting. As for the Rustoleum, I would think not. Tuff Coat is a water-based paint, so if the Rustoleum is also water-based then it might work, but this is not tested and we would not recommend this. Please feel free to reach out to our customer service team at 866-633-7961 for any extra details regarding Tuff Coat! :)

I just replaced the floor in the garage of my toy hauler and this looks like exactly what I want to cover the new plywood floor. I used treated plywood, that shouldn't make any difference should it?
@BoatOutfitters
@BoatOutfitters 4 года назад
It shouldn't make any difference! Just be sure to use the primer before putting down Tuff Coat. If you have any other questions, our customer service team would love to help answer them for you at (866)-633-7961 :)

My boat is a 2000 Center Console Hydra sports. I am starting to get some very light spider cracking of the gelcoat. I do not have any large areas, would this fill and cover to protect the deck vs. gel-coating? I also want to use a light blue to tone down the white deck which over the course of the day become blinding with the sun we have in Florida. Any advise?

@BoatOutfitters 3 года назад
Hey Robert! The true answer is no... Our customer service manager painted his boat which had gel coat crazing. Initially, the paint filled/covered the cracks, but he said he can see some of them now, and noticed them just a few weeks after painting. The Tuff coat may hide some of them, but not all of them

Can this be used on a boat ramp or on wooden steps that go under water?
@BoatOutfitters
@BoatOutfitters 4 года назад
That's a great question! Tuff Coat is not recommended to be submerged, however, UT-100AQ is great for underwater applications, such as pool interiors. Hope this helps :)

What sprayer did you use and what size opening is used ? Are you saying to use the cp10 primer if you have a painted boat ? I have a old ranger boat and it has a medal flake paint under a clear coat . Do I just sand on the clear coat to ruff it up ? At first you said after the first coat you had to prime it before the next coat years later . Then at 16:25 you said you waited 24 hours and put another coat on it . After the 24 hours on the first coat did you put primer on it again for the second coat ? I guess what I'm asking is will the second coat after 24 hours bond to the first layer and if so why would you put a primer on a first coat that was done say a year or 2 before ? Its its going to bond to the first layer after 24 hours I would think it would bond the a first layer done years before .

Hey there Steve, you can get a sprayer from central pneumatic - recommended by tuff coat. If the paint isn't coming off your deck and it won't peel up/delaminate then you can sand the paint and prime right over the paint. Just remember that the primer needs something to bite to. However, the safer way is to take all the paint off and then prime. You need to prime before painting the first layer of tuff coat, and if you re-paint it later on, it will also need to be primed before painting. Cure time varies depending on heat and humidity. If the time in between painting exceeds 48hrs you will need to re-prime. You can also find more details on Tuff Coat's application page (linked below), but please let us know if you have any other questions! tuffcoat.net/application-manual/

I want to put it on concrete. I need to cover cracks in the concrete. Do you think to put the primer in thick on these holes? or the TuffCoat on thick? or do you recommend something else?

During our video, Bulldog 3071 also asked: What is the expected life span of the material when applied properly under normal wear and tear. Here is the answer! Generally, Tuff Coat has a life expectancy of about 10 years. It may vary slightly depending on the type of wear and tear and the grit strength (smooth, medium, coarse) on your specific application, but 10 years is the average. Please let us know if you have any other questions! :)
