Thank you for a wonderful video. Nice to see tug operations from the captains chair. Your triple camera view was excellent, really appreciate that. That is a very large shear leg crane at the end!
Just awesome. To watch all 3 controls all the time is a brilliant insight to the way of controlling the system. I just couldn’t stop watching for a moment. Splitting the screen in three was a master stroke. I have been lucky enough to have a trip on a Voith tug and it brings back happy memories.. great work and now subscribed to watch more. Amacf
Dunno if anyone gives a shit but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times you can watch all of the latest series on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my brother lately :)
I bet that it is very challenging to keep the line taut when you are in front of a large ship under its own power. You do a phenomenal job of it! But the engines were singing for about 4 minutes as you pulled that ship around, between about minute 13 to 17. The wind was blowing pretty hard that day, it looks like. With a ship that lightly loaded, sitting so high in the water, it is like a giant sail, I imagine. Great work, and probably a bit stressful. Thank you.
I love and enjoy your fids very much and thank you for all the work you do in the boat , and at home to give us this view . Thank you again from the west coast of Canada ..
@@ShippingHarbors your tugboat looks awesome with the turbo whistle with diesel power 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Ik heb daar ook nog (veel) mogen mee vaten . Legerdienst bij de Marine in Oostende. "De Spin", sleper getransformeerd om personeel van het station naar de 'logistiek' te vervoeren. Heerlijke tijd , lees : 1977. Mooie video (al de andere trouwens ook)
Beautiful video in scenery and skill. Is the set of levers on the left prop pitch and the dual row of lights engine speed? Which port is this? With a harbor pilot involved I recall hearing tugs' horns answering a pilot's orders. Did you do that or just radio? Amazing you could go full astern power on that one thin cable without parting it! Relaxing and interesting to watch - old Navy ship OOD underway.
Thank you very much for your videos. I am an R/C modeller and i am trying to build a Voith Schneider tugboat in large scale so your videos are perfect for setting my Radio. I also have a question. Sometimes you are pressing a button behind the steering wheel like on 32:06. What that button doing? Thank you from Greece
Great stuff, I really enjoy your videos. How long does it normally take for someone, who is experienced and skilled with 'normal' propeller & rudder boats, to learn the Voith system?
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing! What do the red buttons at the bottom left with yellow lights do? Each time they changed the position it sounded like the engine rpm changed.
Good day mate, I'm an ASD Tug master since 2010, but I never had a chance to handle a VSP. From this video I noticed that VOITH mark on the rudder was upside down, is that mean that this tug doesn't have 2 controller on the bridge? And you all the time must facing at the stern with the controller that supposed to be used facing the bow? Sorry for the bad english, coz I'm from Indonesia.
It looks like,(particularly when leaving the key-side), the ships' thruster is opposing your pull? Some special technique there? Would be nice to hear the radio as well. Do you have mirrors to keep an eye fwd or is your head on the swivel all the time? Makes for a sore neck. Does the pilot give you a heading to pull or and angle from the bow? Really like the time stamps. Last question; Is the scale indicator below the wheel a directional vector indicator? Thanks
looks like this was in Rotterdam , or atleast a dutch Tug company , the "nooit afzetten!"( never switch off !!!) in the cam shot on the right gives that away.
Yes,Yes,Yes - thank you for all these unique dual camera videos! Some questions please - do this tugboat has two conning positions on the bridge, I mean - do you have separated levers for (revolution, rudder and driving pitch ) when you drive the tugboat forward and other levers when you drive backward or you just reverse the direction of the captain chair on 180 dgr? And when you pull the ship driving backward how do you orientate yourself - with radar, electronic chart, ais or visual?
+ufolev Hello, these tugs only have 1 conning position, and the captains chair turn 180° indeed :) Orientation is done visually most of the time, and at night the radar and chart is also used.
I’ve watched many of these videos. Can someone explain what each of the 3 controls are doing? It’s not immediately obvious watching this what each is doing. The Voith controls are very different from a normal tug.
There are two diesel engines powering two thrusters. The thrusters can be turned through 360 degrees, and have variable pitch blades. The wheel positions the thrusters, the two handles vary the blade pitch, and the red buttons control the engine RPM (speed). By varying the blade pitch, the amount of thrust can be changed without changing engine RPM. When lots of thrust is needed, RPM is increased as well as blade pitch. Turning the thrusters allows to tug to pull from any angle.
Engine RPM selection. The 'throttles' control the fore/aft thrust direction/magnitude of the rotors, the wheel controls the side to side direction/magnitude of the thrust. The rotors are fixed (through a gearbox) to engine rotation. With this setup, you can have 'fine' controls for unloaded maneuvering, or 'high power' when pulling/pushing ships.
Leuke video.
Each lever makes the corresponding propeller thrust forward and backward. The wheel makes both propellers thrust left and right. The buttons control engine/propeller power.
@@dimievers5573 They're not pods. You're thinking of Z-drives, traditional propellers on a mount that rotates 360 degrees. This has Voith Schneider propellers, a cycloidal drive system. Like this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xGnOZF9YIe8.html
Hello Klaas, I can not put that in here (public place). I tried to send you a private message but there was no private message 'button' at your profile ;)
No disrespect i am cadet in merchant marine and our senior most master used to say tha that focus and study hard unless you wanna tug boat pilot then i don't know xD
