Fantastic! What an superbly written production. This really explored the depths of darker tones, and for TUGS, it really suits. It was carried out realistically and respectively too, so congratulations on finally releasing it! I really enjoyed it! Proves you don't need on-screen visuals to pull of an excellent story!
Five years of being delayed has been worth it in the end. I mean, this really blew me away. From the creative villain Typhoon to the battle of Typhoon's tricky verse actual truth, this has been one heck of a ride. Great job Jay Hedgehog & Loey Machan.
What a production, the background sounds were continuous, maintaining the illusion of being in the port, and origin story was very dramatic and tied the entire main story together quite well! I liked Captain Star's inclusion, and his full name suits him, being derived from his voice actor, its overlapping with another pop culture character is easy to disregard. It seems that an audio production is the only form of storytelling where he can be present in person but not go against the style of the TV Series. Well done, the production is of high quality in all departments, and I'm glad it was released, despite any delay it is commendable regardless!
This was well worth the wait. An impressive way of how it almost felt like an actual cinema story rather than an audio story. For me, when I heard about this five years ago, I thought this production of a story has grimed to a halt for good and had been permanently cancelled. As for the title "Storm Bringer", when I've seen the original trailer for this when it mentioned 'typhoon', I always thought it had something to do with a serious typhoon storm that caused chaos of damage and has returned from the past, to the period this story takes place in. But this had turned out better than I had imagined it would be. An outstanding effort in worth the development. Though I'll say right now that I doubt that there will be a sequel to this, because it may take another five years of effort to put together in writing and then in rec. But, like I said, this eventful and historical fan work of an audio story has turned out better. Well done Sodor Island Forum. Well done Vee Jay Hedgehog & Loey Machan. Well done to all. Five Gold Stars for a great master piece.
This was very well done. Honestly, this was the first time I ever heard of tugs. This audio not only got me invested with the story itself, but for the entire series. Binge watched the entire show within two days. If only it didn’t take that long to do so. Loved to see more of this show.
You know, this audio masterpiece got me thinking. If TUGS had survived as a longer series for what it is and for being so far ahead of it's time in what it stood for ending up much of a success as Thomas & Friends was when it first came out in the UK and the US, THIS is what I would believe to be the true end of the series should it come to an end if it had run for a couple more seasons following the 13-episode original.
Man this was amazing The expansion of the tugs characters and there backgrounds was amazing and the voice acting and sound effects I tip my hat to you all
After listening to the whole production, I gotta say that this was no doubt the biggest event and most wonderful audio production I've ever heard. Very impressed with all of the voice acting and the story was so fluid :) Well worth the wait.
I find it amazing that you managed to fit all of this in one day. This is by far the most epic I've ever seen of a TUGS production. Well done to all involved in Storm Bringer.
You know, this quite the long _TUGS_ story you've got here. I wish you can make more of them in future. If you ever need someone to voice Johnny Cuba, St. Bluenose or any original character, I hope you'll consider using me; I'm the guy who voiced Alfred in T1E2H3's series. Is it possible that Typhoon was working for a secret master? If so, then who? Not Hitler, Stalin, Hirohito or Mussolini. They weren't in power by then. It has to be someone with enough influence to infiltrate within the British navy, if not the whole British government. What if...? No, it can't be. Can it? #hailhydra Future ref, please keep the music at a bare minimum. I can barely hear the lines.
an excellent Audio story! very gripping and detailed, and you perform the characters well indeed! i especially like how Sunshine, of all the Stars, is the non-skeptic and the one who keeps his head in the face of Typhoons' deceit. most people would expect OJ or Ten Cents for that role, so it's nice to see Sunshine....shine XD. my only nitpicks would be to say that the Pennsylvania-class ships were Battleships, not battlecruisers, and they had only one Smokestack, not four. i would think you meant the Lexington-class Battlecruisers, based on the description and the time period of the series: www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship/images/cc-1-line2.gif these ships would have been in the testing phase around the time of this episode, had they been completed in their original form. that, and there really WAS a USS San Marcos in this period as well: it was the name given to the old USS Texas in 1911 so a new battleship could be given the name. Ironically, so to speak, the vessel ended it's days as a Target vessel for naval tests.
+Soundwave3591 Hi man - Loey Machan here. Really glad you enjoyed the episode. As regards your points, there actually was a class of four-stacker battlecruisers named the Pennsylvania-class. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennsylvania-class_cruiser Originally named for states, they were later renamed after cities to free up their original names for newer battleships, much in the manner you described. The USS San Marcos of Stormbringer was specifically inspired by the Pensylvannia-class cruiser USS San Diego (originally USS California), which sank in 1918 after striking a German mine off of Long Island. She went down in 28 minutes, fortunately with only the loss of six lives. That said, I was unaware that there was an actual USS San Marcos in existance at the time. Thanks for that tidbit :)
Hey Loey, thanks for your reply, and for the info. however, i think there's been a bit of a mix-up in ship classification: the Pennsylvania class Cruisers were vessels classified as "armored Cruisers" light, long-range vessels designed to operate independently and able to take on everything up to their weight class. they were some of the first vessels to reintroduce Side-armor in the face of rapid-fire guns. they were actually supplanted by battlecruiser designs around 1908. "Battlecruisers" are vessels like HMS Hood: large, fast ships armed with Battleship-caliber guns, with strong side armor but thin on deck armor. the Lexington-class I described were also vessels of this type, before being finished as aircraft carriers after the Washington Naval treaty of 1921. this same fate also befell a number of the Royal navy's battlecruisers, such as HMS Furious. I suppose my confusion came from the rough date the story is set and the described similarities in appearance between the two ship classes. in any case, thanks for your reply, and i look forward to any projects you might complete int he future.
+Soundwave3591 Interesting points, but these are things that can be overlooked in my opinion. After all in the world of tugs in the world of tugs there are 50 states even in the 1920s and there are terms like harbour switcher and naval tramper that could never exist in real life.
Bravo! I do hope Captain Star's questions are eventually answered. SPOLIERS: So was it Typhoon who caused the destruction of the San Marco, or did he simply turn a blind eye to it and let Hercules take the fall?
+Charles “Marine1337” Jordan III The militaristic march with whirling strings and brass? It's from Alan Silvestri's score for Judge Dredd - the cue is called 'Troops in the Streets'.
Not really no. At the time this was being made, we were winding down from doing fan productions anyway, and a lot of the voice talent has moved on to other things. One of those things that was fun at the time.
OK. So, given the reception that Tugs enjoyed in Japan and the writing, and the human elements, I can definitely see this as some kind of lost Model/Anime hybrid TV Special. If this was 5 minutes longer, perhaps some more stuff with Typhoon interacting with the other Stars, some more of the Z Stacks, maybe a bit more of of Bluenose, Grampus and Lily in there and it could easily've been a theatrical release with the same concept.
