You might want to look up the history of Tule Lake. It was the largest Japanese internment/POW camp from WW2 and the most controversial. Very sad part of our American history.
Also the Lava Beds was where Captain Jack and the other Modoc Indians hid out when they left the Klamath Reservation. They ended up bringing in the army to get the people put of Tulelake and the lava beds. It turned into a war, it was were Canby was killed. The area if very rich in history.
