However when I was a kid growing up with the Eisenhower administration an aberration like the 1% would have ignited overpowering public outrage. By 1980 corporate interests had managed to replace enough conservatives with neocons that the Gops were ripe for a takeover. The corporations ran an actor, gave him lines to read, got him elected and launched the Reagan Revolution which was essentially a radical redistribution of wealth that eventually gave us the 1% and finally the Citizens United decision that codified corporate ownership of government into the law of the land. The Duopoly became a wholly-owned subsidiary of the corporations, a single entity with two storefronts. The ruling class has every incentive to make you think it's all over for the people, but there are millions more of us than them and I for one don't think it was futile or pointless for Bernie, AOC and the Squad to run corporate-free and go to Washington. The Resistance isn't over, it's barely begun.

@@applejuice5635 there are various cases where leaders with similar policies and ideals to trump that have been elected yes but im more referring to the fact that Trump so obviously and blatantly lies in public on a daily basis, says things that are stupid and clearly not correct nor make any sense. Pretty much the rest of the world sees him as incompetent and an idiot. I travel a lot and have talked with locals from many varied countries about Trump and the only place I have found someone that doesn't think he is an idiot was actually in Russia, but the way he is presented there is very different than other countries (i.e. highly controlled media). Its not to say that other leaders like Bolsonaro in Brazil don't lie, and in fact Id go as far to say that all leaders lie regardless of their politics, I just don't think that I can envisage any other country that has free elections actually electing someone like Trump when he is so clearly incompetent, stupid, dishonest and out for himself only - it is so obvious to the rest of the world (and also to a large amount of americans) yet somehow your the political system in the US facilitates such a person getting in.

I liked Tulsi and I liked yang before he started to cave into the detach from reality part of the Democratic party, he was actually attacking the root of the problem in the US, and had some interesting ideas on how to address them. The mass elimination of entitlement programs and replacing it with a UBI to cut down on administrative bloat is brilliant. Public campaign finance, don't rely on ads, just a few debates and interviews on the local channels. That's what you need as a bare miniumum, the simplest way to reform Washington DC is to just vote for the candidate with the least amount of money.
I believe the US President should have military experience where it be by JROTC, ROTC, military brat and/or US Armed Forces of any branch. This should be mandatory because it shows that you are will to sacrifice yourself before your people before going into war. This would definitely end the military industrial complex agenda completely.
I can see why when this nation was founded we primarily had militias for security. When we first went into Iraq and Afghanistan I support at the wars. He knew, even at that time, that Americans might have their eyes glaze over and change the channel if he strung that many big words together. The point is that the Congress has ALWAYS been a large part of the problem(Lobbying). And the obvious, simple solution is to outlaw the practice, except under regulation and also close supervision. This will, of course, be vigorously opposed by the corporations, who don't want just an unfair advantage, but to mislead their competitors and make them go out of business. The fact that monopolies are bad for the consumer isn't even considered. First thing that's needed is laws making much of the standard tricks illegal - and that provide funding for the enforcement of these laws, and severe enough penalties to be effective deterrents. Of course, this is unlikely to ever happen with things the way that they are. The best way to get results is the one used by the Nazis, or on "Game of Thrones." The right wing might pay more attention if non-complying companies were nationalized; or if someone's head ended up on a pike on the Capitol steps. The Media can use a high colonic, too.
