Thanks for this helpful information. On my 21’ 2wd SR5 TRD SPORT package, are these going to be better than the red shocks they provide stock? And if I tow would you recommend doing the middle setting up front in order to keep just a little rake to not be sticking up in the front with a trailer?
Awesome little video! I’ll definitely check out your website. I’m planning on running the 5100’s with a ready lift 4/2. Glorified level kit I guess but at least my cv angles and control arms will be proper with that kit. It’s my daily/weekend warrior, not sure I’m ready to jump into the coil over setups just yet.
Looking to do 5100’s with coachbuilder +3” (1.75” actual lift) in the rear and the .50 shims up front to get the 3-1 lift. I shouldn’t need to worry about anything else right? Thanks!
If you get the Westcott Designs 5100 pre-load kit you can run these on the middle setting and still get the full 3” of lift. It’ll maintain a better ride too and no shims required.
No, when you get to 3" is when you should consider them but not needed. But when you go over 3" of lift then they are needed. SPCs are where it's at. Highly recommend!
I have a 2017 Tundra TRD 4wd with a 3” spacer lift already installed. I want to swap out the shocks only to 5100’s, but I keep reading that you have to purchase extra parts to use the factory coils. Is that true, or would these be plug and play right out of the box?
Yeah these are just shocks, they are not full struts. So you would have to get new springs and top hats if you want a plug and play option. But if you're going to DIY and don't want to mess with disassembling your factory coils and transferring them over then take them to any local shock shop and they can assemble them for you. Keep in mind these won't get you to a full 3" but you can use a shim to get you close to 3"
@@ApexOutdoorPower I have a spring compressor and all that, I just want to swap out the shocks and use my stock coils, and maybe get a couple shins to get back to 3”. Just want to make sure I don’t need bushings or top hats if I use the factory coils. Thanks.
Email me a pic of what you are talking about? Anthony@apexoff-road.com if you are talking about the rubber boot then I would take the boot off. Unless you drive down lots of dirt/gravel roads then the boot will cause more harm then good because it traps debris inside.
So if I do 5100 all around with the +2 coach build shackles... how would that run? Would I need a .25 spacers in the front to sort of level or if not give it a tiny rake in the front?
I just got a pair of 5100's for my 2002 Tundra Access Cab 4X4 and the paperwork that came with the struts says for the Access Cab model Tundra I cannot go over the #3 position 1.1" height adjustment, yet for the Crew Cab model they allow the #4 position 1.6" height adjustment. Why the difference? I was hoping to get a nearly level front with rear look.
