A summary of how I setup my Fastway E2 Weight Distribution Hitch with Sway Control, and Ride Rite Airbags to properly tow and redistribute weight with my 2018 Toyota Tundra Towing my Lance 2375 travel Trailer. Includes discussion of tire setup as well.

Pretty much the exact same setup I have for my 2018 Tundra Crew Max Limited 4wd. I have the same airbags and hitch too. Except, mine are the 1000lb bars. My camper is a 2021 Transcend 261BH. 31ft long and an unloaded weight of about 6440lbs.

I am similar on my 17 Sequoia. A 6500lb trailer (loaded) 4 kids and 2 adults in the vehicle. Factory air suspension and equalizer bars. It tows great. I know I am right at GVW. I have even done a few things on the trailer to lighten the tongue weight after I discovered it was nearly 1000lbs, with water. I moved the water tank right in front of the trailer axles, moved cargo to get all the heavy items directly over the axles. I will probably get a lithium iron phosphate battery and put it inside. So far super happy with the Sequoia. I have only had to change filters, fluids and brakes.

I’ve always tried to understand tire pressure on towing vs not. Why do the they print on the tire, max load range on the tire is X, max pressure is X. Wouldn’t the stock pressure be with the stock truck, an naturally add more pressure for more weight?
@kedrevs4037

heat from friction traveling down the road will increase internal tire pressure, but additional weight wouldn't significantly change the internal pressure. But it changes road contact pattern and wear by increasing friction, (i.e heat). That's why many increase rear pressure under significant load

Yes, always go with the manufacturer on air pressure. Just ask ford about that when they went against Firestone pressure settings and under inflated the tires on the explorer in which caused them to over heat and explode. I always go by the markings on the tires itself to get the correct pressure and not a sticker but good video anyway.

I had one of those Explorers from the late 90s/early 2000s. Fortunately, no rollover accidents after major tire blow out.

You have a truck max cargo capacity of 1185 lbs, your tongue weight has got to be 900 lbs. including the 80 lbs EQ hitch. that leaves you 285 lbs. assuming you weigh 200 lbs that leaves 85 pounds Do you drive alone with no cargo, your truck was engineered by professionals to not exceed that cargo limit. Airbags do nothing but make it look and ride a little better. Don’t use the airbags to raise the truck, use the trailers jack to raise the trailer to put on the bars. Too much trailer for that truck

see my vid on payload, show the truck hooked up, weight balanced, etc.

I was always taught airbags first. In theory if you do your airbags last you take all the weight off of the wdh. I do Airbags then hookup to trailer then use trailer jack to get wdh bars on. And away you go. Am I wrong?
@kedrevs4037
@kedrevs4037 Год назад
Nope, I think you are spot on. Sometimes I will overinflate to help load the WDH arms to the trailer, but then back off to my desired inflation point.

Have you tried the Timbren product as a suspension aid instead of airbags? I have them on my tow vehicle and am very happy with the result. Clearly neither the airbag nor the Timbren product adds any 'tow' or 'payload' capacity, but it does strengthen up the rear suspension. Properly set weight distribution hitch is still a necessity for good safe towing of a trailer that size. I like your set up. As far as lifting the back of the truck for bar installation, I find the hitch jack to work perfectly. As always, safe travels....

Great post. I haven't used the Timbren springs. Mostly because my Tundra is also my daily and I wanted to be able to remove the stiffness for daily driving.
@ShawnPatterson402
@ShawnPatterson402 Год назад
@@kedrevs4037 actually the Timbrens work great, as when unloaded they are unloaded as well and are at least 1.5" from the axle. When fully loaded with my camping gear then the squat has them "loaded all the time" which is perfect. Occasionally when unloaded they will hit, but overall it rides like it always did empty, and has a big improvement when towing. take care,

2 valves would have saved you from buying a sway bar for the rear. all loads are uneven when you are turning
@kedrevs4037
@kedrevs4037 Год назад
I use my truck for towing more than hauling. In order for WDH system to work correctly, you need some motion in the rear. Also, If one should fail going down the road when loaded, I want them both to fail. Two valves are good for hauling, but for towing, they are just a pain in the ass.

@@kedrevs4037 Oh I completely understand. i haul random weights and went with the single point air lift so I can change pressure from inside the truck, it did add some roll though.

So I have a question. Why does it say on the tire, Max weight at max pressure? Mine says 44 psi. I agree under normal conditions you would follow the factory pressure, but there’s no way on earth we’re supposed to leave them at stock pressure but loading a lot of weight in the back of the truck or a lot of tongue weight. Sorry but that defies all logic. According to your reasoning, you can’t go against the experts. You failed to mention, the experts that made the tire, and they say max weight only with max pressure. I’m enjoying your video anyway.

You’re doing it wrong… Your spring bars are also too light. You actually need 1000 lbs spring bars. Your tongue weight is closer to 900 lbs. Don’t use the air bags to lift the truck for placing the spring bars. Use the tongue jack instead. The primary reason is that you want the spring bars to do the most work, to actually transfer the weight back to the front axle. The air bags should be adjusted last, because they are truly only cosmetic. Yes… It makes a difference. You can try it yourself at a public truck scale.
@kedrevs4037
@kedrevs4037 Год назад
You are 100 percent incorrect. My tongue weight is 12%. Secondly, air bags are not “only cosmetic”. If you set the hitch, then inflate bags it takes pressure of the WDH. If you have air bags, you absolutely can inflate them and just lift the spring arms free. I use both the jack and the bags at different points in time. I understand what you are saying, but you are contradicting yourself.
