Great videos guys! Really been helping me getting back into karting after a while. Picked up an X4 but has a 40mm axle and 17mm front stubs. Is it worth me upgrading to a 50mm axle and 25mm front stubs?
@PowerRepublic
@PowerRepublic 3 месяца назад
not really. the cost is better spent on an upgrade chassis IMO. if you got a cheap one, use for a blast and some fun. then if you want to race get something worthy

Thanks Dezzy, Although I've been around karts a long time, my time off went from 30mm to 50mm axles, a lot changed. That helps explain why the kart I race in at Enduro's the drivers get very different feelings, I'm average height, the other 2 are over a foot taller then me, and the previous owner and drivers were my height or shorter, so the axle will be more suitable to me then them, or they just need to drive faster ;)
@PowerRepublic

Yeah boi, always drive faster is a great solution. Most the problems seem to disappear after that really

Morning... one thing ive always been told is only change 1 thing at a time. So either tyres, axel length OR hardness ect. That way you can figure out if the change actually helps before doing something else which would confuse things.
@PowerRepublic

morning Chris, yeah that correct if you haver the time and especially as you are learning. once you have a good knowledge base you can hit the kart with some combo's.

Are there any recommendations for the lower HP classes that makes differentation to the rules? I've heard so many say they run softer axles for the cadets/mini, but also read that many of the teams run stiff axles for the kids. What's your experience?

My son and I are just a few weeks into his karting hobby. It's quite a rabbit hole, eh? Hard, soft axle? Is that a reference to their degree of flex? Why would a hard one more likely be accompanied by softer tyres? Maybe this is all a bit premature. Probably concentrate on getting him around the track without spinning-out first. Appreciate the videos. Really informative.
@PowerRepublic
@PowerRepublic 8 месяцев назад
Very welcome. Yeah the most important thing you can do is get on the track. Most karts will go around the track in almost the exact time. It’s the drivers that make all the difference. Then when you are looking for the last few tenths, you can start the marathon of shelling out cash looking for the next little bit. It is a slow road.
@miky72x

hi, which axle CAN YOU suggest in order to avoid to have a jumping kart when the weather is hot and on the track is rubberized? The kart is a tony kart 401 R with an axle type N cutted at 1030mm and the engine is a Vortex Rok GP (clutch engine). I'm tall 1.80m and heavy 70 kg. thank you. Michele

Hi , great advice as ever 👍 what is the difference between narrowing the rear track width and switching to a narrower axel ? Cheers
@lucky55slevin75
@lucky55slevin75 8 дней назад
usually when you switch to a shorter axle you keep the SAME rear track width and results in less rear end grip and better front end turn in before Apex.....
@jamiewaelend9242
@jamiewaelend9242 2 года назад
Question on axle length for fast or slow corners; can you just increase/decrease the track width instead of a 1030 or 1000mm axle?? Will it have the same affect?
@PowerRepublic
@PowerRepublic 2 года назад
not sure 100% on that, but yeah, normally for fast flowing tracks I will run the wider rear hub settings.
@gregoryjones1826
@gregoryjones1826 Год назад
Great break down on the axle tuning. My question is sometimes axles will flex and become untrue. Sometimes due to an accident and sometimes maybe from repeated contact with running over huh curbs. Whatever the case, is there a out of round tolerance before it needs to be replaced?
@PowerRepublic
@PowerRepublic Год назад
less then 0.30mm run out and it shouldn't effect the kart too much. 0.30 - 1.0 mm is manageable but definitely the driver will experience vibrations. and more than 1.0mm and we have problems Houston

Hey Dezzy, my son is in a cadet kart, 4 stroke class. We're at max rear width (short hubs, right out) and minimum front width and his chassis is straight. He is currently running a 1000mm medium axle but still often 2-wheels in the tighter corners. Some folks have suggested trying a different (softer) axle to reduce the excessive jacking and 2 wheeling effects. Do you have any advice on this? Thanks!
@PowerRepublic
@PowerRepublic Год назад
Hey Dave, yeah you could that. also widen the front to give the kart a square foot print.
@bpadula100
@bpadula100 3 месяца назад

@PowerRepublic

yeah if you are on a Hard, go down to a N axle (one grade softer)

Derek hi! Quick question, I’ve always used Standard axles, if you go to a harder one or a softer one, does it really make that much of a difference? And Can you really feel the difference from a standard length axle to a shorter axle? Usually if the track has a lot of very tight corners then I just narrow the distance of the rear wheels, instead of 140cm I might narrow the distance to 138cm or maybe 136cm, wouldn’t that be the same as having a shorter axle? Thanks in advance 🙏
@PowerRepublic
@PowerRepublic 2 года назад
Hi PC, yeah the difference is small. And the standard N axle is great all rounder. but the H axle helps the bigger guys here locally that we work with. and soft axles I have gone too in the cooler months for sure to get the kart on sooner. so yeah, once you have some skills play around with 1 axle either side of standard for sure, especially if you have travelled interstate or to a new track. as too shortened axles v's rear track.....noit really. I haven't found much luck with super narrow rear track. the short axle is not my main go too, but can help sometimes. can you do me a favour? hit the track this weekend with the rear track at 1360mm standard length axle, then cut the axle down to 1000mm and move the wheels out to 1390 and let me know how it affects the kart for you?
@p.c.h.6721
@p.c.h.6721 2 года назад
@@PowerRepublic Thanks a lot for writing back Derek, I have a spare axle at home that I can experiment with, so I will do the experiment, I will cut the spare axle to 1000mm and then try with the wheels at 1390mm, I can’t wait to see how it feels, I always thought that whether the axle is a Long one or a Shorter one, if I kept the rear track at 1390-1400mm then nothing significant would change, but I’m probably wrong. I’ll let you know how it goes, thanks again 👍

Conceptually....the soft axle has less grip and allows the kart to slide better? And the hard shaft has more grip and allows the kart to slide less and grip more?
@PowerRepublic

not really for me. hard axles we use mostly in the summer and softer in the winter, as a general rule. where you racing at gonsilver?

Why would the length of the axle matter? wouldn't it be the distance between the hubs you want to be concerned with. When you shorten or widen wheel base will be the distance your focus should be on. The length of the Alex behind those points won't matter. What am I missing.
@PowerRepublic
@PowerRepublic Год назад
Hey mark, yeah that is normally correct. have you ever tried the short v's standard length axle on track? small difference only, but it is a good tuning tool to use if it suits your style. Most important thing over all the changes....drive fast and the rest will take care of itself
@MrMarvin444

@bernardplanko6780
@bernardplanko6780 Год назад
think if you use same hubs, same width, what changed? The area on which the hub grabs to the axle, its like if you would grab with your whole hand or only with fingers. And by a shorter axle you somehow change the initial hardness of the axle, because of the deformatiion of the contact point between axle and hub.. Try it
@MrMarvin444
