One of the things i had to call customer service about is whether or not i had to update it prior to installing on my 2007 Hemi Ram and the answer is no. It comes pre-packaged with useable tunes for your particular make and model. Only later did i update and found a few features that weren't in the original programming before. Speed limiter delete and individual gearing was added as well as Rev limiter etc. I returned it to stock for awhile and found it basically undriveable. The Dodge Ram MDS delete option is what makes this tuner shine imo.

Mike, Everything you said sounds good, but you said, "I returned it to stock . . . " What is that about, it didn't run good, or you just preferred the way it ran with the tune? That doesn't sound good at all. I'm with you on features, sometimes its just one thing that you need, that makes the tool. I appreciate the comment. - Stiles

@@flo-grownplumber6 Yep, you have to be careful, if you use an OEM Dealer to work on your truck, they can update the program without telling you and screw up your performance tune. Good call on that! - Stiles

Rich, I'd make sure my Throttle Body is freshly clean and I would talk to Super Chips (see link below). Their Website has changed, I believe, but in the past they have been very helpful. - Stiles www.holley.com/support/tuners/superchips/

Wanting to get this for my 08 F250 Superduty 5.4L. Do you think this is worth and will work for my truck? This will be my first tuning device purchase and really don’t wanna spend all my money for it not to work ya know

Tyler, Yes, I think it is worth it, I had (and miss) a 2003 F-250 Diesel that the tuner made a significant difference on. On the F-150 5.4L not as much, but still noticeable. Go to the Super Chips Website and have a look. superchips.com Let me know how it goes! - Stiles

Hey man I’ve got a question about my 14 f250 with the 6.2L gasser. The original owner of the truck was some DOT commercial license company the the second owner used it as a fleet vehicle and so on until I got it. So the idol is nothing like any other stock 6.2L I’ve heard and I work with nothing but fords so I hear them often enough to know the idol sure doesn’t sound like the other trucks do in any way at idol or revving. The only way to explain the idol is that it whomp whomp whomp not the steady stock sound. I also notice a major difference in the way my truck shifts compared to the other 6.2s. Is there any way to tell if it’s got a cam or a tune. I’m sure it’s got a min of a tune but people ask me what cam I installed. If there is a aftermarket cam it’s a smaller one that’s not real radical. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks man.

Frank, Most likely a tune, but why and by who? If the Truck had a Cam installed you could probably tell on the Engine, you could see the Engine work. New or different gasket color? Did any paperwork come with the Truck? If you do think it has a different tune, I'd talk to Super Chips and see if they could help you. - Stiles

Is there more tutorials by superchips? I have the Impala SS and the only option I have is stock or performance. No tow or lower octane. Only 92 octane performance with options.

J, I don't know of one for the Impala SS. I don't work for Super Chips, but know that they are a good company. I'd go to their website, send an email or call them. They might do something like program a Tuner just for you, or have you buy a Tuner for a Chevy Truck, I don't know. Talk to them! Let me know how it goes! - Stiles

Kamryn, Be careful, to change the individual programmer to a different vehicle you have to re-program the vehicle back to stock. Froggy, They have an economy mode? Yep, you have to reconnect to the truck and reprogram the truck back to stock configuration. You can select "Stock" on the menu with all of the performance levels. Then you can keep the programmer and re-program a different truck. - Stiles

Any idea why mine can’t detect that my ignition is on? I turn it on and press ok and it then asks if my ignition is on and it says press ok for yes and it doesn’t even do anything once I press ok

Do you gutta leave it plugged in to you’re vehicle once you’re done running it or can u unplug it

Nope, you don't leave it plugged in. The Tuner downloads the stock program to save it and then uploads the new (user selected) performance program into the PCM (Powertrain Control Module), when the Tuner says it is complete you unplug it. If you want to change the tune (or program) you plug the Tuner back in and redo the process. Or if you want to read & clear OBDII Fault Codes, you plug the Tuner in to do so. - Stiles

I’m looking to purchase one of these tuners for an 08 explorer with the 4.0 engine. Do you think this tuner is worth it? I’m just looking to get some more power out of the 4.0 and possibly better mpg but I didn’t know if this was the right way to do it. Also say I were to install the performance tune with 93 octane, do you have an estimate of the power increase I can see? Anything helps thankyou.

I'd start your research with the SuperChips website, this is the page for your 2008 4.0 L, looks like the F5 Ford FlashPAQ - 1845 works for the 4.0L - - superchips.com/shop/v/ford/explorer/2008/4-0l/ I recommend the SuperChips or I wouldn't have done the video, I'm not paid by anyone for the creation of the video. For the vehicles I have used it on this Tuner changes the performance for noticeable improvement. On my previously owned 2003 F-250 7.3L Diesel, SuperChips claimed 75 hp (not sure exact number) but it was noticeable. You can ask a question on the SuperChip site, ask them about your application. You need to swap in a pushrod 5.0L when that 4.0L get tired. Let me know how it goes! - Stiles

E, You could try to upload an update form the Super Chip Website, I talk about this in the video. You plug the Tuner into a USB Port on your computer and update your Tuner Software. Super Chips has a Hand Held Programmer for most Cars and Light Trucks, but NOT your 3.5L V6 in the 2007 Charger. Super Chips does have an "IN-CABIN PROGRAMMER & MONITOR" which looks very cool. Jackyl, I don't believe you can set the shift points, at least on this Ford FlashPaq. The shift points do change with the different performance levels. - Stiles

Yes, I think so, if you need to adjust your speedometer due to Gear or Tire change from stock OEM size, or if you want to change the performance / shifting of your vehicle, or if you need a OBDII reader (you can get a cheap one, for around $40 and this is expensive), this SuperChips Tuner is very good. - Stiles

Robert, I'm not sure what you mean. the Tuner is plugged into the OBDII port and powered by the port. You can unplug it anytime, except when you are programming, the tuner says it is loading the program. Did this answer your question? - Stiles

@@robertrobinette445 Oh yes the tuner reprograms your Vehicle Computer (PCM) and the new (selected by you) tune stays in the vehicle until you reprogram it again. You leave the tuner plugged it until the download is complete, then you remove it. I keep mine in the F-150 Center Console in the event I need to read OBDII Fault Codes, it makes a great code reader (and resets codes). - Stiles

Short answer is no. Nobody makes tuners for our trucks (specifically for 88-95, since they are OBDI and these tuners are for OBDII vehicles. Likewise, the OBS platform and computer system does not support any tuner from 88-2000. Only NBS and newer. Black Bear Performance tuning can burn a tune onto an ECM that you can buy or you can send them yours to have tuned, but even still I believe they are only 96 and newer. Send them an email or call to see. They do great work and tuned the ECM on my 99 Yukon.
