Transcript excerpt:
Although Tunisia has been making wine for thousands of years, the quality revolution only really started in the 19th and 20th centuries during the French occupation when modern winemaking techniques were introduced.
Tunisia’s warm, sunny climate means that grapes have no trouble ripening which gives the red wines lots of colour, fruity aromas and higher sugar levels which means they can be rather generous in alcohol.
The red wines can pack such a punch that rumour has it the French used to blend Tunisian Syrah into their own. What is for certain though, is that Tunisia's Syrah, Carignan and Touriga Nacional perform particularly well making voluptous, aromatic wines, that pair nicely with flavourful Tunisian dishes like roasted lamb and couscous. On the lighter spectrum, over 65% of Tunisia's wine production is rosé which range from fuller bodied wines to light and delicate. They also make a small amount of aromatic white wines which benefit from being in regions closer to the ocean breeze. Despite its long history, Tunisia's wine industry still feels in its infancy which much potential as of yet unexplored. This is because during centuries of Arabic rule Tunisia went almost completely dry.

Hi , may i add another point that the world seems to believe is about the constitution. at 1.25 i heard seeing them write their constitution well we had a democracy before as for a constitution. Bourguiba at the independance of Tunisia have done so much for womans rights and created a democracy and a constitution. otherwise i loved the documentary and you seemed enjoying my beautiful country xx

It's a good documentation. But one small thing, you kept referring to revolution as if it librated people from Religion. Actually, it's not the case, maybe in other countries but in Tunisia before the revolution the two feared things and kind of unallowed to discuss are Politics and religion ! Authorities used to keep an eye on the least religious people (weird, right !? xD ) But after revolution people got finally to choose whether they are, religious or any sort of citizen.
@AmandaBarnesWine
@AmandaBarnesWine 6 лет назад
Thank you for watching our documentary! I didn't mean to suggest the revolution changed people's religious beliefs in any way. I don't think that is the case. What I understood, and wanted to communicate, is that the revolution allowed people more freedom of speech and expression. Would you agree? I am sorry if my dialogue is confusing! And thank you for sharing the documentary :)

The Squeeze & 80 Harvests by Amanda Barnes I truly thank you for your response to achraf who is unfortunately agenda driven & I am sure that from your experience in Tunisia religion did not interfere with your stay or even was a problem or an issue the Tunisians even proud of their heritage and religion do not act in a non open & civilised manners and loving ways to anyone who visits their beautiful country regardless of their convictions in live. Thanks again and forgive my lengthy message. Love & peace from a Muslim Tunisian & civilised in his relationship with others of all work's of life.

No, no, no... a Berber is not a shepard... thats more Beduine.... a Berber also called Amazigh are the original people of north Africa. They have there own language and are not considered being Arabs. The Arabs invaided North Africa in the 600´s AD and brought with them Islam. Berbers where Jews and Pagans before the invaision.
@AmandaBarnesWine
@AmandaBarnesWine 6 лет назад
Thank you so much for sharing. I would love to learn more about the Berber culture, chef Mounir explained a bit to me over dinner but there is still much to learn!
@zied8910
@zied8910 6 лет назад
darkswede1 In Tunisia people consider themselves as Amazigh, Cathaginian and Arabs in the same time. Some of us still know how to speak amazigh language and very few people learned Carthaginian language and all of us speak arabic now and we don't see any contradiction in that. We don't consider ourselves invaded by arabs because as i said we are arabs and amazigh and Phynicien. Nowadays we are part of the arabic culture which is a very large cosmopolite culture containing influences of a large number of other cultures. Proud to be all of that.

Berber Was never Jews dont lie haha , berbers was praying to stars and moon and the heaven above ... it was the time of "jahilia" untill the arabs came and arabirized us , and brought islam. Malta and Tunisia was one empire once and the jews was very very few like 100 people or so and was living south.

I know this is old. But I wanted to add more infos about wine. Although the informations are correct, there is one more spot taht isn't covered by this video which is Mornag. Mornag is the second largest wine production sites in Tunisia. From hitorical point, it was prepared by romans using waters from Zaghouan. The french had evolved it to a more modern wine production. It is isn't the best, I know, but worth the shot.

Judging from the video the wine was not up to par as you say , but I am affraid you didnt taste the best wines of the country as I see , we have very good red wine , a lesser quality rosé and a poor quality white wine and it depends which ones you have tasted since I didnt see a conclusion in this video and I expect a result in your inquiry after the 80 harvests and hope to see us up there with the rest of the producers , otherwise it was a nice and refreshing video with a lot a lot of enthusiasm thanks for the effort put in it .

@@AmandaBarnesWine To visit the Sahara, you should go in the winter because it's pretty hot in the summer there in the south.

Thank you. But Tunisia is so much more. Wime districts are spread widely and the wine quality is becoming quite superb recently. I hope you enjoyed yourself. You're welcome to enjoy more of our wine and incredible cuisine which sadly is not famous althought it's incredibly delicious. Tunisia is on the verge of becoming famous for it's cuisine thanks to the like of you and other tourists visiting Tunisia.

Thanks Peder - I am sure there is much more to discover! This was just our experience within the week - I don't think we could have fit much more in, but it is certainly a good excuse to return :) I hope to return one day soon to discover more of the delicious cuisine and wines, and learn more about the destinations and culture. Cheers!

Fun fact: Tunisia ranks first in alcohol consumption in the Arab World: The Tunisian citizen drinks twice as much as the German one (according to WHO). Btw Tunisia is on its way to become a secular country. People can embrace any religion or belief, choose whether or not to drink alcohol ... Have a good day!

Religious freedom has a long history in Tunisia. Muslims, christians and jews coesxisted for a long time. Jews fled to Tunisia and to many other countries after the spanish reconquista to find more freedom and acceptance and to avoid persecution. And this has nothing to do with becoming a secular state. After the establishment of a turkish secular state by ataturk the population has witnessed a considerable amount of religious persecution, and this is the case in Albania as well. It is mostly about culture and peoples mentality.

that is not true .Tunisia is ranked behind turkey and even sudan and between Tonga and qatar.The tunisian citizen consumes 1/10 of what a german does.Get your facts right and stop spreading lies.
