So glad that Tunisian is becoming more popular. I knit and crochet (though in general I prefer crochet) and really want to learn Tunisian and start mixing knit and crochet in one work. I treated myself to the Chiaogoo interchangeable needles and have my eye on the interchangeable hooks because they use the same cords and would be easier to switch between than “fixed” hooks. Love how versatile interchangeable sets are and that quality supplies cost a bit more initially but last a lifetime baring tragedy. Side note, for all beginners please spend the extra buck or two for metal or wood tools, acrylic breaks way too easily and will cause you a headache

This is a great tutorial. I taught myself how to do basic tunisian in high school 40 yrs ago and just found a lovely scarf pattern to make. I have a stitch dictionary that has 4 pages of tunisian stitches but I still needed to see it done. The dictionary has photos showing what are probably the basic stitches and then wording for more complicated? stitches; so, watching this helped a lot. You also answered several questions I had with regular crochet like coming to the end of a row: do you crochet a stitch and how do you know where to place it. This will make my pieces straighter now and not irregular on the edges. The Color Shift Tunisian Scarf is the pattern I'm working on. It is by Amy Minard which can be found on Ravelry. Thank you for this great tutorial. I'm saving it to come back to learn the stitches that are not in the scarf pattern.

Thank you for your time. I learned a lot. My favorite stitch, I think, is the Pearl stitch. I loved the look of all of the different stitches, but I had a hard time with the top loop stitch. Is there a way to make the stitches with more horizontal stretch, like for a sock or hat? When I started, I used a stitch marker on the last stitch after I did my chain One to help me find the Last stitch of each row.
@ModeBespoke
@ModeBespoke 2 года назад
Yes, you can make it stretchy by using an extended return pass. I have a video on it, and I’ll link it below. But it might change the look of your stitch (it makes some stitches nicer, and others not so much). What a great idea!! I love it! @ModeBespoke
@ModeBespoke 2 года назад
You don’t turn in Tunisian crochet, you crochet a return pass. So you basically chain and remove stitches off the hook until you are back at the beginning. 🤔 that might not have made too much sense, but I’ll link a simple pattern below which might clear up any confusion. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0XtXfPE43VI.html

If I want to make longer foundation stitch, does it mean I have to use longer crochet hook?
@ModeBespoke

Yes, you’ll need a Tunisian Crochet hook. You can use a regular hook to practice small swatches, but you won’t be able to fit too many stitches on it and make larger projects.

@ModeBespoke
@ModeBespoke 2 года назад
The last stitch has three legs: 2 on the far left (at the end of the row), and one just before the end of the row. Insert your hook between the three legs so that you have the two end legs on one side of the hook, and the single leg on the other. Not sure if that helps, but you can always watch one of the other Tunisian patterns on my channel and see if you can spot the three legs at the end of the row. I’d try watching the knit stitch scarf video (I’m fairly certain I worked through that pattern slowly, as it’s a beginner pattern). * Full stitch is not the knit stitch, It is similar to a stitch that I don't know the name of at the moment I forgot, but it looks like how twill or denim weave looks like a sideways brick stack. Tunisian knit stitch is In fact The 1 that looks like a typical sweater or the Jersey knit of your t-shirt. That's The 1 that also makes a very thick fabric.

I'm just learning this stitch, WHY does my project keep CURLING UP????? Is my tension perhaps to right? Is this normal.??? I'm doing a scarf, so 28 stitches. Should be pretty easy. But it's curling.
@ModeBespoke
@ModeBespoke 5 месяцев назад
Yup, it’s normal. Some of it can be reduced by loosening up your tension, but a lot of it has to do with the construction on the stitch. Let’s say you’re crocheting a simple stitch, which uses just the front leg of the stitch, then all of the tension centers around that front leg; which then results in curling. To alleviate some of that, you can try: -Loosening your tension -using a larger hook than what your yarn label recommends -crochet your scarf, then at the end, add a row or two of single crochet as a border to weigh the fabric down. I’m sure there are other solutions out there, those are simply the 3 I go to. Not all stitches curl, and you’ll find which ones work best for you as you continue to try more of them.
@dollymadan6830
@dollymadan6830 5 месяцев назад
Whenever I do Tunisian stich it folds frm down. It curls.
@ModeBespoke
@ModeBespoke 5 месяцев назад
Some stitches will do that (but fortunately not all of them). The simple stitch tends to curl because you are solely crocheting into the front leg of the stitch. So the construction of the stitch will affect whether a fabric will curl or not. A few things you can try that can help, are: -Using a larger hook -loosening your tension

I wonder why no one that is doing tutorials is starting with the TSC, the Tunisian Single Crochet… This stitch takes place as row 1a’s start right after you chain your length. The picking up of loops is NOT CALLED CASTING ON. It is called a Tunisian single crochet across the chain. I feel like if you are going to teach it, do it right from the beginning 🤷🏽‍♀️ If someone goes and finds a TC pattern, they will have to have the knowledge of READING THAT PATTERN. Example and true: The Crafty Crochetier has what she calls a “tutorial “ for her Carisma Shawl, it is TC. She starts off with a ch 3 and says “ skip the first chain and PULL UP A LOOP IN EACH OF THE NEXT TWO” That is okay, except she isn’t really doing a tutorial, she is making a tiny swatch. No measurements no row counting nothing that a tutorial should have. So to make this shawl I am FORCED to buy her pattern! In said pattern I bought, she says “ Make a ch of 3 skip the first ch. TSC in the remaining two stitches….” Me: WHAT IS TSC? 🧐🤨🤷🏽‍♀️ we need to use the right terms so pattern reading is consistent across the board. Just my 1 cent
@ModeBespoke
@ModeBespoke 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for sharing :) Well, why don’t you create a tutorial? That’s what most of us (that teach online) did. We saw a need, and decided to do something about it. Also, have you considered leaving this feedback on Crafty Crocheter’s tutorial?
