Great rendition of this story. Living in Southern Oregon and being a rail buff, I have heard this story many times. I always heard the last name pronounced Dee- ought- remont. I also remember reading that since the railroad tracks were close to Oregon State Penitentiary and the brothers had killed railroad employees, engineers were always very generous with the whistle and horn when passing by, day or night. Needless to say the brothers weren't too popular with their fellow inmates.

The ending was a bit abrupt but I thoroughly enjoyed. I love how you always add in your little bit of sarcasm while still remaining composed and professional (he heard through a hobo camp bla bla bla “oh there’s a real reliable source of information” 😆😆😆

All I can think about hearing this is how their poor mother must have felt. Also, it actually hurt to hear that Roy, so well educated and with such a good job left everything behind to go plan a heist with his brother.

I live in Mount Shasta and have walked tunnel 13 many times. My grandfather used to take the SP steam engines over the Ashland pass and talks about running the cows out of the tunnel in each direction! Pretty cool that you are making the local history available to other people! Thanks. Not many people know about the last train robbery in America right here in the Siskiyou mountains.

I've been in tunnel 13 and the surrounding area. I actually had my flashlight die while a few friends and I were in there (we went in at night). We made our way back out, and my light was suddenly working again... We also heard a lot of weird noises... it was pretty spooky but still really cool and fun.

I've been told by locals in Coos Bay Oregon, that went to the high school there, state there are huge doors there at the high school that lead into a labyrinth of tunnels leading into the "Bunker Hill" area. I was told this by a guy that stated he and some friends made their way into the opening and got frightened and left. He stated that it was so vast that they were afraid of getting lost.

I was born and raised in beautiful Ashland. I’ve never been through the tunnels, but Ashland’s former train district has some of the oldest homes and buildings…very interesting to walk through that area. Congratulations on your content!

This was really interesting! Thank you. I spent many years living in Vancouver, Washington. I've even taken the train from there a couple of times. Depending on where you're going, the view of forests, cliffs and mountains all around is really gorgeous by train.

Literally all I knew about Ashland before this was that it had an epic Shakespeare festival. In college, I literally roadtripped 1500 miles to catch a few shows. I don't remember if I ever took a tunnel while I was there lol

I'd love to see an episode on my hometown Black River Falls, Wisconsin. From 1890 to 1910 there was a lot of mysterious deaths, sickness, suicides etc. There's a movie or book titles The Wisconsin Death Trap even. Happy to support your new channel. You do great work!

Southern Pacific doesn’t run passenger trains through Ashland anymore. Goes through Klamath Falls. And the Star Light Express, that runs from Portland to LA, stops in Emeryville, not San Francisco, but there’s a bus that will take you from the Depot in Emeryville to San Francisco
