In one comic Scrooge remarks that he holds onto his vast fortune not because he's greedy but because every penny represents a story in his life. An adventure. Scrooge left Scottland destitute seeking adventure and wealth and he achieved both a hundred times over. But what he found was the wisdom to give his life meaning by fostering the same sense of adventure in his sister's son and Grandsons. Scrooge isn't a greedy one dimensional character by any means, but he's surprisingly got a lot of depth. Truly the last tycoon.

For those who may not be aware, there is an extra story also written by Don Rosa where Scrooge receives a warning about a glacier in the Yukon where his sled became stuck in the ice decades before. That section of the glacier is about to collapse (in present day) and he immediately travels there with Donald and his nephews, and while they all think he's after some gold that was left in the sled, it turns out he's after a box of chocolates that he wanted to give to Glittering Goldie back in the day. And he does.

It should be noted that the Scrooge of Don Rosa's comics is NOT the parody that came from Ducktales animations. He's a much deeper character. Yes, still flawed but not the single track type you think. Recall the song, it wasn't the gold so much as the finding it (the work and adventure of doing that) and in the books it is the memories gotten while finding it, Scrooge remembers the story of all his treasures. Tuomas puts it in Lifetime Of Adventure "To be rich is, To still remember, To Treasure your first dime, To have a chance to say farewell." You should find the box-set of the Books Tuomas used and read them.

I think the message of the song is more like yes, Scrooge is greedy but he´s also out there hunting gold for the adventure of it and he´s also drawn to the beauty of the wilderness but that´s just my interpretation. Anyway it´s an absolutely gorgeous song and Johanna´s voice is like the sound of a rippling little stream in the forest, so crisp and clear and soothing.

According to interviews with Tuomas too. Scrooge never thinks what he might be able to buy with the gold. He never spends it unless he has to. He seeks it for the adventures and memories themselves. Jen kind of got it all backwards, but that's ok, lol. In the frame with the thought bubbles, those are the memories.

I have to push back a bit... Scrooge was all about adventures and money/treasures were just a bonus or a trophy. Yes, he liked gold but every coin is like a memory to him. That's why he loves his money. As he says in the beginning of the song: "Yet it isn't the gold that I'm wanting so much as just finding the gold!" However, it depends on a story... ;)

"Fortuna favet fortibus" - from the Latin, "Fortune favors the bold". According to Don Rosa, that Latin phrase is the epitaph on Scrooge McDuck's headstone.

Tuomas has a strong addiction to Disney ducks and specially Scrooge. Well...Scrooge may be a bit selfish and mainly wants gold but the character is much more...like making his own fortune by hard work and effort instead of just being lazy. Scrooge has feelings too...he is a fantastic comic character and there fore Tuomas likes him (not because his gold). Check also videos with Don Rosa and Tuomas. In one of them Tuomas explains who he admired Don as a teenager and his work and finally wanted him to join the music videos and songs made by Tuomas.

One of main things in Tuomas’s and Alexi Laiho’s frienship was hanging around on the countryside and reading Don Rosas Scrooge McDuck-stories 😂🤘 maybe much more also but that was one of the things they always mentioned ❤️

Tuomas is a big fan of Disney, especially the Scrooge McDuck comics by Don Rosa, with whom he made friends. P.S. Really enjoyed your Ayreon live stream. P.S.S. Funny enough, I'm just now getting to this reaction, lol. But I'm going to put some things into perspective for people that I hope enriches the tale of the McDuck family lore. First, Scrooge was born in Scotland in 1877. Then sometime in the 1890s, he went to the Klondike, in the Yukon, to hunt his fortune. As most know, he was wildly successful. What people _don't_ know is that Donald Duck is actually his nephew, and that the triplets, Huey, Dewey, and Louie, are his great-nephews, the sons of Daisy and Donald. Donald, by the way, fought in the US Navy during World War II, which is why he wears the Navy blue uniform top. Having said all this, Scrooge, according to Don Rosa, died in 1967 -- at 90 years old. Cantankerous was he, but he loved his family. Given this, Donald would now also be approaching the same age as his uncle, given the ages of World War II vets that are still alive. Huey, Dewey, and Louie would all be at least in their 60s, maybe 70s -- and they are now old ducks as well. I just hope that a comic writer out there takes up the mantle of the McDuck saga, and keeps writing the story at some point.

I think you got pretty close to Scrooge’s character arc in the comic. He spends decades trying to become the richest duck in the world, but by the time he fulfills his dreams, his fans have all left him because of his douchy behavior. It’s only years later, when he reconnects with the relatives he has left, that he truly becomes happy again.

Huey, Dewey, and Louie are Donald's nephews not Scrooges. Donald it the nephew of Scrooge alongside of Gladstone Gander. And the Don rosas uncle scrooge tells the tale of scrooges youth and life. Ducktales came far more later than Don Rosas scrooge stories. I remember have those donald duck comics from early 80's and there was Don Rosas Uncle scrooge comics included.

Scrooge McDuck is currently the richest ever fictitious character ($65.4 billion), just ahead of Smaug the dragon from The Hobbit ($54.1 billion). He used to be 2nd behind Santa Claus, but everyone knows he's real😉

I rarely comment but I remember leaving one when you listened to A Lifetime of Adventure which was what, maybe a year ago now? I enjoy keeping up with you and your channel, your outlook on life is very healthy. This album is so important to me, Don Rosa has been a personal hero of mine for like 30 years and having met him on a few occasions I completely relate to Tuoma's pure happiness in those pictures. Even as someone who's not kept up with Nightwish in recent years it makes me sad that people "abuse" the band for clicks and fake attention when they clearly mean so much to so many people, as much as this album truly means to myself. The best album Tuomas written...I get chills. A fantastic collaboration with Don Rosa too. I dont know if non Disney fans can enjoy this as much as I do? Get the album "The Life and Times of Scrooge! "I have both CD and the gold colored LP...nr 077/100

I just had enough of that greedy stuff, got me even sick (in b2n selling). Now I'm moving to my parents, they are 80+ I want to pay back somehow even though I have no idea about the income etc. We need some ♥️ in this crazy world. It interesting Tuomas met Don Rosa and told him he was going to mKe a soundtrack to his work. Don didn't believe him. 4 yes later he received a demo and wept at its beauty. He didn't expect it coming from a metal musician.

There's nothing pathetic about Scrooge McDucks life- it's just pathetic- that only one in a million people live half the life of Scrooge McDuck. Scrooge is a family man- Saves his family from destruction. As a penniless boy, he goes to America in search of his happiness, which has eluded him for decades - after going around the world twice, he finally finds the foundation of his wealth in White agony Greek - Goose egg nugget - follows forever. The memories, the friendships he made on his journey will be with him forever - and finally he returned home - where he was no longer accepted. So he traveled to Duckburk in America and set up his tank there, where he kept his possessions, because everything he got was also a memory and the memory was always more important than the value itself. Such an incredible life is Scrooges life... and eventually the nephew and nephews filled the place of the family... and the story just goes on and on.

You talk about speading happiness and it made me think about the only (more or less) band I played for a long time! I read many comments both here and on facebook, what Lovebites meant to some people. Until now, with Mihos tragical farewell, they have brought constant hope and smiles. Unfortunately to a way too small audience. Nightwish is huge and Lovebites "unknown"...life is unfair. I loved Nighwish back in the Tarja days, but I lost interest more and more. Lovebites straight forward metal, is much more fun ;)
