Welcome to another fabulous Ruler of the Month! Each month, I'll be sharing a new fun ruler with you, as well as a quilt that you can make with the ruler! The first month that the project is up, the pattern will be free. Once the next month's pattern and video are posted, the previous pattern will get moved into my pattern shop for you to purchase. I feel like I can just cut and chain piece a four patch quicker without the ruler. 😬

Maybe? The ruler is a handy tool for anyone not as comfortable with their 1/4 seam allowance. Especially for the teeny-tiny 4 patches. The great thing about quilting is that there is often more than one "right" way, so we can choose what works best for us. 🥰

Doesn’t this miss the point of making many four patches in a row? You only made two and then you have to start over.

There is no need to trust you if you. simply explain how you are calculating the yardage needed. You skipped that part, merely pointing to lines on the mat without explaining why you are pointing to them.

I'm confused ... this ruler isn't really for using yardage. You can, but it really shines when using scraps.

@@CarolinaMoore By yardage, I mean fabric. Also when you said you were cutting the edges to make it easier to sew, it appeared you were actually measuring something.

@@twinstar9 I promise, there is no "ruler conspiracy" going on here. Because this video is from 9 months ago, I had to go back and watch it to see what you were referencing. When I pointed to the lines, I explained what I was pointing to. 1. Line up the indicated line with a line on the mat. 2. See how wide that is. 3. Double it, then add 1/2" to determine the width you need for your starting strip. When I trimmed off the ends, I was lining up the line with the seam in the middle to make sure my end was square. I do my best to share this information free on RU-vid. I'm a pro quilter and amateur filmmaker, and when doing these videos I'm juggling both those skills at once. And I'm doing it while trying to keep the dialog easy-going and pleasant, which is why I say things like "trust me." Because some people are very nervous about the math/numbers part of quilting. Having a reassuring voice can help. (I also say "you got this!" In some of my videos. Which you could argue is equally not needed since I don't know every person watching and so how could I possibly know if they've "got it" or not? But, again, sometimes that friendly supportive voice is what is needed, and I'm happy to offer it).
