Kind of disappointed the Turbo Everdrive Pro doesn’t work on the TurboDuo especially since mine has recently had a full cap replacement and it’s just a sleek design with no need for a TurboBooster for AV. Would have reduced wear and tear on my CD drive & laser too
That is the penalty for having a CD rom unit with over priced games. Oh well at the end of the day at least you can say, I have original hardware!.. (Perhaps there might be a firmware update where you can play it on there hopefully) I wanted the TURBOGRAFX-16 because it just looks awesome.
Thanks for the review! I’ve been thinking about picking this up for my turbo express. I dig the chill vibes, and I appreciate how thorough you reviewed the everdrive. If I had one nitpick, it’s that the autofocus in your closeup shots is really jarring, the intro/unboxing section was tough to watch and the physical features you were referring to were out of focus a good portion of the time.
Thank you for the constructive feedback, and I agree. Hoping to get the focus working better in the next video I do. Might just go with manual instead.
Hi!. I am really interested in buying one, but I have a few doubts that I hope you can answer. Do you know if the audio output is in stereo when the Turbo Everdrive Pro is connected to a Supergrafx console or a standard PC Engine with an AV Booster?. And do you think that there is a posibility that they add save states for the CD games in some future firmware upgrade?. Excuse me for my limited english. Thanks in advance.
From what krikzz (the creator) has posted on twitter and in the Pro manual, a special piece of hardware needs to be used for stereo sound for CD games. I think I might have an AV booster and can try that in another video. I think krikzz also mentioned that save states won't be possible with CD games. I don't know if that'll change or not.
I wonder if it would be possible to combine a Turbo Everdrive Pro with a Super HD System 3 Pro to get the benefits of both. Cheat and save state support from the ED and HDMI output with SuperGrafx game support from the other. I know it would be a colossal waste of money and that there’s a lot of overlap functionality wise but I’m still curious if it could be done.
lol I don't have the Super HD System 3 to test, but from what I've read I think the functionality of loading HuCards/Turbo Chips, save states and cheats should work. I don't believe CD loading from the Turbo EverDrive Pro would work though. At that point though I'd say it's probably cheaper to get a MiSTer instead ^^
So does the audio being out of synch happen for all CD games, or only for Rondo of Blood? Have you tried using the No-Intro dump of it to see if the issue persists?
It occurred in other games I tried, like Cosmic Fantasy 2 and Valis III. If I get some time I might try to put together a video showing the issue in these games and some others. Unless I looked in the wrong place, the official site for No Intro shows the group only handles cartridges for PCE/TG16, not CD games.
@@MattMan890 Another commenter on here suggested swapping SD cards.... and that fixed the issue. Wish I had thought of that sooner. So the audio sync issues are gone now on my end =)
Ok not having any problems in Rondo of Blood, in using the Japanese 3.0 bios with a BIN/CUE version of the game and I'm using a high quality Class 10 SD card. You can test your card speed in the diagnostics. I'm using my card in my Turbo Express.
Thanks! I really should've thought of trying a different card >< Swapped to a different one and the audio sync issues in CD games I experienced are gone. Both cards gave almost the exact same readings under diagnostics.
Looks good, but I'm confused on some things here. Will the games output in stereo for TG16 CDs, and PCE-CDs ISOs, on a TG16, PC Engine, or Turbo Express, as well as for PCE/TG16 roms. And I don't understand the part about using a spark plug adapter to get stereo audio. Like a traditional spark plug, or is that a name for an audio product? Thanks
The Spark Plug is the name of a product. It uses a Mega Drive 2/Genesis model 2 style output to get RGB and stereo audio. Search for "Spark Plug PC Engine" and you should be able to find it. But note that the current model isn't designed to support CD audio for the Turbo Everdrive Pro. Not sure, but maybe future revisions will be designed to work with the TED Pro. You'd have to contact one of the sellers to find out. The TG16, PC Engine (and Core Grafx and Super Grafx.. maybe the Shuttle, not sure) can output stereo CD audio using the expansion pins in the back. But you'll need something like the spark plug or some other adapter that can tap into those signals. Krikzz has said he has a product in development that'll do RGB video and stereo audio, but it has no release date yet.
@@stpdufus Thanks for the reply. Were people expecting some type of 3.5mm headphone jack on the Turbo ED Plus? I have had an RGB/Component plugin expansion card on the back of my TG16 for a long time now. So that should suffice. I think the part that is confusing me is the CD audio not being in stereo. And then that he is releasing another TED Plus to fix that?? Why not just fix, then release a single product? It seems like he might be rushing it out a bit, but I don't know enough about it to say for sure. It might also be fitting to see a Super GrafX FPGA core for it someday, so that it will support all of the GrafX games on a single flashcart. I know it's only four SGX games (I think, but as one of them is the best home port of Ghouls N Ghosts, it would be nice!)
Hoping to post a new video soon, but the CD audio sync issues were fixed by swapping to a different SD card, and arcade game graphic corruption appears to be fixed with a firmware upgrade I did. That said, the Super HD will definitely give better video output with HDMI and the composite video palette. And stereo audio is built in with the Super HD.
@@stpdufus Stereo audio is an easy mod on the PCE, CoreGrafx & CoreGrax II. Alternatively, there's plug-in devices like the TurboBooster or Spark Plug, which will output stereo audio from the console BUS.
im trying to watch this video but the rack focusing is distracting as hell. why does it keep racking to the table? theres nothing to see there. for example, youre showing the microsd slot but its completely out of focus? why??
I would like to know if this Turbo everdrive pro PC engine works the 5 games that only came out for SuperGrafx and I also wanted to know if you can use cheats in CD games.
It has SuperGrafx support, but only on a SuperGrafx system. They won't play on standard PCE hardware. I believe cheats work for CD games, but I didn't try those myself. The ED menu does have the option for them (can be seen at 4:20 in this video).
From the manual: Supported bin+cue, cue+wav and multi-bin images. Sometimes bin images can be stored as img or iso, they can be played without renaming.
