I’ve really enjoyed mine, it does feel more “daily” than a speed shoe albeit it a very very good daily. Just an average tempo shoe would maybe be a fair assessment? Suppose now in 2024 this is what the Pegasus 41 should be. Still it exceeded my expectations and good for building that leg endurance as you say.
I reccomend the Adidas Adios 8-9 as a Kinvara alternative. My pair is a very reliable and lightweight workout shoe, and the lightstrike pro is awesome. I especially recommend the adios 9 when it comes out, that full LS Pro midsole looks amazing
I ran quite a few miles in the original Turbo - I really wanted to like this shoe, hoping it would be a solid easy daily shoe that I could put a large number of miles on and not rely on any plates. I pretty much hate it - I don't like the drop, it feels simultaneously a low drop whilst the heel gets in my way and doesn't feel like it tips me forward like the Invincible used to (and typically most 10mm shoes). It feels lower drop than a Hoka - but clearly not. I hate the way it feels like you're bottoming out in the mid sole. It just doesn't work for me or my stride as a mid/forefoot runner - every other shoe I've used recently is far better, Speed 2/4, Boston 12, Hoka mach 5, Superblast. May be too much nostalgia for me - but this is relegated to my view of the Pegasus - not one I'm ever going to touch again unless they drastically change the entire shoe. I used to hate Nike for their zoom air bags, well this implementation of Zoom X is below average in comparison to virtually every other shoe I've tried recently.
Interesting, and I can completely understand your thoughts on it... I agree the zoomx is below par, it was my gripe on it too... doesnt feel as per other zoomx shoes. But I do appreciate the ground contact feel, it felt going doing speed in it, felt like I was doing all the work, which I prefer in speedier day shoes. I knew this one would divide opinion! I have the Pegasus Plus, SL2 and Rebel 4. The Pegasus Plus is the better tempo shoe despite the weight, which I don't notice. The SL2 is a fun bouncy shoe, but the squish slows me down a little more as compared to the Pegasus Plus. The Rebel 4 is way more cushioned and used more of a cruiser as compared to the Pegasus Plus. It's nice to have some lower stack, ground feel mixed in with all of the tall stack and plates that we have nowadays. I love it.
Good to hear you finally like a Nike non racing shoe again :) I have got the exact same one as you and seems the weight agrees at 333g in a UK 13. Must say that weight increase over the Turbo 1 (which was about 315g for us) and especially Turbo 2 (278g) was annoying when I first got them. However when I actually tested them in two shoeoffs - one with all the other Turbos and another with the SL2, Rebel v4, Mach 6 & Speed 4 there were wasn't any obvious performance difference for me. Indeed I felt I just liked running in the Peg Plus more than the low drop Rebel v4 and Mach 6 just because that feels more natural for me. Oddly I actually ran "faster" in the Next Nature than the "real" ones :) In fact my biggest take away from both these tests is that they all do fine and it is 99% you and what sort of drop and ride you like. Further I was only marginally faster in the Alphafly 3 although it was noticeably a bit easier in the Vaporfly 3.
I think you hit the nail on the head... it comes down to personal preference of drop and the geometry... My thoughts were "if you dont like ground contact feel then you'll hate this shoe"... but if you dont mind it then you might feel like you are shifting at a good pace!
@@TheFODRunner yeah agreed and probably why say you love the Mach 6 but I am not really motivated to wear them that much. There is an element of "Ground feel" in the Peg Plus but a very modern description and so more a "bit" compared to seemingly next to none in some shoes these days. They are hardly "minimalist" for sure.
Completely agree with ground contact feel. That is a GOOD thing that the running community is now presenting as a negative. So backwards. Re: Streakfly, Surprised they weren’t durable for you. (We’re probably same weight, different height) and I loved those as well
I know you have the Hyperion Max 2, but you need to give the Hyperion 2 a shot. That is currently my favorite shoe in a category similar to this. I liked it better than the Plus, and the SL2. So responsive, but not max stack and super light.
If you’re looking for a light non-plated trainer for speedier sessions, the Puma Liberate Nitro 2 is an in my opinion solid option that has somehow gone under the radar. If you can still find it though, seems like Puma discontinued it.
Interesting firs thoughts, Thanks. Literally the only thing I have done so far in mine is putting it on the scale. Yeah, I was hoping for it to be a bit lighter too. It's not quite as light as the Mach 6 /Rebel v4 for me. Oh and Yes, please do give the Extra Channel some Love:)
5:04 it is not meant to be squishy as the invincible. Remember the turbo 1 and 2 had the harder react foam with zoom x in it. And this new zoom x foam should be what Nike has done to align and improve on with those feel.
Oh yes, totally understand there needs to be different durometers for different variants of the foams, but I’ve never felt one this firm… even in the old turbo 2 by recollection!
US$180 is a bit expensive by today's standards but Nike already discounted this launch colorway down to $127 (plus tax). I snatched a pair. I think it would make a decent daily trainer.
Thanks for asking Ian... waiting until post marathon block now. I'm not sure if I updated people but I have been in contact with Bath university to get it done there, so thats where I will go... I just got to a point where I dont want to interupt the flow of marathon training... but yes still planning on getting it done there, especially as I will be doing more of it over the winter, so I want to make sure I am doing it right!
Used my Sportsshoes discount for the Metaspeed Sky Paris, preparing to break them out for my half in 3 weeks time...yeah... knee went pop walking down a flight of stairs at work. All had gone brilliantly until now.
@@TheFODRunner rested it for two days with ice and then heat and massage gun and ibuprofen. Started doing squats and stretches and is loads better. Pain free. Will try a 5k tomorrow on flat roads after resistance band work and see how it goes. Furious with my old bones, currently. Had got to the point where I was aiming for 4.20/k. But not going to be a dick about it, there are other races and the itb will get stronger!
I think I would still pick the Pegasus Turbo 2 over any other shoe. Literally all they had to do was release an update called the Pegasus Turbo 3 that was pretty much the same shoe and I would've bought 5 pairs.
Interestingly, I still have a thumb width at the end, which is spot on… it’s just that red firmer fabric seems to be noticeable when I slip my foot in. No issues on the run though
I kind of thought that Nike was just making that shoe because I had a friend that bought it and he wasn’t too impressed either but maybe just quiet everybody because that’s everybody kept talking about it like Oka came out with the Clifton one that’s all everybody kept talking about here you go I’ve I guess fell out of love with Nikes long time ago. I don’t think they’re groceries are any good and I don’t run carpet shoes so don’t have a drop is too steep for me. Great video though. I really enjoyed it. I know I won’t buy it now. I did see a street reply not my size at Marshalls local department store in the clearance section. I’ve seen here forUS$60 but they were half a size too small. Have a great day. leave it to Nike to give us the lowest stack for the highest weight. Seems like except for their race shoes, any shoe they make has competitors that are much better.
