Hello. Thanks for your reply. I have seen a of your videos but on the linear potentiometer it does not say the closed lenght and the travel lenght as haltech have quite a few options and for the e46 I dont know what to order lenght wise close and open . Because you had one mounted on the e46 maybe you could give me some advice on the 2 aspecte. Thank you
Think they will sell a ton of the dipsticks if priced well. Everyone has been complaining about the electronic dipsticks for a couple of decades now. Only on issue is a simple way to code out the electronic dipstick, if this could be done with a dongle and take next to no IT literacy then it would remove the main barrier to purchase.
Crazy cool! I'm so happy you're back. I hope for good this time! The shop could be on it way to a lot more business with mods like these IMHO. Love it!
Great video as always Andrew 👍 Things you can do with the right tools and knowledge! I'm slightly jealous you will experience 2nd best thing to Koeningsegg CC850 automatic gearbox with manual mode much earlier than me, but I still have so many other things to learn about my car and new setup that this time will fly! Just got 1st revision of maps from Ken and now I have all MHD+ features enabled, with 4 maps and FlexFuel scaling on one of them. This thing just keeps on giving me the thrills 😀
@@ZeroTo60TubeSuccessful shakedown uncovered a reason for funny AFRs and STFS's. I had a leaky injector which eventually gave up completely a week later 🙃 I will DM you a hot video 😉
When i first saw it, i was like, YES that would be so much easier and quicker on an oil change. But then you think about times i have been at the track, you pop in to let the car cool down and checking the oil is a proper pain with the electronic one and i always forget.
Hey Andrew! So glad to see you and the shenanigans you're up to. I got 3:28 into the video and had to pause.... YES! I want that. I honestly never imagined typing these words, but I would very much like a dipstick. I have an N54 E82 with a 6HP. Please kindly ask Dan where or how I might pay him for one. lol
I'd really like to here how the simulated clutch works/is tuned in the trans. Are the solenoids PWM, are you actuating transmission clutches with the converter clutch locked, actuating both, line pressure control, shift strategies with the converter locked or unlocked, etc? I'd love to hear the nitty gritty details for how it functions from a technical standpoint and what kind of power you can put through the trans on boosted launches and "clutch kicks" without blowing through the clutches or having significant wear over time.
There's no way to sugar coat this. We dont know lol. From a user standpoint all you can control in the correlation between pedal potion and percentage of clutch the TCU sees. We have no idea what stageries are in place in the tcu to make it all work. However as you will see in the next video. It feels like a real manual clutch.
Hi Andrew, is awesome! You guys are about 3 weeks ahead of me putting this style set up in my 8HP 2j powrer wrx drift car. What travel length did you choose for the haltech linear position sensor? Also why not delete all the moving parts and make a spring style set up inside the cabin to achieve the same result?
Probably because he wants it to look like an oem inside the car. Id say as of right now, youll peobably need to only produce the additional stuff to the n54 cylinder and thats a dealkeeper for a lot of people. You can give them a list of needed oem things plus this thing there and bam it works. Otherwise as you mentioned, youd be in need to produce a complete activation mechanism...
Might be keen on the dipstick in near future, especially with the JMC kit going on soon. What does Dan reckon he’d want to sell them for $ wise? Could Dan supply instructions to Wedge for what needs to be removed/updated in the map, Ken would probably know already tbh lol.
@@azatranzport1117 G members are huge part of me being able to run the channel. They pay for the membership and we have a group chat where the behind the scenes stuff gets spoken about. Ken from Wedge is there. Austin from NXS. If its happening on the n54 platform the g members know about it before anyone else :P www.buymeacoffee.com/zeroto60tube/why-i-buy-me-a-coffee
Nice e-clutch stuff :) I actually swapped a N54 oil level sensor into my S55 because the ECU i used (Maxxecu) can read it in realtime, so i made a few strategies in the ECU and it was really good! But if not using Maxxecu i would defenetley go for a manual dipstick!
@@nissejarnet Well thats better than waiting like you have to with the idrive. We have got a couple of Maxxecus coming, so might have a play with that as well. How is everything going over your way? Any new builds on the horizon?
There are so many different sizes of belleville washers and stacking configurations which would enable for a more compact an adjustable solution than the valve spring...but really love the what do we have laying around that will work for now..always nice to see another 3d cad person getting dirty as well lol Looked like it was solid works?
Man, i couldnt believe how they did this with basic scrap haha. The belleville should work, but getting the right ones to work with this partcular master and slave cylinder will be tricky. The adjustability on the valve spring was an eye opener.
I was short to ask you when you'll pump out the next video, actually I can't wait for the next one😅 the dipstick idea is really great! The thing about that I really wondered was the clutch mechanism and I was shocked when I saw your first variant😅 but yes the other idea sounds really great! I'm absolutely curious how it'll work out in real life!
Yeah, we have seen this version from the UK for the CS motors for 575gbp and a much more simple part than this N54 one. We are hoping this n54 one will be around $500-$600aud. Maybe less if the interest is there. The more they make the cheaper they get etc. www.apmotorsport.co.uk/product-page/bmw-m4-gt4-dipstick-kit
Was thinking about all the little aspects involved with my swap and actually thought about the oil level sensor. Was thinking I’d need to read via obd. Would be interested in the dipstick for sure. I’d like to see a version that retains the electronic dip stick as well. I realize moving the e dipstick down would cause it to read lower. Possibly a different sensor that has a taller level sensor? A quick looks shows that part number covers A LOT of different bmws. My second idea would be to modify the “tune” for a different range what it considers full and empty.
There has been some work dont on a version that retains the original sensor. However it is a much more bulk part, moving the original sensor over to the side and maintaining the same level. Its been shelved for now, but may look in to it, if the interest is there.
@@ZeroTo60Tube yeah it would be more or less just like a low level warning before a low pressure warning would be a nice feature to have lol. Like a cooler like is leaking and you’re losing oil driving down the road.
Hello mate. Great content. I also have an e46 with lamik tcu and I wanted to install the haltech linear potentiometer on the clutch pedal. Can you give me some advice regarding the best lenght for the potentiometer for the e46 ? Thank you
I’m sure Dan is expecting me to comment & say I’m interested in the dipstick, except my N54 is in a Nissan Chassis & I now have the exhaust on that side of the engine sooo... hmmm...
This question has probably been asked already. If you do a clutch pedal like your doing do you have to use it all the time or will the 8hp still work as an auto. Thanks
every n54 needs a oilpangasket anyway so why not built one directly in the pan so you can have both the dipstick and the sensor, and do the sump pans on exchange basis.
Brock was working on a design that incorporates the factory sensor as well. It’s a little more bulky than this but not too bad. Main reason no to do the full sump version is the cost of posting a sump. It would be redic.
The dipstick appears to be well designed and manufactured. It would certainly be better than the electronic version. I would see the N54 community getting right behind this product.
I will need to check with the map on the N55, but im sure its possible. Once the N54 is all finalised the guys do have plans to work on the later models. N55 B58 and S55.
once this is all finished can you get it serviced at a BMW dealer. id just like to watch the techs face as he works out wtf hes looking at :D Just say you just got it off gumtree, and you think the clutch is slipping.
Does it have to be a potentiometer? My driving simulator pedals use load cells and have adjustable dampers built in and that would make it as simple as mounting
I think the hydraulic is going to be cruicial to get the feel right. In a factory clutch you are limited by how fast the fluid flows for both depression and how the clutch pedal returns.
I was toying with idea of putting clutch on the steering wheel F1 style, just don't have enough time till next year to try it out. But saying that, I still think having a pedal is my first option. What's great about 8HP Lamik TCU solution, there is nothing stopping me from having both pedal and steering wheel clutch leavers at the same time ;)
@@ZeroTo60Tube another way to do it is get a small accumulator on the end of the master cylinder line and just change the pressure inside the accumulator to suit how u want the feel, probably be a lot easier to dial in n smaller to!
We have a drifter here in SA using a virtual clutch in a DCT car & he’s just using mechanical springs in the pedal assembly itself to achieve the right feel... I’m going to see him to test this for myself before deciding which way I wanna set my 8HP pedal up I think. What these guys are doing here looks amazing, but pretty complex & pricey (if you’re not someone who can just make it yourself haha)
Thanks for the videos, there isn't much content on these swaps in english. Looking to do an awd hp95 swap on my project 3000gt. I remember you mentioning turbolamik connects to can bus, is that just bmw canbus or would it work with aftermarket ecus namely Haltech? Also do you know if turbolamik can shut off the transfercase for the front wheels? Cheers!
The lamik can work with a lot of canbus versions, actually it just needs définitions. And if you followed the video you saw last video that they did not setup can correctly but initially it would have been there for the haltech. A lot of people using maxxecu etc...about the transfercase...if I remember right that it has some xdrive things or they are working on it. Otherwise there are other solutions out there for this too!
@@ttgtomr BEYTEK on youtube is doing a awd RX7 conversion, i think he has done the working out on the transfer case, worth checking out his stuff anyway. He is using lamik for transmission and maxxecu for transfercase.
Hey guys, I know this question comes a few years late, but did you ever get the additional power of the fastchip RStuner verified by dyno? I picked up my own RS 265 after watching some of your vids on the car. I'd really like to get it to 300hp and it seems like the most cost effective way to get it there. Cheers
Would love to hold of one of them dipsticks! Using my 135i coupe as a competition drift car it’s annoying with my car as I run a syvecs s7 I don’t even think my level sensor works. 100% would but one of them
So there was a design that encorperated the orginal sensor. Its been put on the back burner for now, as it requires a much larger billet piece and will be a little more expensive. If you are serious, send an email to zeroto60tube@gmail.com and we could maybe get you on a beta tester for the version with the sensor. Just a heads up the sensor version will be around the $600-$800aud mark.
Dumb question, but do they make one of them fancy manual dipsticks for the E60 535's? Because I don't trust the electronic dipstick on a 500+ hp heavily modded car.
@@ZeroTo60Tube Thank you, I have a 2004 e46 and I been keeping and eye on the DCT swap bc I think it’s an amazing transition and want to try it for myself
Hay man!!! While we have these in a few race cars, both us and the owenrs didnt realise, when you remove the oil level sensor the oil temp guage on the dash switches to coolant temp.... Nice little fail safe on BMWs behalf and the race cars guys dont care anyway as long as they have coolant temp to keep an eye they dont care. But really these only work for guys running aftermarket ECUs. If that suits you shoot me an email 8speed.au@gmail.com
Ohhhhh, we would need to do some working out. The fuel lines are the issue on the e8x and e9x chassis. As long as there is clearance in that area, it will work on the e6x chassis.
@@ZeroTo60Tube dude that's awesome! Yea I reached out to lamik and just need to email their sales guy for a quote. Thanks for the video! That's gnarly!
The way Dan has done them in the past is in the custom tune. If there is enough interest i am hoping MHD can add a tickbox so anyone with MHD can do it easily.
@@ZeroTo60Tube that would literally be my only limiting factor. Besides obviously not being $hundreds of dollars to check the oil. I mentioned if we all go together as a group buy we may have more of a chance of this coming to fruition. We'll see how this plays out.
I think he has the machined parts to assemble about 5 more. However at the time of filming we only had the prototyes in atfermarket ECU cars and one race car. We didnt realise the temp sensor for the oil is in the oil level sensor. When you unplug the oil level sensor, the temp guage on the cluster defaults to coolant temp. So these are only really suitable if you dont want oil temp on the factory cluster. @@dariusp5539
Unfortunately I have ran in to some unexpected bills, relating to the man who took my laptop. So the 4.6 will be going up for sale. I can’t afford to keep it unfortunately.
@@ZeroTo60Tube Ahhh mate… Thats terrible news. Have you done anything else to the box since the last time you had it apart? Im not sure if you remember but you gave me some pretty helpful advice when I had my box out. I did replace clutch packs and some other seals and that b drum and bearing that had failed. I rebuilt mechatronics unit too. I put mine back in the car and was most pleased when it ran but, I got 300kms out of it and it shat itself again. I have since bought a donor 4.6 and used a box from that which had a full rebuild from “asnu” transmission services. I have only now got the box back in as doing it on the ground at home is a nightmare but it’s all back together and ready for rego now.
is dans forum handle ducky? the powerglide car from back in the day that broke all the quarter mile records? can you send me one of those dip sticks? my car is on maxxecu and i have 0 way of telling oil quality or level. i change my oil twice a week to be careful lol. ps. check your email.
Duck! Yes thats him, he's still the fastest man to drive a true street N54 down the drag strip. We're bringing that car back soon and ghassans record is in our sights. Just in case you didnt know, with the Maxxecu BSD addon, you can check the oil with the maxx. I was just talking to a guy who has it checking oil level much faster than the factory computer as well. That said a dipstick is a no brainer really.
