It’s interesting to find a foreigner talk about Türkan. We have a tone of great actresses but no one has replaced her yet for all the reasons you nicely stated. I love her movies before the 80s, they’re so lighthearted and sweet. After the 80s she started making a lot of social issue kind of movies and directed some of them herself, also great of course. I just like the older Turkish movies more soothing as you said. ❤

There were also some negative rumours about her and her diva behavior. "Türkan Şoray kanunları" literally translated 'The Türkan Şoray laws'. This list had rules like, no kissing, no nudity, no filming outside of İstanbul. Every script had to been given a month before, if she didn't like it, they would have to present a new script. She wouldn't film on Sunday, only worked between 8 and 19 hours. Only her name had to be shown on film posters and advertisements. And many more rules like that.

I read in an article that Turkey is the second producer after Hollywood in number of movies. All the turkish series in netflix are wonderful. Though it is well known that the shooting conditions are terrible. They are working overtime.

She also had an affair for 23 years with an 20 year older man, called Ruhçan Adlı, who was an important figure in the movie industry and who helped her career a lot. Also back in those days there was Yeşilçam, that was a movie company like for example MGM. They made a lot of movies, most movies were shot in a couple of weeks or months, so they didn't film for a year like they do now. That's how it was possible for her to do 11 or 12 movies a year. Sometimes, it would also overlap, so they would act in 2 different movies at the same time. She had plastic surgery. A nose job and some other procedures. She looks really different in her first black and white movies. She has an sister Nazan Şoray who also acted and sang. And she has Gypsy backroots. Also, once she fell of an horse during filming, and broke her neck in Elazığ. People were afraid she would die or be paralyzed for life. Thankfully she recovered after some surgeries.
