Turkish Air-to-air Kills in Syrian Civil War (Part 1)

Turkey was involved in the Syrian Civil War in various ways. Mostly, by supporting insurgent groups but also by shooting down Syrian or Russian aircraft that violated its airspace, no matter how briefly. But before that, Turks were on the receiving end. One of their RF-4E recon Phantoms was shot down just off Syrian coast in 2012. Turkey then 'retaliated' by sending their F-16s to shoot down two Mi-17 helicopters, a MiG-23, one Russian and two Syrian Su-24 strike fighters, one L-39 trainer and several drones. This is part one of our video covering these incidents in detail.
DCS World Syria Map enables us to reenact historical events from the Syrian Civil War on real locations.

I'm actually Syrian and live in the Lattakia governorate and I actually was a witness to that RF4 being shot down I live in the Jablah area but was in Lattakia city at the time And given my eye witness that jet was really far out to sea and was actually quite hard to see but it was definitely within Syrian airspace as it would've been impossible to see if it was outside of it. Still great video and reenactment also very cool to see the place where I live in one of your videos P.S. a theory of mine is that the Turkish Jet was shot down by Russians given that they basically own the Khmemiem Airbase but it was pretty early in the war at the time so Russian intervention in Syria was pretty mild but that's just my opinion

@jakosloth
@jakosloth 2 года назад
@@showtime112 That's why I had that theory, because I and the people that were watching at the time didn't hear any missile sound, which lead me to believe that it was maybe an S300 launched from Khmemiem Airbase as it's quite far away. We only saw the trail and the plane go down in smoke

Yes Turkish f4 somehow violated the syrian airspace but pilots werent aware of the situation plus turkey and syria didnt have bad relations when it comes to airsoace violations. And syrian airforce didnt warn the turkish f4. After that incident turkish army announced that turkish airforce will shotdown every syrian aircraft that gets close to turkish borders and shoot down a syrian helicopter a few months after the incident and a russian SU-24 in 2015.

Regarding the point for example that Turkish F-16 issued a warning to Syrian helicopter prior to shooting it down, can someone explain if that is even realistic? I would assume that both aircraft have to be be tuned to same radio frequency in order for the helicopter pilot to hear it, so F-16 pilot would have to know the exact frequency for that particular helicopter at that moment in time, plus it would have to be unencrypted, unsecured frequency right, which is kinda hard to believe? Keep up the good work, Showtime, looking forward to next one. I hvala ti na vodičima za Mig-21 i Mig-29, bili su mi od izuzetne pomoći kad sam tek ulazio u svet DCS-a.
@showtime112
@showtime112 2 года назад
There is a thing called 'Aircraft emergency frequency', also known as 'guard'. Warnings are issued on it. Now, Syrian aircraft probably weren't listening to it. But maybe their ground controllers were. One of two MiG-23s did turn back (but that could have been caused by a mechanical failure). Super da su tutoriali bili korisni!
