i think its adorable that the microwave says "enjoy your meal" when the time is up.

During the last few months of my dad's life, all he could really do was relax with his feet elevated, watch a little TV, and eat. I was was really blessed as a kid that my dad always made sure that us kids were able to at least taste anything that was placed in front of us and that's given me the ability and enjoyment of eating a wide variety of foods as an adult. So, even though it was a very difficult trauma that brought me to move closer to my dad during his final months, I was blessed by getting to spend that time with him - watching baseball and cooking some of his favorite foods that I remembered he was fond of. When I'd go shopping, I'd find treats that I remembered he really liked and bring home bags of pistachios, I can't even remember now the different candy bars he liked, but there was a candy very similar to this only it had little chunks of nuts and fruit in it that he was very fond of. I was watching you make this and wishing that I'd had this recipe at the time; Dad would have really gotten a kick out of his favorite candy being homemade and I could have put chopped pistachios and chopped dates in the mixture just before pouring into the pan for the cooling (his favorite nut and favorite fruit). Thanks for all the great recipes you share with us! I think food evokes some of our best memories!

Sorry to hear of your dad's passing but glad you have so many fond memories of him...and as long as you have memories, you will always have your dad in heart and mind. As for that candy you're referring to, it's a French nougat, I know because I love it to bits. I can't remember the brand name but it was in a blue and white striped package, It's creamy white and has bits of pistachios and candied fruit in it. Haven't had it in ages but I loved it.

***** Almond roca has almonds, caramel and chocolate. This candy that she is referring to with the pistachios and dried fruit is called french nougat.

For those of you with *Rose water* questions: You can use *other flavorings* to make Turkish delight, such as orange, lemon, strawberry... those are probably the best ones. The rose water's primary function is flavoring, so you can actually have Turkish delight in *any flavor of your choice!* :) For those of you having trouble *FINDING* rose water, you can probably get it in baking shops, or in cooking stores. There are also ways to *make it*, so google that! However, there are *NO SUBSTITUTES* for rose water... *either you have it, or you don't!* I hope I helped you guys out! Hope your Turkish Delight comes out delish :)

It is much easier to cut if you dip the knife into hot water in between slices. This lubricates the blade and reduces the compression caused by the gelatine clinging to the blade that is seen in the video.
@lindas.8036
@lindas.8036 5 лет назад
If you take it out of the pan BEFORE cutting, it is easier to cut AND you will not scratch up your pan with the knife blade! AARGH!

This is such an easy recipe. I looked at other recipes but I didn't have a candy thermometer so I chose this recipe. Judging by the other recipes I ended up using 2 teaspoons of rose water. But I made it to put in rocky road. But making it to put in the rocky road it doesn't even need the rose water. I am going to make it again for rocky road and will be colouring it dark blue. I wanted something jelly like to put in my rocky road that didn't smash up. Thanks Todd, just the perfect addition for rocky road.
