This is a yeast dough. Self-raising flour uses baking powder as the leavening agent so the end product will be very different.

This looks like a "bagel" but it isn't. Bagels are Jewish Polish in origin. Interesting article here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagel "A bagel (Yiddish: בײגל‎ beygl; Polish: bajgiel), also spelled beigel,[1] is a bread product originating in the Jewish communities of Poland. It is traditionally shaped by hand into the form of a ring from yeasted wheat dough, roughly hand-sized, that is first boiled for a short time in water and then baked. The result is a dense, chewy, doughy interior with a browned and sometimes crisp exterior. Bagels are often topped with seeds baked on the outer crust, with the traditional ones being poppy, sunflower or sesame seeds. Some may have salt sprinkled on their surface, and there are different dough types, such as whole-grain or rye.[2][3] Though the origins of bagels are somewhat obscure, it is known that they were widely consumed in eastern European Jewish communities from the 17th century. The first known mention of the bagel, in 1610, was in Jewish community ordinances in Kraków, Poland."

@charmedliz6693
@charmedliz6693 8 лет назад
Molasses , cos it sugary make the dough gold fast , and you put the bagels in boil water that's method make the dough shining and smooth
@charmedliz6693

If you don't put in boil water then the dough will be crispy and that's the difference between bagels and the Semit

@Sabland1

They never answer. They put water with the yeast and then water when kneading the dow but we don't have the quantity. Is it just one cup for everything? Plus, they put the salt directly on the yeast. However, salt tends to kill yeast. :(

They used instant in the video I believe. Also, a substitute for the molasses to make these 100% sugar free would be dip in egg wash then the sesame seeds and bake. The egg wash does an excellent job at browning.
