OK I am trying to piggy back the Monitor off of my HDMI TV I bought the VGA adaptor to HDMI for the monitor and plugged in the HDMI cable, just a note the VGA is a female end HDMI I don't think that makes a difference because like you said I don't want to waste a good monitor, so I hooked everything up and as I thought I would see the same picture that I see on my tv on the monitor and I was wrong no picture, I ran a HDMI splitter off the TV I wonder should I be running the splitter off the cable box ? I just realized I did not do that I wonder if it will work then what are your thoughts,

If you have a standalone sound card there is no need to connect the audio aux on the converter correct it can connect directly to the sound card.

Yes you can. It’s just the opposite of what I explained in the video, just remember the adapter needs power so don’t forget to plug it in to a USB port.

I've tried connecting my laptop (HDMI) to my LG monitor/tv (VGA) and it doesnt seem to be working. My laptop has been able to connect to other hdmi displays and the monitor has been able to connect to other vga sources but I don't have any other ways to check if my laptop is the problem or if the monitor is just incompatible. the issue isnt the monitor itself but the laptop isnt detecting it as a second monitor. (it's pretty old - flatron m203wa)

That’s the issue for me. If I don’t power my adapter I get no picture. I just plug it in to one of the USB ports. It’s midi usb (the same you use for the older android phones and Amazon firesticks)

for audio, is it possible to just connect small speakers straight in, or do they have to be powered by something: hence why you went with the bluthooth speaker?

VGA does not transmit the sound so the speaker must be connected to the computer. The speaker can be connected wired or wirelessly depending on I/O or hardware.

I also got a samsung syncmaster but I got the 223bw which I think is actually older but anyway it's 16:10 which I still don't understand where that is used I mean I had 2 16:9 monitors at one point but one broke down (half a year ago probably) and this is the only option that I had to replace my main monitor (the one that broke down) asap and I mean I'm still using it it's fine but 16:10 is just weird I'd love to know where 16:10 is actually being used

It must have been from the filming as I don’t get any flicker. I’ve now used this method on 2 different monitors and are both running perfectly. I hope this helps you.

I need some help if you still reply. I plugged in the VGA cable to the VGA to HDMI adapter and connected it to my ps4. My ps4 was on and my monitor was powered up and connected to my monitor so it works. My problem is, my monitor still says "check signal cable". Do you know any solutions to this?

It needs power for it to work. If you check out the link in the description for the one that I used in the video you will notice that if has a micro usb slot. This is vital and needs to be used. I just plug it in to one of the USB ports of my PS4 to power the adapter and it works great.

My heart hurt so much from that melodramatic introduction to that "old" monitor. I think this borrowed one is even older. Anyway, my problem is, the borrowed monitor is a tv/pc monitor. Samsung. I only have a DVI to HDMI connector. The new Ryzen 3 2200g build has the June 2019 Adrenalin software driver. No HDMI scaling. Been an issue with AMD for years according to all forum posts. AMD keeps on removing then returning HDMI scaling whereas in Intel and NVIDIA, you have that option, ALWAYS. Anyway, since no options in the tv/monitor, researching if I can just use the VGA port in the monitor instead. There are cables VGA PC In to Mobo DVI. VGA PC Mobo HDMI. Wondering which one to buy as it's still expensive in our currency. Thanks for the video. I really felt that melodrama.

The monitor will have its own plug the hdmi adapter needs power too but it only needs usb power which also can be from a plug or another source which accepts usb.

USB is powered by a mains plug or from another source just as you can charge your mobile from usb but To simplify it and make it as easy as possible......yes you would need 2 electrical plug sockets.

The adapter needs power to work with the PS4 so I plugged the usb power cable which should be supplied with the adapter in to one of the USB ports on the PS4.

Dear Stu, You are not tec savvy enough. you called the device a vga to hdmi converter, when it is actually a hdmi to vga converter. as the data can only travel one way in these devices you have to be more accurate. You are connecting an old screen to a modern computer. I was after a video about an old computer to a modern display. If you can't get your tec right I wont be watching any more of your videos. Sorry mate , from down under.

Only if your monitor support that resolution. I can achieve a resolution which I would say is the equivalent (to the naked eye) of 720p.

Also, seriously wondering about the power question. Could you try running power hungry stuff on hdmi & usb ports, to see if there'll be a weird/painful stuff happening?(PTSD flashbacks of gigs, where external soundcard didn't get enough juice and created the worst kind of sudden distorted white noise on max output volume possible), I wonder what the screen equivalent would be...
