Thanks! I originally bought a tube of it so I could use up my set of grahams. But when I finished this painting I ordered up a few more colors. I like the walnut oil.

This is interesting. There is also the option of making your own water mixable oils by obtaining the raw pigment and incorporating it with water soluble linseed oil. That is what I'm going to do to make water soluble cobalt teal.
@ChrisBreier
@ChrisBreier 5 месяцев назад
I never thought of that! Let us know how that turns out. Make sure that you research how to safely work with dry pigments though because you want to avoid inhaling the dust, especially cobalt.

hello sir is that medium requires another medium or not?

@@kennethaquino8352 I'm not sure what you're asking....I think the medium mix 100 from cobra works the same way as the one I used from Schmincke in the video.

i mean is if you use Medium W mediumis do you need to used another medium like linseed oil or safflower oil to increase the flow sorry English is not my primary language
@ChrisBreier
@ChrisBreier Месяц назад
Once you add the Medium W, it works just water mixable oils. So for the first layer I would add water to increase the flow ans so that it dries faster. I only add oil or painting medium when I add additional layers, to follow the fat over lean principle.You would want to use water mixable linseed oil instead of regular linseed oil.

Thanks for the feedback. I was doing some research about which gloves are best for painting with oils and I thought that I could make a video about that and some of the other issues.

How do you keep your brushes from drying out while you are doing this?
@ChrisBreier
@ChrisBreier 5 месяцев назад
If you don't add water to the paint, it can take days for it to dry so it's not usually an issue. It does dry faster when thinned out with water....but it's not nearly as fast as acrylics. If it becomes a problem you can just dunk the bristles in some water to keep them wet.

Is there any benefit for using water mixable oil paint? For me i love how the oil doesn’t dry up and how think or think you can make it. Can I do these with water mixables?
@ChrisBreier
@ChrisBreier 5 месяцев назад
The main advantage is that you don't need solvents at all, and they also don't contain solvents. Water mixable oils are the same as regular oils except they contain some sort of emulsifier that allows you to thin them with water and clean brushes with soap and water. They take days to dry. You can thin them with water for the initial wash, or use them for thick impasto painting. There are a bunch of mediums for them too. I just bought a tube of painting paste from cobra that's for impasto painting. It extends the paint and it also helps thick layers dry without wrinkling.

Thanks for the feedback, this video has been on my todo list for awhile now! 🙂 It's mostly the solvents that's used in oil painting that's the issue.

I have bought the gel and the liquid to use with the oil paints I already have. So far I am not able to rinse a brush in water and get it clean. Did you start with new brushes? I have followed the instructions for proportions. When I rinse my brush in water the paint on the brush turns into something mushy with little pigment grains visible in the bristles.
@ChrisBreier
@ChrisBreier 23 дня назад
When you say you tried rinsing a brush do you mean for changing colors or when you try to clean them when you're done painting? What kind of bristles-natural hair or synthetic? I used mostly synthetic nylon brushes. I had a little bit of staining in the bristles from a few of the colors but Maters brush cleaner got them clean.

I saw reviews about this....some cons are you need really large quantity of this medium to make it water soluble and cleaning brushes isn't easy too. Chris...I request whenever you review a product it would be more helpful if you mention disadvantages too. No wonder this medium is 10 yr old and still many are not interested. Please don't take my point negatively.🙏
@ChrisBreier

When I was researching it I found that most of the reviews on Amazon and Blick are largely positive. I'm not sure why they needed to add large quanties of the medium to make it water soluble, maybe it was the brand of oils they used?....but for me the 2 parts paint to 1 part medium was enough. I almost didn't buy it because a review sad it smelled horrible but I then noticed that it says that it's odorless right on the tube. I didn't detect any odor at all.

@@sujanithtottempudi2991I just wipe the paint off with paper towel and then swish it around in a jar of water. That works good enough for changing colors when I'm painting. When I'm finished I use Dawn dish soap and water to give the brushes a more thorough cleaning. I just watched the review you mentioned, I'm not sure why he had to use so much medium, it sounds like he exceeded 50% which would explain why it made the paint streaky. What I used in the video was roughly 1/3. If you decide to try it, let us know how it goes.
