I don't think people realize that the acting in TBOM is supposed to be stupid and cheesy.. Especially when the Elders are on stage. The musical was created to make fun of them, so..

I agree the acting is supposed to be cheesy, but the musical was not really made to make fun of Mormons only. if you watch any interviews with the creators, they will say that they love Mormons and grew up around many of them, and that the general takeaway that should be taken from the musical isn't "oh these guys are stupid lets make fun of them" but more "yeah their stories are stupid and they're over the top, but most are good-hearted people and the morals taken from their stories can be helpful"

I know this isn't strictly true to the original version - however, as a "showcase" piece (which I assume it is) the parts have obviously been divided up so each person gets an equal shot - it can't be denied that the cast are very talented - especially when it comes to the dancing - I loved it anyway :-) xxxx.

This song is painfully accurate to the experience of growing up in the Mormon church..... most of my childhood was about repressing my feelings; questions about what the church told me, wanting to be independent, not having an interest in the scripture.... I didn't dare admit I had those feelings. So I told myself I did, until I was old enough to leave.

It's not a cult and everyone is trying to make it seem like people are being kidnapped. The very core of the church is to love everyone and respect their beliefs.

I was super down for Mormons.... I've had the same experience with 3 close Mormon friends. They are the nicest people until they realize you have your own religion and own faith and they COMPLETELY abandon you. They are so nice and friendly superficially but cold and heartless users on the inside. They see you as a prospective convert or your a threat. Wtf.

Well, yes, some of the lines are sung by different characters than the Broadway musical, but that's not the point. The director was obviously working with the talents of his cast. So, come on, lighten up and enjoy a pretty good amateur performance.

It's funny because the Mormon's love the musical and feel like it represents them to a tee, they even run advertisements in the musical programs. It's what's clever about Matt Parker and Trey Stone, as they generally do in South Park, they are very accurate and factual making the humour that much better.

Why do they always turn this into a Company Number? This is supposed to be Elder McKinley's moment to shine! Oh well, good performance! Plus by breaking up the lines it kind of messes with certain jokes. Elder McKinley is supposed to sing "boys should be with girls it's heavenly father's plan" but while doing so sort of seem like he's still convincing himself. It's also really a much more affectionate parody than having one Elder forcefully tell another.

As someone who desperately wants to leave the Mormon church, but can’t for the sole reason that I’m under 18 and living with my parents and numerous other factors, I can’t even begin to describe how this song feels to me. It’s super funny and accurate, but it’s accurate enough that I also feel really upset listening to it. The whole “Mormons are always super happy and friendly” shtick is very surface level, even if it is genuine. At least with how I experienced growing up as a Mormon, it was never directly said, but feelings are definitively suppressed, everything from sadness to anger to sexuality and especially doubt. All these little beliefs and principles has had my family stuck in an abusive situation for a very long time, and everyone thought it was completely normal. Luckily I’m no longer in an abusive I’ve situation, but it and the church itself has left lifetime scars on me. The church can teach some great things and make some people really happy, but don’t let a few good examples let you ignore some of the people who are truly suffering in the name of the church.

The way they changed it may have made it less accurate to the original music, but having multiple people sing some lines let them add in more harmonies, which is really important if they were performing for some kinda of showcase. Anyway, they did incredible. They were incredibly entertaining, both vocally and visually (especially the spinning at the end). They had incredible energy that just made you want to dance and sing along (even if you'd probably get slapped if someone didn't know what you were singing to). Can't wait to come back to this when I'm bored. 😂

It really ruins the whole point of the song that McKinley isn't the one who sings that just not acting on those feelings is bad. His whole part of the song is that he knows hes gay, and sees it as a bad thing anyway. Not that other people tell him it is. Thats what gives the line its emotional and comedic impact.
