We didn’t have any room for a full sliding barn door, so the Misses wanted to build a bifold barn door. We set out to figure it out one weekend and now; Not only is this project one of our top sellers, it’s one of our favorite builds we’ve done for ourselves too!

You should seal chalk paint ALWAYS. Just FYI.

While this is true with traditional chalk paints. Our house made chalk paint does have an acrylic base, so sealing isn’t always necessary. My apologies if we didn’t explain that detail in the video.

Maybe just use 1 panel per door then use a v-groove bit in the router and a straight edge to achieve the plank look vs cutting individual strips and having to round them over... it's what a do on a lot of my actual barndoor door builds and works great weather sanding or staining...

Thanks for the idea, we tried that but for us it always just chips out like crazy. We’re thinking it’s because the veneers are so thin on the hardwood ply we use.

Awesome job! I watch most all videos on 1.5 or 1.75 so your rambling isn't too much for me. LOL I subscribed so I look forward to seeing lots of new DIY tutorials from your channel. Ours are louvered bifold doors.🤮 Hate them. I'm not confident to tackle by myself, but soon I will have my hard working husband on board with my plan to transform our junk into jewels.

Hi, I have bi fold doors. I'm not going to change them to look like barn doors. Can I just get barn door hardware and hang them?

Thanks for the overview and the finishing instructions. The doors look great. I have one question. Isn't a bi-fold door hard to open if the handle is placed on the edge? Doesn't it need a knob or handle placed toward the middle of the door so you can pull on it and get it started?

When it comes to the handles, the style pull we use on our bifold barn doors allows for a pull/push type of hand movement to open the door. It can be a little awkward at first, but not impossible our 3 year old mastered it in about 2 weeks time.

While the door looks great, it isn't a bifold barn door. It is a refaced standard bifold. Bifold barn doors are hung with iron hardware. Had to get ti the end of the video to figure this out. For the round over; how about a sponge sanding block? You could do two sides at once.

Thanks for the compliment, this is technically a bifold barn door (refaced or not). The thumbnail shows no attached rail or roller (iron) hardware, just your standard bifold doors. The door you’re talking about is called a sliding bifold barn door. Thanks for watching!! I appreciate the tip, I might give it a go!

Too much rambling, get to the task. Volume was terrible I had to do cc. Agree this is not a bifold barn door it is a bifold door painted in barn door style.

Thanks for the feedback, we were vloggers before we tried our hand at diy videos so rambling is what we’re good at and old habits are hard to break. Technically speaking these doors aren’t painted, they are veneered with hardwood plywood to look like a barn door, but still function on the bifold door (or pivot door) hardware. Therefore making them bifold barn doors. If you’re wanting a sliding bifold door with a top mount rail and sliders/rollers then that’s a different thing altogether and not what we built in this video. Thanks for watching!
