I agree with you on everything. It's about personal preference and money doesn't really come into play when mudding, you do it for yourself, not for resale. Great looking product.
I typically don’t like gold on watches at all but the one you put together looks fantastic. I went out and bought a Royale today and I picked up the black case, bezel and bracelet with the gold buttons and text. I really don’t like the text on the case but the combo with the red “10 year battery” dial text just works for me. Thank you Shane!
Hey Shane, I love this idea...I have two Casio Royales but am afraid to wear them as beaters because as soon as I scratch the resin face I would be seriously bummed about it....Maybe this is my answer?
Great review. Even just watching the video you can see that kit gives the watch a feel of quality and purpose. Probably not cost effective but this watch caper rarely is. Always look forward to your latest video. Thanks.
Looks great! I’ve seen two reviews of this now and it looks good from here. They have some other interesting options on their website. Might just have to get a Royale and the kit!
I think it's a really good idea,I've scratched my black version to bit's and I know I could probably buy a lot of them for the mod kit price but i think I might get the kit, Tony Stark into Iron man if you get where I'm coming from 😂
That's great! despite my self-imposed rule of only one watch per brand, I'm considering getting this mod kit & another Casio Royale just to have one beater Royale & one "dress" Royale.
0:37 - I kinda wish that the new case didn’t carry over the ridiculous “World Time” and “Illuminator” badging? Like, I already own the watch-I don’t need advertising touting the watch’s features to try to get me to buy the watch that I already own.
A beater watch is my everyday watch ( I work with kids :) ) so sprucing up the old beater with some sapphire crystal would do wonders for the durability of this classic. Awesome mod.
I've got a silver kit on order and really looking forward to this mod. Decided to do it simply for the sapphire and the all metal case. I travel a lot and use the silver AE1200 as my go-to travel watch. This mod will, IMO, allow me to "finish" the watch by giving it the extra protection I want when travelling. Great video! Thanks!
Hope you enjoy it. It's not too hard to put together, and as you say, it really does finish the watch. Gives it a build quality now worthy of it's cool design.
I got the black kit. I wasn’t that impressed with the bracelet. One of the end links wasn’t fully black coated, and two of the bracelet screws wouldn’t go back in without a lot of torque which marked the slots. The bracelet didn’t feel much better than the folded-link one as found on the silver Royale, being somewhat rattling, and too heavy in my opinion. The case on the other hand is very good indeed and sits nicely on the special Vario leather strap which is also excellent. Overall it’s just about worth it, especially with the spare gaskets, tools etc. as supplied.
Love to see these upgrades. The only thing they need is an option to ditch the WORLD TIME and ILLUMINATOR text ... those are the first thing to go for most of us. The Vario strap is also still a winner.
Totally understandable to take a 20+ $ watch and mod it, even with a 100+ $ kit. What i can NOT understand is people getting really cheap cars and spend THOUSANDS of dollars/euros/pounds/wtf to make them better(?) or just to put in CRAZY EXPENSIVE sound systems. Ain't humans the most weird species of all animals? YES!!! Cheers Shane, be well mate.
I don't really like moding G-shocks to a metal case, but this is different, this is amazing! 👏 Love my Royale and this would make it even more of an awesome watch.
Thank you for showing this, now I can consider revitalizing my Royal that I have been carrying around on an off for about 12ish years. I may not have it's original strap but it's still going on its original battery
Got excited for a minute lol. Got an email with phone number to text saying I had won. Glad you gave the details about when actually over and sending your email.
Bottom line, nobody buys this as a beater watch. The F91 is a beater. People buy this because they love it. I'd personally buy a regular AE1200 and put it into the all silver shell. Because the Octopussy watch is what we're really after.
mine has already got a lot of scratches on resin face. I've been having this since it was first released. And it doesn't leave from my wrist aside from taking a shower. This mod is all i need to revive my Casino Royale watch.
Thanks for the review, amazing content as always! Folks, don't forget to check out our channel as well. For an extra seat in the giveaway. Also more content about the kit there to find. 😝
Any relation to the Kranio Design guys? It's definitely a better value for money than the Kranio Design case, although those are made by basically one guy with access to a CNC machine. Right now Kranio is workin on releasing a machined bezel insert with a ripple pattern. Their case also looks different than the original, so it's more noticeable. The SKXMOD kit is a stealthy upgrade for Royale lovers.
@@RelativeTime they do. Except one (search button) that wasn’t working before) which is why I took the movement out. The world map flashes black if I push the lower left button, or the display makes no sense, or it advances to the count down, or shows the time at 12:00. If I hold down the adjust button it only lets me set the 12:00 time with no am, or pm. The watch is like 20 years old. I’m thinking maybe I’m not resetting the (AC) correctly. I’m going to take it to the Watch Maker. Might need a new battery. Perhaps I’m doing something wrong that’s simple. 🤔 Or it’s just finally time to throw away/retire…
I love your eye for detail with Octopussy with Roger Moore playing in the background. It remains a miracle how the Casio Royale got famous because of a movie called Octopussy with Roger Moore wearing a Seiko watch!
Wow so cool I have 3 royals. Bands NATO plastic .. it would to be awesome to mod one mine .. I do watch you video's. Good options you give I agree with most.. keep the good work
Holy... It's fantastic, need to get one. Shame that there's no shipping in my country at the moment & I can't take part in that giveaway . . So bracelet is much better than stock? Thanks for review Shane
Looks awesome! I'm thinking this casio royal mod might be a nore intersting alternative to getting a Gshock dw5600! Desperately need a beater watch for work since I've been scratching my watches in my new line of work.
I haven't been so excited about an aftermarket mod in a looong time! 🤞🏼 'cause this would be a pretty sweet prize and most certainly garner more wrist time for my AE-1200 😁 #RelativeTime
Hi: Great video and gracious offer to enter the #giveaway. Question... Can you use a product like Goo Gone to remove the lettering on the aftermarket case to give it a less cluttered look ?
I have one of the Kranio Design stainless mods (available through their IG site). It is also an excellent construction with sapphire glass and a cool new dial available. I got the entire thing, including the watch itself and a stainless bracelet, for a little over $200. Of course, if you're into modding, the kit seems cool, but I'm all thumbs with that sort of thing.
A 2 piece NATO black and gray Bond strap and removal of unnecessary print is the way to connect “Royale” with “The Spy Who Loved Me” Seiko with this Casio impostor. By the way, there’s a Timex that looks way closer to that Seiko. I’m wondering why nobody has mentioned this.
They said they tried out a milled clasp at one point. But they didn't feel style wise it worked with the thinner links. Which makes some sense, but I'd still prefred one.
Wow this is great! Maybe I missed this one but that's a great mod. Love it. My wife might think I'm crazy with it being 5 times what I paid for the watch. But still. It's worth it!
Hello Shane, 5:17 "They recommend their screws, not the screws that came with the watch". Is this because their screws have metric threading? Or are they just wood screws as on any other Made in Thailand Casio, only their version of these? If they have metric threading I'd say there's clearly an added value to this mod. Nuts and bolts are far more reliable/durable than a metal wood screw that basically drills itself into plastic. Best regards from Belgium
That is one of the tricks with this mod. You are using the same seals, and caseback so it "should be", but SKXmod doesn't test it and won't gaurentee it. Mostly because your doing the work yourself and they don't want to take responsibility for something you may do wrong.
Unfortunately, there is no confirmation of the waterproofness of the case, no one mentions it in the videos, but the price of $100 for a modification that does not have a waterproof rating is way too much. The original watch in a plastic case has 100m waterproof rating, the $100 metal case has no confirmed waterproof rating. This may be important information for those who would like to purchase a modification.
To be fair, I don't think I've seen any mod company list water resistance on an aftermarket case. Although I'd have to double check. I think this is partialy due to the fact that it requires the end user to install everything correctly (including seals). So they don't list it at all, just as a way of avoiding the issue. That said, it would be nice to know if they had actually tested everything in some capacity. I'll email them and see what they say.
@@RelativeTime They wrote me back that they didn't have time for full testing, and there is no confirmation of waterproofness, someone dived and reached 70m :) but somehow I don't believe that someone put on a modified watch and dived to 70m :) time under water for a diver is too important a parameter to take risks like that.
Hmmm.... If they said 70 feet, I would believe it. But 70m is a bit much for a random recreational dive. As it takes some specialized training and skill. At 70ft I could see someone randomly taking it with them just for the heck of it. Worst case, it's $20 for a new watch that you can swap the movement over to. It's still possible, but I'll email them later and see what they say.
@@RelativeTime I can't hide the fact that I really like the modification of this watch and would love to buy it, but unfortunately $100 for no waterproof confirmation is too much. They wrote me 70 meters for sure.
