Looks good. This could be useful not just for music production, but also for DJ gigs. When I plug the iPad to my DJ controller, I have a stand for it, but I also have to plug my Hyperdrive hub to the side, and the iPad otherwise is a bit exposed. Gonna give this one a closer look; thank you!
A second USB-C port would've been nice yet I would imagine I could use my USB-C hub into that and the iPad... I just need to stop being too picky. Thumb upping the video due to the work it takes to make the reviews. Cheers.
Looks nice but I’m currently using a stand for £20 with a £30 hub Velcro’d on the underside of the mounting plate that has 1 extra USB C and 1 extra USB3 and the same other ports for cost less than half the cost and I have the flexibility of being able to remove the hub from the stand. So I think the price is a bit high for this.
Great video as always but this stand/hub looks like a very cheap copy of the Anker 551. I will trade the magnetic mount for a gravity one (because one advantage is the ability of not only using it for not only iPad pros but any iPads from the mini and regular too) anytime in exchange of ports located in the base instead of the part between the base and the iPad making the setup looking like an octopuss!! 😄 Plus the fact that you need to actually finish the manufacturers job in assembly is ridiculous for that price. Anker has it done for event less. And the 551 takes as much as 100W so a lot more to not only power your iPad but also power your interface and midi keyboard also.
I’ve tried various setups like you, and you got me on the “magnetic”. I can’t help feeling this is essential compared to my cheap crap that wiggles around all over the place. 141 quid though? Now that has given me pause.
Looks good! And good review! For productivity, its essential to have a Power delivery port, especially in a desktop setup. This has solid 60w one. As for the Headphones Jack, better not to be there, as any serious producer or hobbyist uses their audio interfaces, and these can interfere with them. The only headphones jack I know with acceptable quality ( outside of proper audio interfaces ), is Apples own dongle! And did you know we can use an extension on Usb Hubs? I have all my mess of dongles and hubs far from sight, and when I arrive with the ipad to the studio I just connect the extension cable. Still my prefered solution, for studio and stage
Thanks Patrick, just took up your Amazon link offer and it’s being delivered soon, another great video and hope you get a small commission pal x cheers again
First time viewer. Hello from America! After finishing the video and reading through some of the comments I caught myself subconsciously reading all the comments in a Patrick Baird accent. 😂😂 Loved the video, sir! Looks like a pretty solid product, albeit a small concern on that wiggle room for those USB ports. But Definitely an intriguing buy. Well done on the review!
Thunderbolt would be nicer on the Pro’s I’ve several Thunderbolt 3 NVME’s I’d use with ipadpro. Thankfully I have my OWC Hub for my Macbook. I too have a similar stand for my iPad to the old one you showed from Amazon. Guessing the lack of Thunderbolt ports is to help keep price down
Is it possible to plug an iPhone 14 Pro Max (or any iPhone) into this product with an adaptor, even if it looks a bit wonky? I don’t know if the company makes one that’s iPhone sized, but knowing whether this stand for iPad can accommodate an iPhone with some minor tweaks could save people some money if they own both devices and don’t mind using a slightly larger stand with an iPhone. Can you test this and see if it works? The info might help a lot of people. Thanks! This seems like a great solution!
Im having one huge issue apple and it’s music partners created ATMOS audio yet never made a way for iPad creators to make atmos music files and that’s something I’m looking for
Hmm looks too flimsy and delicate. 10 years ago there was the alesis io that allowed you to plug in everything . Guitar, keyboard and a mic. It was absolutely brilliant,we’re still awaiting an updated version. This seems to be a step backwards and not one forward .
The Alesis was designed specifically for music production. This is more general purpose than that. I know what you’re saying though, Focusrite made a similar interface/dock that was amazing. Still have mine, but it sadly doesn’t fit current iPad Pro models.
Great looking stand! Oddly enough, this stand isn’t available in European Amazon shops and the UK shop won’t ship to European addresses 😂 On the other hand, from the US shop, not a problem.
@@TheGaragebandGuide one of those multi input dongles, the brand is LDLrui. the ipad is lined into the dongle then that goes into a powered usb hub, which also powers my interface that carries the ipad audio out. it's tough to pinpoint the weak link but i'm pretty sure it was the dongle.
I bought something similar for £90 and within moments my £1500 iPad Pro fell on the floor. I sent it back to China and that was four months ago and I still haven't received my money.
@@TheGaragebandGuide After 6 months I got my money! And then a month later, I got a package with the damn stand in it! It had gone round the world and was returned to me!!!!! Go figure.
The problem isn’t the form factor. It’s the well documented lack of reliability of 3rd party USB-C multiport adapters. Virtually none can be trusted no matter the cost. Gotta pony up $70 for the apple adapter and just deal w it.
@@TheGaragebandGuide Yes they do. Jakob Haq even made a whole video about it and the forum post is filled with similar stories. A few people claim to not have issues, but most people do, including burning out the port. I had problems too. Don’t want to waste my time. Sucks cause the Apple adapter doesn’t even have a headphone jack. USB-C is a mess.
@@TheGaragebandGuide just doesn't seem right... I'd be scared of all the data getting wiped. Im sure they've done their homework and shielding would be designed to protect chips. Nevertheless I'd want to do my best to keep strong magnets away from all my hard work saved on those chips.
@@CharlieFricke thanks for letting me know, i didn't know that. I don't have a magic keyboard. Yeah as i said I'm sure they've done all their tests however i cant help feeling overly cautious about the issue.
I love my iPad and have too much invested to even try to take my case off. Even watching your video, you dropped it 😢. My iPad is 10.5 inches, so it’s definitely not for me.
