By pointing a laser at a mirror that was glued to a balloon I stretched over a speaker, intricate cymatic shapes can be generated using synthesizers, guitars, music, drums, or the human voice. This set up was inspired by Steve Mould's video. I spent dozens of hours playing with different variations of sound waves, intervals, and chords and never stopped being astonished at what was showing up.
I was able to use this simple set up to make a music video for an electronic psychedelic trance song that I made. I have no skills in visual art, so it's really great to have a process that generates neat looking stuff for me!

I can not deny! Your contribution made this video possible. I don't think you want me calling you the Balloon Boy though, that'd just be rude.

This is an absolutely awesome video!! Ultra creative content! Going to try this for sure, love how the geometry always lines up with sonic sensibility. 1-4-5 so powerful. And the tune sounded close to the music of Ozric Tentacles. Well done.

How loud did you have to have the speaker? I tried this but the patterns being projected are tiny, even with my speaker on full blast.
@SignalsMusicStudio
@SignalsMusicStudio 6 лет назад
Hmm I had my speakers on full blast but they are very cheap speakers and couldn't go that loud. Maybe experiment with how tight the latex/balloon is wrapped around the speaker? Or maybe try Steve Mould's technique of putting a bluetooth speaker in a bowl and stretching a balloon over that.

Signals Music Studio Right after I posted this, I tore down that whole setup to try something else. Turns out that my issue was that whole membrane. I thought I could use a bit of seran wrap, but I guess it's just not flexible enough to really move the mirror. I stretched a condom over the speaker (closest thing I had to a balloon) and now it works like a charm.

1:57 how do I make my images this large? When I tried this with a bluetooth speaker the image was 5 inches wide, maybe.
@strangething4322
@strangething4322 3 года назад
All I can think is try to move the speaker as far away from the wall/ceiling as possible? Edit: Check this vid out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eskZ3OORfYM.html it seems that increasing the volume will also result in larger images.
@anotherperson956
@anotherperson956 3 года назад
@@strangething4322 Yeah I just don't enjoy making it uncomfortably loud for a small change in size. My guess is that a larger diameter speaker and a larger balloon from what I have would help a lot as well. Either way it is remarkable to see in person.

It's weird that I've somehow never seen this video of yours yet! I thought I'd been through the whole collection! If you haven't already, check out Nigel Stanford's "Cymatics" video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q3oItpVa9fs.html) for some great music visualizations. (Also his Automatica video is pure awesome (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bAdqazixuRY.html)).

Easily replicating Lissajous is find your stable frequencies open different tabs of frequencies as you sweep find stable ones start with your basic stable circle first them start stacking frequencies your second third and fourth, more than that they're hard to keep stable but dile them in and you can basically get them frozen and some other super weird and Interesting shapes

I've been studying physics through the lens of the aether theory, which basically states that everything in the universe is composed in a fluid-like electromagnetic medium. The theory can explain dark matter and joins gravity and e=mc2 back together, split by Einstein; who came up with his theories after the famed aether wind Michelson/Morley experiment. The reigning theory of the time was aether, but the MMX "disproved" the theory, which spun the scientific community into a frenzy. The problem was that their experiment didn't account for the Earth's magnetic field. So, it's an invalid study, which means aether is still a valid theory. Anyway, the theory doesn't really explain particles... until you add cymatics. The idea is that the speed of light is an electromagnetic constant, creating resistance. If you oscillate the aether medium in the gamma frequency (or lower), your oscillation doesn't create any resistance in the medium, but higher than gamma frequencies can. So, due to the electromagnetic properties of the aether (right hand rule, magnetism, etc), the feedback oscillation can create a static nodule (particle) in space. If you look at the order of cymatics and combinations of frequencies and overtones, you get 3D bubble-like structures that can hold charge and can react to or generate radiation. The ordered cymatics set would be the bsseline order for particles. Thought that was interesting to share. Hmu if you're interested to dive in further
