The sound sensitive mode is impressive! It actually looks great in your shop. Here's an idea: It can be an illuminated progress bar to 250k subs (followed by your next milestone..) and you could probably program it to actually fetch data in real time.. How come the power supply is so big? Is it because it offers multiple 5V out?

Amazing! But One thing I can suggest you is that you don't need such a huge and heavy power supply as it would generate a lot of heat and therefore loss of power. You can easily substitute it with a led driver 12V 2A (2A is more than enough for that length of led strip) or you could use any power adaptor 12V 2A (The onces that are used to power up electronic devices like wifi router etc) Which would be cheap and compact.
Very cool lamp! The time put in is definitely worth it and it's something I'd be proud of. I'd swap out the controller for an ESP32 running WLED as the effects, including sound reactive, are nuts. I've built three strips so far. If you build more you can sync them up. Remember you can solder the strips directly together at the cut points to keep the spacing. Love your channel!

I started watching this Sunday morning here is the problem......I'm not watching ANYTHING you do half awake because I ENJOY your work. Here are a few things I wanna share.....I was a CNC machinist, subtractive manufacturing, I did a little 3-d printing......additive manufacturing......what you're making, did you notice that the base was tight? That's because no matter what is made you always have to machine parts for a correct fit. I'm not sure in metric but your base is probably +/-.010 or close to a sixteenth of an inch which is why it was tight. Did you also notice you had to cut something out on the inside?? Always my line of work comes after making it. Next time you make a base ring on that like your 3-D printer make the base diameter 1.587 metric which is about 1/16 of an inch bigger and it will fit better HOWEVER I freaking LOVE your builds and my watching your channel WILL NOT STOP
Dude this is incredible! IDEA: if you could decrease the wavelength/frequency of the light patterns in the lamp I think the the effect would be even better and more well received by others. Please let me know if it’s something you can do! Would love to see the difference
Try just setting it to a solid orange. Something dim and calm, orange light is the best light for your eyes and it creates a comfortable environment. I used orange LEDs along my ceiling and i love it.
For anyone making this, the power supply should connect to both the Sp107E and the led strip itself - preferably to both ends of the strip to minimize voltage drop through the strip. The SP107E can not handle all of the current for that dense 5v LED strip passing through it.

Really cool lamp 👍 I've got a bunch of old blank CDs I bought a long time ago. I was looking to recycle them, but this gives me another alternative for a future project. I've just got to learn how to do some smaller electrical work.
ngl as someone who loves music and art, im a little sad that most of the music on these cds is probably lost forever now, and i would have loved to listen to every track, find my favorite ones and essentially have a completely unique playlist to bring on car trips and the like, but what you make with them is just as much art as they themselves were and it turned out pretty cool so

PLEASE NEVER EVER connect loose wires to a powersupply like that. That creates high resistances which can cause FIRES at 20A! Use some crimp connectors and save your house!
On the bright side at least he soldered the high amp connections to the power supply to lower the resistance. Idk if he meant to do that but it’s better than nothing. I agree with a crimp though, but I think for not being an electrician he did a pretty good job. Also did he say it was 20 amps? I assumed it would be 2 amps or so since it wasn’t a high powered project.
@@gavinshaffer6220 To be honest soldering a screw connection is way worse than bare copper. Solder has the potential to cold flow and increase the resistance this way. 20 Amp is very plausible, those addressable LEDs take a lot of power. Connection anything but a proper terminal to such a power supply is absolute malpractice and can and has lead to fires... Even if the voltage is low at 5 Volts, 20 A is a lot of current.
@@BigManko I have some very similar LEDs to these and they run 2.5 amps. These might be different at higher power but I don’t know to be honest. And some types of solder are made for higher currents, if they are higher currents. I’m not a professional when it comes to soldering specifically, I’ve don’t more welding to be honest, so chances are you’re more correct on that part. I am also from the US so I don’t know what amperage comes out of his wall, but my house does 15, which is a little bit less. It also looked like he soldered more on the outside of the contact, and left the actual copper plate untouched, meaning the soldering is more just to keep the wire tightly in place (which obviously isn’t usually needed because the screw does it just fine, as seen by how you wire up a house reciprocal).
As a dutch person born in the 80s I have to make the obligatory comment: the CD hole size is based on the pre-euro 10 cent coin. It *just* different enough to make you doubt yourself when trying to find something with the right diameter. Very glad that cdroms aren’t a thing any more.
I think yonlu nailed it with what could come of that many CD's. Our kids have something similar for their rooms called a Govee Lyra. Enjoy the content as always!

A bit like a Tesla coil with the upwards movement! While you were building, I was thinking of like a mixed medium with wood... like a solid wood pole about a meter tall, followed by about 1/3 meter of stacked CDs and each CD is separated by a thin slice of wood so light can come through, then a wood thick wood top.
You look much more at home with the 3D printing projects mate, so much more creativity and awesome here than another YT chopping board ;) Fits awesome in the office, top stuff.
It reminds me of the lights on a jukebox. The bubble tubes. Or a lava lamp. I think it is marvelous. The space between the CDs is perfect. Just another example of a project that would have been nearly impossible without your custom printed pieces. How would you source spacers? What would they cost? The base is brilliant. Imagination made Real.

First I love it, 3 ideas, maybe change it so it's 2 lamps, next 3d print of a blank black cd shape with a tab attached that has a hole to slide down and give support and last since it black pipe you could add a small speaker on top, while music plays the light responses. Great job

Me too. Not sure if i like this. 😄 But that project will fuel future ones. Although I might add, if I had a workshop or my space that would definitely fit right in. With my Lcd display key holders and Old tv turned into faux window. Like casey's shop. Things he makes wouldnt be nice in a living room but his workshop is a museum.
Great project, I really like it! I have access to a stack of cds too, although to date we use them for deterring birds on the fruit trees. Pity you junked all that clear perspex from the jewel cases - surely you could have come up with another stunning project for them.

I feel like you could've printed a bracket to attached to the pole, might have been a more elegant and sturdy method to attach to the pipe, especially if it was in a statement colour 🤔
I stopped the video at 3:21 so I don't have any idea yet what you are going to do with the CD's. But the jewel boxes can also be used for many projects, especially the acryllic part of it.
Cool project man, but definitely work on that soldering, get the proper tips/tools, looked like definitely cold joints on the first attempt, and even the second. nice job. i think a clear acrylic tube would have saved you from having to wire it to a pole and gave it more structure but still allowed the light to come through.
