I was given this Camellia Sasanqua as it was the runt of the pack of three that we had on our patio. For some reason, this one didn't flower, so it made it's way to me to turn into a bonsai tree. Can it be done and will it survive? Wish me luck!
If you are interested in the root hook that I used, send an email to Matt over at ‪@bobcatbonsai‬

Another great video Gavin. It's always worth experimenting with different species and methods in bonsai. I just noticed 100 subscribers too! Congratulations mate 🎉

Halfway through the video! Camelia is starting to look lovely and has great potential (in my non professional opinion 😂) Nicely done Gavin! Also a suggestion I reckon it would be great to do a time lapse of the coco in the bucket Ha I was going to ask if you took any cuttings,I've just taken cuttings of a pear. I just noticed congrats on the big 100 subs!! 500 next

Thanks Dan. Hopefully it does recover and becomes a nice tree! A timelapse for the coco mix, now that's an idea! Yeah, I couldn't help myself, had to take a few extra cuttings! 100 subs, it's amazing! You're not far away from this target either! Keep growing!

Missed this! I look forward to seeing how this one develops. As Jason has already said - get the big leaves off the sycamore for that second smaller flush. I have 4 or 5 mame at the moment. I love the car - must be in Peckham :)

No worries Xav, thanks for commenting. Yes, Sycamore aren't the most popular tree to bonsai, but as they grow so readily round here, why not try something different with them. Absolutely, long live Hooky Street!

I have a couple of the by sycamores growing as mame trees. Their initial leaves tend to be huge but if you cut off the leaves through the petiole or leaf stem once they have hardened off then there will be a second flush of much smaller leaves.

Thanks Jason for the tip. I have a larger Sycamore that I am training as a bonsai which I will use this on.

Did you say Jerry Springer? I replayed. Yes. Are you a fan? BTW. Hello, I'm from the US. I recently discovered your channel. I like.

Hi Paul and thanks for commenting. Yes, I filmed this shortly after Jerry's passing and as a fan I have always felt that his well known phrase "Look after yourself and each other" is a very important thing to remember. So, where abouts in the US are you from? Cheers and thanks

@@NotAnotherBonsaiChannel I was surprised when I went to London a few years ago and saw Jerry Springer on television there. I didn't know he had a following in the UK. The things you discover when you venture from your homeland. I am originally from Louisiana. I've been living in Houston Texas for about 30 years. The summer heat has kicked in today like someone opened a working oven door. I am also a plant fanatic too. I am constantly moving around potted plants to prevent them from getting scorched from the summer sun here. Cheers to you.

Hi Paul, It is quite surprising, we do have a lot of US TV shows over here and back during the 90's Jerry was quite a star. I think for a short time he did a British version of his show too. Sounds like quite a challenge with your plants and the intense heat. I've never been there myself, but it seems like Texas can't be an easy place to grow plants what with the intense summer heat. I would imagine succulents and possibly ficus would fair well. Over here in Sussex on the south coast, the summers are hot, (but not Texas hot) and the wind can be a problem. Best of luck with you future projects. Cheers

Hey Gavin you created a nice Branch structure for a future bonsai. I have a camellia plant for over a year and it has only blossom3 flowers I've noticed that something must be eating the flower buds before they can even develop I can't find no bugs on it?
@NotAnotherBonsaiChannel
@NotAnotherBonsaiChannel Год назад
Thanks Matt. Maybe that was the case with this one, but for a strange reason the other two always flowerd just fine.

acidic soil wouldnt hurt that tree one bit

You aren't wrong about this, however I prefer Coco peat as it's inert and you can control the acidity levels with fertiliser
