Very nice work, Chad. I love the cameo appearance by the HF tools. Good job

Forgive my ignorance as I am a newbie to woodturning. When you reverse mounted the bowl to clean up the tenon, what sort of mount was it that you used? Was it a vacuum mount?
@ChadEamesWoodWorks
@ChadEamesWoodWorks 2 года назад
No vacuum chuck, it’s just butted up against a block/pad and held in place with the tail stock. I hope that helps!

@@ChadEamesWoodWorks Thanks Chad. The tailstock must be pressing plenty hard to keep everything in place. I'm just starting out on the lathe. I think I'll have a go at a few more 'conventionally' shaped bowls before trying the square-ish genre of bowls. Well done. Love your work. Those bowl gouges are difficult beasts to master. I have one but being a newbie, I feel a whole lot more comfortable with carbide tipped chisels. Onward and upward ...!!

It just needs to be snug since I’m only removing a small amount of wood and not putting any major force on the bowl. This is the way I finish the bottom of almost every piece I turn. Thanks for watching!

Was this green wood?

Yes, it was green wood.

@@ChadEamesWoodWorks how much do you have to deal with your sandpaper clogging when sanding green wood? I'm guessing that's what the brush on the paper was for?
@ChadEamesWoodWorks
@ChadEamesWoodWorks 2 года назад
Yep that’s what the brush is for. If it’s super green, I let it dry some before I sand. Even if it’s just for one or two days, so the surface isn’t really wet. Usually I wait longer though.

Try pushing the bowl gauge straight in instead of side to side…cuts much faster and easier
@ChadEamesWoodWorks
@ChadEamesWoodWorks 2 года назад
Yes, you are right, it does. However, on a square bowl that’s generally not the best approach for managing vibration and/or finger safety. Thanks for watching!

Start with a small one. Even a piece of 2x4 can be used for practice. You'll get it!

When I turn similar bows, whether three corner or four corner, I always take some blue painters tape to highlight the corners of the wood. This helps keep from busting your fingers on those corners that otherwise be hard to see while spinning. Good suggestion on going from center of bowl to outside in turning wood to help keep this from happening.
@ChadEamesWoodWorks
@ChadEamesWoodWorks 2 года назад
Yes, that is a very handy trick. I don’t usually do it but I should. I get caught up in the turning and before I know it, I’m done with the corners and hogging out the bulk. I think I did in one of my square bowl videos to help the camera see the ghosting effect better. Thanks for sharing!

@@ChadEamesWoodWorks All it takes is once. After that it becomes second nature to mark those corners; living though experience.
