very well explained thanks for sharing, i always seem to learn something new from your videos. the tool rest way above center to clear the bed of the lathe was a keeper.

John...This is a great video that I've watched four or five times. I'm trying to improve my over-all beading but I do all my work on bowls. Question: Will the skew in conjunction with the spindle gouge method work on the outside of bowls? Essentially, I'm trying to figure out a way to create beads that doesn't involve a scraping tool. I have the Sorby beading tools but I think I've been using them at too much of a right angle. I see you using the 3-point tool and I must admit I've been stymied at what purpose those serve...you say in video that you would use the 3-point tool technique for the outside of bowls. You don't get tear-out with that? Any help you can provide would be great.

not realy great. everyone can scrape beads with a 3 point tool.
