Turning Bifold Doors into Cafe Doors and a simple BIFOLD DOOR makeover

Learn how to convert a set of old bifold doors into cafe doors on cafe door hardware. I've also included a simple bifold door makeover with moulding and paint. Bifold doors can be such a pain because they never stay on track! I've shared an easy solution for this- replace bifold door hardware with cafe door hardware (some call it saloon door or butler door hardware). This puts the doors on a swinging hinge that stays shut when not in use.

They look great. One thing you could do to mask the uneven top edge might be to add a shallow valance across the top.

Helpful video! We bought a bifold door we’re converting to cafe doors for a separate commode area in our master bathroom. The original owners of this property didn’t install any door for this private space. We’ll install the cafe doors to swing one way (out into the main room since the commode area is shallow). We were using a curtain to cover this space but the look is tacky. (Edited for typos)

I’m interested in doing the same thing so first off thank you so much for this video it’s extremely helpful I’m a widow so I’ll be doing it myself can I do it so that the door is open out towards me?

You could also glue a shim to the top of the right door, then caulk and paint to be even to the other door. Also on bottom of the left door 😊

Cool video! Wondering if there's a way to turn bifold door into an inswing French door set? Or would this basically be the same as what you have done with cafe door? I only need them to open in one direction, but i like having them stay open in that direction like your cafe doors do

I guess to be more specific, i would want them more to be doors that click closed, like with a lock or door latch. Your video is the only one I can find with anything inswing. I have a 32" passage that i want to use a bifold like two skinny little french doors on that open inward and I'm stumped!

@@jh8379 You should be able to find hardware that swings in only. Then I think you would do the same thing I did but the hardware wouldn't swing out. That's what I would do.
