Turning cardboard into art 

This guy is amazing and it took a while to convince him to let me film him. It was worth it though and the result was well-received.

I read that a true artist MUST make art and he/she will use whatever material they have available.

I would LOVE to see an extended version, like a full documentary, I would pay to see it in a heartbeat...this cat is the 'real deal', super talented...

I love cardboard, almost as much as my cats love cardboard. It has a soft warmth and a gentle, soothing colour. Very underestimated as an art material.

My gosh this man is an absolute genius with this cardboard. It looks like polished wood that shows the grain. Should be in museums.

Love this, what a talented artist. When I was younger and had little money for art supplies I would use cardboard, masking tape glue , paint and some jewels from broken costume jewelry to make crowns.

Wow Johnny! this dude is for real! you can get raw materials anywhere with this . an artist like Vincent made his best pictures of a glass of water or his shoes , everybody loves the night cafe or the sunflowers but his best ones were humble.

artists are ones who make something from basically nothing, a blank canvas of any sort. and this gentleman has taken what is basically a throw away product and make wonderful art.

His work in incredible! I feel like using a better glue than hot glue may give his work better longevity and I think the unpainted pieces shown here are more sincere and will get him better attention as an artist.

With that amount of realism I kinda feel he can replace his long lost leg with a cardboard and no one will realize...

Cardboard is my favorite medium to work with. It takes to paint and is limitless in its creative potential.

He came to my school during activities week in avout 2004 and he spent the week showing us his techniques. We made our own cardboard heads and it was great fun. He also loaned one of his works to the art room and I remember this giant head being in the classroom for ages. He was also a lecturer at the local college when I did art and design although he taught the next level of course to what I was doing. Really great guy and very talented. I think I'll save the next few cardboard boxes and see what I can come up with.

When I was in prison we would make all kinds of crazy shit out of cardboard, especially furniture like dressers.

First impression of first seconds... he's the Glue Gun Man! -- there's a flick I thought was called MANNEQUIN, from the 80's, but I found it recently and it's not the one... where one character tells another "...ooh! What he can('t) do with a glue gun!" Or, maybe it was a stapler, staple gun? (Toaster oven? A jar of mayonnaise and a box of Q-tips?). AAHNNNNNNNYway..... ya, that came to mind. HA!

Losing is not a negative,gaining is not a positive…..Yin & Yang. Two forces that balance together……Fulfilment and purpose man strives for in this world. Many think possessions , wealth are the true and fulfilling…but remember,you can’t take it with you! So is it True? Others find happiness and fulfilment in daily strive and struggle, you take happiness and love with you! Fantastic Johnny. Love the positive approach to life in general and in particular. We did this in art school here in New Zealand as well. Building faces in life drawing classes. So we had a model and were given a bunch of materials to work with to build something out of basically nothing... That was fun, but I had no great success at it. I like your approach. It makes sense... now that it is 10years after art school. LOL
