I lost a sweet companion a couple of weeks ago, it's still a shock because she was with us for 13 years. What helps is to focus on the good times we had. Sorry you lost Popeye.

Popeye was such a lovely boy, I'm so sorry you had to let him go. It's always a shock when a seemingly healthy pig is suddenly on death's door. But that means he didn't suffer a long slow decline that eventually overwhelmed him. We'll miss you, Pops.

I'm so sorry you lost sweet gentle Popeye. You changed the lives of so many piggies and gave them all the love they could wish for, I'm sure you made the right decision when you decided to let him go. I admire you and all the people who have so much strength and work in animal rescue despite the pain it brings whenever one of the precious furry friends passes on. Gus is such a carefree little wild one. I'm sure he's confused now, wondering where Popeye is.

I am so sorry 😞. Losing them is so hard. I just lost one of my girls after stone surgery. She couldn't recover. Looking back I wish I hadn't done the surgery. I caused her pain and suffering. All we can do is learn and do what we think is best at the time. Sending you big hugs ❤️.

You gave Popeye a lovely life after his bad start. Your words are so profound. I have been sitting with my guinea pig Elfini on my lap, eating celery , tomato and cabbage. I understand so much what it is like when a guinea pigs dies, but if they have had a long life, as with Popeye, it makes it not quite so bad. I always cut a little bit of their fur before i bury them, to keep in memory of them, as well as all the photographs, of course! Who kisses their guinea pigs most?You or me???

I did that after few weeks of putting my dog to sleep. I had to do it when I least expected it. It's been hard for me but I always think about giving love and care to another animal that needs it in the name of the one that parted.

I'm so sorry for your loss of Popeye😢💕. I lost a lot of pets in my life. But last year Was extra hard when I lost 2 piggies within 3 months😔💔. One Was my soul piggie and it was the vets fault he died, in a very tragic way at another vet to get a second opinion...It still hurts but I gave 2 other piggies a home with me.

Dear Scotty, I also lost my dearest guinea pig this week. She was with me for 5,5 years. She was the smartest guinea pig I had and had ever seen. She would run up to me and stand on my feet to demand veggies :P. And when I was done working she would start wheeking from a distance. She was very smart. Anyway, I also found her suddenly wet beneath one day and she had little trouble walking. Turned out she had an infection on her vulva. I treated her with antibiotics and she seemed to be recovered. Unfortunately it returned later and she also got a lunginfection. We upped her antibiotics and I did everything I could for her. Unfortunalty she got worse and worse and the last two days I saw my sweet little girl struggling for air. She was always ready to eat, but for the first time she didn't eat anymore. The doctor said eventually that we had to let her go, otherwise she would be suffocating. She also felt something in her belly and didn't felt good. I had to let her go, but I miss her so much. Never knew you could love an animal so much. The emptyness and sadness.... The guilt, could I have done even more? But I want to thank you for your sad video. I recognize your sadness and it makes me feel like it's oke to be sad. It makes me feel less lonely somehow. Thank you so much for sharing your story. Big hugs for you and cherish you beautiful memories of Popeye.

Scotty, I'm SO SORRY!! I know saying that really doesn't take away the pain and the shock, the sense of loss, it's terrible! The only thing I can say is that it's wonderful the way you're talking, that Popeye had an enriching life, Gus is still well, and you're giving so many guinea pigs a safe and happy home, good care, companionship with other piggies, and NO MATTER WHAT, you're still a success story!

Scotty, My beloved first Guinea pig Oliver passed a few days ago from a sudden respiratory infection at age 5. I have felt guilt about not realizing he was sick earlier as I was not very educated on signs of illness in Guinea pigs, and didn’t take him to be seen until it was already severe. I have since learned that Guinea pigs hide their illnesses well until it’s bad. It sounds like that happened with Popeye too. I also have a cage mate, Harold left. I will be getting a new cage mate for him soon. Also monitoring his health closely. Thank you for this video as it makes me feel less alone and more positive. I love you forever Ollie! I believe all of our pigs who have passed are playing together now and can connect with us.

I am very sorry for your loss, it's so hard to lose a pet that you love so very much. I also wanted to say thank you for this video. I have a lot of grief that I have been trying to deal with, it's not about the lose of a guinea pig, it is about my sister, she passed away this December 18. The one thing that has been helping me with my grief and gives me a lot of happiness are my guinea pigs. About two weeks after I loss my sister, I brought three little guinea pigs, Their names are Peek-a-boo has long black and white hair, Sweetie-pie has short brown and white hair and Cuppy-cake has long brown, white and black hair. They are each about four months old now. I love my little piggies so very much. Chris has also been helping me with my grief and for Valentine's Day he brought home an adorable little guinea pig for me. I believe she is about four months old too cause she is the same size as my other three piggies and she has long fluffy white hair, I named her Doll-baby 🥰 I really enjoy watching all of your videos, they help me to learn so much about guinea pigs that I never knew before.

I'm sorry for your loss. My beloved albino, Bean died on my mothers birthday a few months ago. I looked after him, until his passing. But it was still devastating, because he was my comfort pet. But the best I could do to honor him, was to adopt a new piggy to keep his buddy company; his best friend, who'd been raised by Bean. All we can do, is give them the best care, and shower them with love, and make sure they pass peacefully; whether that is until their last moment, or to end their suffering.

Scotty, I am sorry for your loss of Popeye. I am feeling it with you because last week my tiny skinny pig, Star, died from overgrown molars. Every vet I called either didn't do molar trims or didn't do anesthesia on guinea pigs. I couldn't get help anywhere. She spent her last three nights crawling under the blankets in bed with me to stay warm.

I understand. All my piggies come to me with part or most of their lives lived, so I am regularly saying goodbye. The piggies are little life gurus that have taught me how to deal with death. They are very pragmatic. The dead are gone, we are here. They must eat. I must care for them. For a while, you just go through the motions in a numb way because it simply must be done. Time is the key, and eventually you find balance again. Imitate the pigs. Like Dory said, "Just Keep Swimming" Nothing else is necessary. Incorporate any lessons learned, accept that all is transitory. Eat your food, then clean your bowl. Life is hard sometimes. Just awful. But if you continue on the right path, joy returns.

I'm so sorry for the loss of Popeye, all of us who got to know him through your videos feel it with you. It is a deep sadness to lose them. I have an area on my property where I can return them to Mother Earth, and plant flowers in the spring. As I watch my flowers bloom (where they wouldn't before), I know that my beloved babies are contributing to the ongoing cycle of life. I find some comfort in that 😌

Sorry for your loss Scotty. You gave Popeye a great life, a good home and even a piggy friend. You did well! I lost my Joe 2 months ago. It can happen so sudden and it is the piggy that is left behind and misses their friend that I feel the most sorry for. I have only been able to find my other pig a neighbour, he wasn't compatible with the others as a cage mate.

Oh Scotty I'm so sorry for the loss of Popeye. I pray you get through this. I just lost my Coco! I woke up to get ready for work and went to give him his morning treat. He was just laying on his side looking peaceful, but he had passed sometime in the night. With no warning at all. He was 5.3 years old. My heart breaks for you. 🤗 Hugs.

Gus is acting so silly and squirmy as if he wanted to distract you from the sadness and cheer you up. 🥺 I'm very sorry for your loss. I think grief is hard to deal with because it wants to be felt so bad. Lots of loves, Scotty. I recently lost my tiniest girl, Pizza, to an inner ear infection that wouldn't clear despite tireless efforts. We decided to put her down since she was just too weak and suffering far too much to be living a happy life. She'll finally get to snuggle with her sister, Gigi, who passed suddenly back in October to what we suspected was a bowel blockage. The grief is so strong, but it makes me put so much more effort into caring for and loving my remaining girl, Ellie. Thank you for sharing with us 💗

So sorry Scott. I just had to let one of my piggies go last Saturday. He had advanced Satin Syndrome. I know my Oreo and your Popeye are in a better, painfree place, but it still is hard to let go. Hugs... 💕

Saskia knows that I had an almost 7 year old Female piggy named Oreo, she had Ovarian Cancer. I kept her comfy Fed and loved the last month, Mary's CBD Cream was our God Sent. Nov 28th 2022 she got very very I'll barely moving, so I called my Granddaughter over to be with her and us. The next morning I found Oreo laying inward In her Favorite Sack. I had her Cremated and shared her ashes with my Granddaughter. We both have Beautiful Urns and are with her close to us. 2 months now and I'm still crying and miss her💔 She really had a Great Personality! Reese's misses her protecting ways and Peanut picks on Reese's less now that Oreo isnt there to push Peanut away from Reese's. Scotty I'm Hearty Sorry for your loss. 💙 I felt like I couldn't take care of Reese's and Peanut after Oreo passed away. I was too depressed and wanted them to be gone!! That night I knew they had food water Hay Pellets so I didnt go see them. The next day I couldn't LOVE THEM MORE.......I'm always holding them speaking to them and Caring loads for them. Health Checks nail Trims all of it. 💙 Feb 9 they are seeing the Vet as they both have a teeth issue and I'm so scared I'm about to lose them now too🙏🏼

I feel the same about piggies who have health issues where they likely will keep being sick, I have been through it and it is a real tradgedy.

There is no right way or wrong way to grieve, nor is there any time limit for how long you should grieve and no-one has the right to tell you otherwise. Gus seems to be coping fine; perhaps he knows something and celery cures all woes! As guinea pig carers we unfortunately probably deal with death and loss more than most. In my life I've found that grieving by remembering all the good times and positives negates a lot of the feelings of sadness and self-pity. I like to bury piggies I've lost in the past and plant a rose over them as a memoriam, knowing that in death they are helping a thing of beauty to grow (the thorns also deter scavengers from digging them up). Sincerely sorry for your loss. You gave Popeye a good life and he'd want you to carry on your good work.

Knowing the love you give all your piggies, I know you made the right decision for Popeye so he didn't suffer. This is so appropriate for me right now as grief and loss are so very hard to deal with, my dad, who was always cheerful and happy sadly died last Saturday at 87, it was the right time for him given his illness. But my sadness and loss is immeasurable as we always had such a great relationship, however my piggies always make me smile and lift my spirits and are truly helping me to celebrate my dad's life who also loved my piggies. Thank you Scotty for sharing this experience and hoping Gus finds another buddy to enjoy life with. Look after yourself too - apologies for my ramblings
