I noticed that petting them briefly a few times during the day without picking them up will make them less anxious.

I have had 20 piggies over 24 years and they are all different, bit like Forest Gump says "you never know what you are going to get" 😂. I have had piggies that followed me around the house on my heals and piggies that have chosen to sit next to me, on the other end of the scale i have had nervous piggies and pigs that hate to be touched. I just accept them for who the are and hope to win their trust with time. ❤

I got Ginger when she was small enough to fit through the bars, by her third birthday she had completed her evaluation of me and decided to be my piggy.

I find that all piggies are different, and learning how they work, the same as people is the best way to work out how to tame them. My piggie Merlin loves cuddles and Cinnamon's love language is food!!

Yeah, some guinea pigs just aren't too big on touch. Most of our guinea pigs are always up for a back massage and love interaction. We have a couple who run when you try to pet them or only like their heads to be touched. Just got to respect that and recognise who likes what

I see people on tik tok saying their pigs hate them all the time and most of the time they’ve had them for less then 6 months LOL. I always tell them I’ve had six boys and only 2 don’t run away and will sit to be scratched, after 3 years of owning them. They all have different personalities and they are prey animals! Only my super social boys let me pet them. Most of them grab the lettuce and leave haha. I wish people didn’t take it personally!

I agree on the simularities with dogs part: Every time I sit down on my couch, my boy Avi will stand on his hind legs begging for a pea flake and will happily lick my fingers if I put them inside the cage. All he's missing is the whacking tail. He's more like a cat when it comes to touch, accepting ear scratches 50℅ of the time. It took months to get to this point though.

I have 4 3 love cuddles one pep hates being cuddled he'll tolerate about 5 mins ..cuddles ..the others fall asleep. On me ..but the all great having nails cut which is great

The biggest thing for me was working out how to pick my piggies up so they feel secure. One of my piggies was biting me. When I figured out how to pick her up correctly she stopped biting me. My 2 piggies have very different personalities. I love the fact they're piggies and not dogs lol My piggies love conversation. They're at their most confident and outgoing when they can hear me talking. So when I hold them I make sure to talk to them.

Yes, a good video! Not everyone understand that they are prey animals. Meaning they don't really have much to protect themselves with like with for example a dog. It's the best feeling when they finally feel safe with you. A lot of people will never understand my love for guineapigs, but that's one reason why channels like yours is so important too so they can learn more about them. One of my best memories of being a guineapig mama was the first time my Itachi decided to lay down on my lap with a big yawn and sleep

Having the guinea pigs up on a table is a MAJOR game changer. I wish we can make the rest of the world understand that guinea pigs are guinea pigs, not dogs, not cats, not monkeys etc It sometimes feels no matter how many times we tell people this, some just don't listen to reason.

I'm relatively new to being a guinea pig mama...I bought my two female piggies (Mitten and Fluffy) when they were 3 months old from a Pet Smart store. I originally bought them for my for my kids ( 11 and 15), but they were too much for them. But I fell in love with them them. They are still very skiddish and I feel so bad when I have to catch them to take them out of the cage...for cleaning or cuddle time. I am learning and they are getting more trusting of me...I just have to remind myself that it's only been about 3 months. You videos have been so helpful...thank you.

Fact: piggies need a little time and much care that maybe not everyone and most of all, us adults, has nor wants to give. My females were docile and even friendly. But not one was more friendly than my first (single, yes) guinea pig. And I had wanted a dog! A little crazy when first left to run in the tv room, then to the kitchen from the garden, my little fur potato would snuggle up to me when reading on the floor, I could hold her for hours in a towel, with good spatial skills never lost.

That's probably why these males are like they they are we just spent a lot of time with them and are smaller cages with giving him treating them their special treats. And and them allow us to pet th3m.

All my guinea pig like to sleep inside of my shirt except one. Peanut does not like to be held. I've tried to see if she'll take to it but she jud won't accept it. That's just the way peanut is I guess but thats okay.

My one pig loves my husband he hardly ever picks her up though. She runs from me though but not him. Whoever doesent pick them up.. they unfortunatly like more..

My guinea pigs genuinely HATE being handled. I don't say that word lightly - we have to wear leather gloves to be able to handle them safely, as one of them in particular *will* bite and will bite *hard*. She's bitten through gardening gloves in the past. I've resorted to only handling them when absolutely necessary, i.e. for nail clippings or vet visits. Is it what I envisioned when I set out to become a guinea pig holder? No, but it means that everybody is less stressed overall, including myself.

I love your videos they are so informative! I got 3 little boys (2 twins 5weeks and a small 3 week boy) and they get along great, the twins actually bicker more with eachother than with the little one. Is there a reason that you have only paired males and no 3 are together? Should I be worried that one day one of my males may be rejected by the other two or is it normal as well for 3 boys to be bonded if given plenty of room? Either way I am prepared for the outcome, but I am hoping my 3 baby boys will grow up together and stay together as a trio permanently ~~

Hey Scotty, Bengal! Frosty loves me, especially when I have a treat for her! She just lost her cage mate and I worried so much about her mourning. She did the first few days but we have been giving her as much attention as she wants!!!!❤❤❤❤❤

Oh Scotty, this has to be one of your best videos! So true, when I got Harriet, especially at Petco, there was only what they said, what they recommended, and only what google said about the her as a skinny and care. Oh and from what others who had in the past. Even when I started to find guinea pig groups, overwhelmed as she wasn't acting and doing what they said their's were. Even eating and I felt horrible and such a bad piggie mamma! I knew though, for her best to keep looking and found you and Saskia! You taught me to get to know Harriet and yes, first prey and everything else in taming falls into place. The thing is, spending time to know Harriet's personality is what is the bigggest factor. Respecting her and having that relationship has made such a difference. We have fun, but she will let me know, no mamma, don't want to and I am o-k with that. Giving her love, treats is half, and caring and respecting so she can live a long life is knowing how to talk to her too. You taught me that too. Such a bond! Knowing how to sooth, knowing when they need to pee and poop and need to go home, all in how you learn, not in listening to other opinion, but learning care and you do that through all your videos. Harriet and I thank you!

I wish I could share a picture of my 4 males at as they are not typical males they like to lay out in the open and sleep. Plus they share cage for males very weird. Also some my females do too but not as much as these guys

Believe it or not, I have trained my piggie, Browny, to lick my finger when he wants to go back to his cage. I did this when every single time I pick him up, no matter how long I've held him, 2 seconds or 2 mins, the minute he licks my finger, I immediately put him back into his cage. Over time, he has learned that if he licks my finger, I will put him back. So now he tells me by giving me kisses, that he's ready to go back to his cage. True Story ✋...

What happens when you need to pick him up to check his health, or do nail clips, or any other number of things? There is a way to tame your Piggies without forcing them. I hope you will at least consider some of the techniques in the taming guide and taming playlist.
