Good morning all!
In this episode, Jeff gives us a tour of his hand tools. Although Hand tools unfortunately don’t come in to play In a commercial cabinet shop as much as one would hope. You can tell that each one of these tools has a specific role and place of importance. I hope you enjoy this episode and that it reminds you of how satisfying it is to work with a quality hand tool and only hear the sounds of a sharp iron slicing through wood fibers.
Happy woodworking, Jon

When I first saw the title, I was thinking tell me it isn't so! But then you put my mind at ease. I've never seen a mortise plane before so I learned something too. Bill

I've really been enjoying your channel lately. I'm a fellow tool junkie and just bought my first Lie_Neilson plane. I'm mostly a power tool guy myself but expanding my horizons. Cheers, Scott

2 questions :) 1.) how were the dog holes cut on the work bench 2.) what is your sharpening technique for hand tools (I suck at sharpening) still lov'n the channel btw
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen Месяц назад
That table comes like that, definitely the easiest way. I use a hybrid of Rob Cosman’s and the Lie Nielsen technique. Check out both videos, they’re great.

I think the flash cut saw has a set on one side only and you’re supposed to use it with that no set side down if you know what I’m saying correct me if I’m wrong but that’s how I use. My flush cut saw there is a downside Stamped on it
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen Месяц назад
I have seen some like that but this one has zero set!

Lie Nielsen makes nice stuff, But I have been collecting and using Stanley planes and tools for 30 years, now, I like the old stuff better, and it used to be a lot cheaper, but the prices have gone up the last 10 years or so.
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen Месяц назад
If you have the skills and patience to restore them that’s definitely a good way to go. I barely have the patience to set up my LN stuff and that doesn’t take very long.
@oliver299d
@oliver299d Месяц назад
@@TodaysCraftsmen I haven't had much issue with the stuff, I buy the stuff thats 100 years old or so, so it was made well back then and is still flat, it's generally just sharpening which takes about 15 minutes or so the first time with a an iron

Which one hand plane do you think every woodworker should have? Maybe a block plane for clean up? I am curious of your opinion and experience. Thank you for your video!
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen Месяц назад
Definitely a small block plane to start! I like the size of this lie nielsen over their more traditionally sized block plane.
