Ohia is a very popular wood in Hawaii and grows everywhere there. They grow into enormous tropical trees with very twisty branches. Most commonly used for carving and turning. This particular piece is really nicely figured. Most Ohia I’ve seen is more blond and not very interesting. Great score and beautiful bowl! 🤙🏼

I knew I liked the piece from the inside shots, but holy cow! does that pop in the sunlight!! The way the reds brighten and the blue deepens yet shimmers more is wonderful.

Doug!! Another video!! Looks like you're back! I love that bowl. I literally finished a cherry crotch piece the same way but with blue and white pigment, and created a live edge look to go with it. I call it the cloud bowl. Your prior works have inspired me many times. I hope you keep the videos comming. Thanks for sharing with us.
