That reset button next to the on/off switch is what made mine finally work. I took the tray out by lifting up a little and sliding it all the way out to see the on/off switch underneath, but the part where I used a pencil to reset the Ice maker is what started a tray turning sequence that ended with water coming down a little chute in the top back, and filling each side of the little ice cube tray, and when it was done, I slid the big ice tray with the spiral metal part inside all the way back into position, and eventually, it made ice
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!! I spent so much time trying to figure this out. And your video is the only one I found that has the same set up at as my fridge 😅
I pulled mine out partially, just enough to reach the buttons, but I have small hands. Was afraid to pull it out all the way and maybe not be able to put it back in. Yeah, you push up the bottom and it slides out. Stupid design to put the on/off switch there.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I spent close to an hour with the Owner's Manual, it was just Greek to me. This was very clear - the video and the answer to the Q about how to remove the drawer. Thanks!
I just got mine also~~~~~WP-21 cubic-SidexSide. You only have to open the plastic type door to ice tray and you can see exactly where to turn on ice maker.
Hear hear. The only "arm" I see is the white plastic one which is sort of elbow-shaped and pointing toward the rear of the fridge, but it seems to be motorized and if I force it I am afraid I will break it.
This is great. Really helpful. Could not find this info anyplace, including Whrlpool websites. Question: You say to remove "the white plastic door" to reveal the on and off switch, but can you please explain how to remove that big white door with the tray and auger attached to it? Is it as simple as just pulling on the door and tray to remove or is there some place your have to press or grab to get that door and tray and auger off safely? Have had my fridge only 1 day. Seem to be able to find and figure out all the other basics so far, but that ice maker and tray is an issue. Can't get at the switch to turn off ice maker. Thanks in advance.
QUESTION, Can anyone tell me how often this style Ice maker should drop ice? Even after resetting it several times I only get one tray drop in several hours. NOTE; the instruction label on the ice bin is wrong NOW 4 13 2024 and it was wrong a year ago in this video, where the label shows the wire arm that should be down to run, but if you pull the actual plastic arm down you will break it because there is no wire arm control. I am really regretting my Whirlpool purchase to replace a Kenmore we loved for 12 years.
We just bought this and its easy fix...remove the ice tray cover Turn off the ice maker for 3-5 seconds. Turn back on. Too the right of the on/off button there is a reset button. Use a no. 2 pencil, eraser end up and push up on it. The ice tray will rotate and the arm will move going through a diagnostics test. Once its done, water should spurt into the ice tray 2x. Replace the ice tray cover. Hope it works for you!
Super helpful. Wish I had seen this video first when looking for the ice maker switch (I have the same model fridge). Now then... where is the ice maker automatic shut off arm which the manual says can be flipped up to temporarily stop making ice? I only see the little plastic arm but it feels like if I try to force it to move it will break.
Got a question when you pull the drawer out the little rod on the bottom of tray that slides back into the hole does it have anything on it when you slide it back into that little square hole might does not just a sorth of hook on the end of rod ?
Did your make ice I just bought a new one was wondering how long it takes to make the first patch of ice it has not fill the ice tray with water yet it may have to wait till it fully cold before it will just curious
Thank you I cleaned out my ice tray cause the I replaced the filter so I wanted new clean ice and I took out the tray and threw out old ice but for somehow it hasn’t made ice for about an hr so the bottom switch was on left side so I turn it to the right hoping it will make ice now
Pretty sure you got your answer by now (7 months ago) but you lift the drawer slightly from the front and then slide it out, placing a hand underneath the drawer as it's quite long and maybe heavy if full of ice.
Mine is on but it doesn’t make a full bin of ice. There is a full line indicator on the ice bin but mine only fills up half way. Not much ice in bin. Yes my switch is in the on position
I had my refrigerator hooked up by my plumber yesterday (for the water line which I didn't trust myself to do plus I needed a new flexible one). Even he couldn't figure it out. We could see the switches but WHY did they put them there? Stupid design. And the manual I have is for 5 different Whirlpool refrigerators. Mine wasn't even in there. It's useless. There is no Help Line # listed, no one tells you when you buy it how it operates (they don't know either). I got mine at Lowe's and none of them are appliance experts. And the delivery guys don't know anything. This video was helpful, but I didn't take the drawer all the way out. I was able to pull it most of the way and since I have small fingers reach the buttons (you can try that). Thought I had it turned on but wasn't sure. But I did and now I'm getting ice. Also, just an fyi for anyone buying the new energy efficient refrigerators. They take ALL DAY to get cold. No one tells you that either. Mine was delivered at 8:00 AM, wasn't cold until 7 PM. Had someone told me that, I wouldn't have suspected that maybe something was wrong with mine. It is very quiet though, I like the looks of it, it slides very easily. I think the drawers are flimsy plastic though. Has PROS and CONS. Thanks for the video, it helped.
I bought this refrigerator twice (slightly different model #) from different stores. The first one I figured out the ice maker reset and that seemed to work but it made ice so slowly. Not even 1/2 a bind in two days. It’s also made most of plastics so I doubt it has longevity. I live in Florida and like ice in my drinks. So I called them and they said I have two options. 1- they will come and swap it out 2-I can call the manufacturer to come check it out as part of the warranty. I called the manufacturer and the told me 3 weeks before they could schedule me in and if it wasn’t covered my cost would be $175. I call the store back and said come pick it up which they did. I guess I should explain when my older refrigerator went out I was one day home from a knee replacement surgery. Couldn’t be worse timing for this to happen. My 10yr old Samsung was a good refrigerator but we had a power outage and it didn’t turn back on.Because of my condition I just said buy a new one. When the second refrigerator was delivered by a different store everything worked about the same. After the left I discovered they never leveled the new refrigerator. I called the delivery guys and told the and the said call the store we are to far away. So now I’m waiting to see what goes on with this ice maker. All this for a stupid refrigerator.
Mm, no, not in this instance. The manual lists 5 variations with no indication of which one is for my actual fridge, and while it technically refers to everything properly, it fails to indicate which piece inside the unit is what.
