Hi Devin... Thank you for showing us how the ice maker works in action. I don't see this very often in repair videos, and it helps in understanding what may be going wrong to produce the symptoms that I see. Very helpful.
instructions worked like a champ for this type of LG refrigerator and Ice maker type. Pulled out the wife's hair dryer and thawed the Ice tray for a bit. Hit the reset button and now waiting for correct Ice to be made. Thanks DurbinCompound
Devin! You are my husband's hero! Thanks for helping make my family self sufficient this evening. I was able to find your video and your recommendation worked! It saved my husband a headache and thwarted my attempt at getting a replacement fridge.
Thank you so much for the step by step instruction on repairing the ice maker! It worked like a charm and now I have ice again. I had torn the freezer apart the day before and never saw the Reset button! I used the hair dryer, removed the existing ice form the tray, pressed the reset and Voila! Up and running. I will share that the reason mine froze up is because we had some items on the very top shelf of the freezer that were blocking the cold air vent. Caution everyone, keep those vents clear from obstruction. 😀
for some having trouble still locating the reset button underneath we took our phone and made a picture of it. Does help because you can barely feel it underneath. You saved a marriage dear! No more arguing about the icemaker it works because of you! lol!
This was extremely helpful. My ice tray popped off. I was trying to find why water was leaking and this answered everything. Tested and fixed successfully. You are wonderful. Didnt even have a condensation issue.
Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!! I knew about thawing out the components with a hair dryer, but I had no idea about the reset button!! This has been driving me crazy for months!! Your video saved the day!!
I figured that was the issue but I had no idea there was a reset button, so this helped immensely. You can use the same trick if the fridge stops cooling-- there is a damper door between the freezer and fridge to regulate the air flow that sometimes freezes shut.
Problem solved in about 1min under a blow dryer, thanks. Genius problem solving technique!! It explains why in the past it stopped working and then worked again without doing much, I must have inadvertently thawed the system out trying to diagnose the problem :-) Live is good.
Worked beautifully! Didn’t know why it wasn’t making ice anymore… But tried your hairdryer trick, and the parts began to work again. Hit the reset button, it went through its cycle and began filling the ice tray. Thanks for the help.❤
Hi. From SA here. Out of all the online vids, urs worked. I looked everywhere for the button as most vids refer to it, ur vid showed me where it was and boom....it worked. Thanks Bud!
Thank you! Saved me $300 when a service guy came and said after 2 minutes I needed a whole new unit for $300. Even my husband couldn’t figure it out and I solved the problem with your video !
Many thanks for a very clear and helpful video. My Kenmore refrigerator ice maker was frozen. In 5 min. I used the hair dryer, then pressed the rest button, and it began working. Your video was a lot better than many others that go into far more complicated reasons I didn't need. God bless you for posting this!
Had similar issue, after leaving the freezer drawer open for a while for cleaning, I guess condensation built a thick layer on top of tray and would not dump the ice. After pressing the reset button and the tray flipped I just manually forced the ice out of it.
Hi Devin, thanks for the very practical video your suggested hair dryer solution work for me. A majority of other videos on you tube on the subject take the it's broken replace it route, and show how to perform a replacement without any attempt to troubleshoot the problem. Your's differs in that you actually show what the test mode action is, and offered an explanation and suggest fix to solve the problem without spending $ to buy a replacement ice maker. Very much appreciated.
Wish I could give you more than a single thumbs up, but I'll leave a comment so YT knows this is good stuff. The hair dryer was _exactly_ what was needed, and after a couple of presses of the reset button, the tray spun around, spun back, then started to fill. Yeah!!! Thanks, man!
Just watched your video. My icemaker was not working and I noticed the tray was tilted and arm up. I used hair dryer to remove any build up and then hit reset switch under arm assembly. Worked almost immediately. All is good, Thx to you
Thank You! Not a single manual or bit of advice from LG helped at all...hell, I couldn't even find, or even know about, the reset switch based of of LG support. I don't know why that was a secret. My ice maker was identical to yours and a hair dryer fixed it quicker than it took me to buy a hair dryer!
I was an appliance repairman for years. The companies want you to call their techs out so they make money. I worked for Sears, and it was a nightmare for even US to get the manuals. Samsung is the worst offender. The companies say it's a "liability issue", but I've literally seen with my own eyes it's all about the 💰.
Thank you, thank you, for the really good video, and showing the reset button! That was all it took, pressing the reset button, to get the icemaker to work again. Thank you and God bless you!
You just solved an issue I have been having with my Samsung RF260, bottom drawer freezer and ice maker. I could not figure out how that arm worked or if it even moved! Also I see why the ice tray is so thin, it is to allow for the flexing to dump the ice. You can never see this operation in a bottom drawer freezer, with your video I was able to see how everything works. I just replaced my icemaker as I wasn't getting any ice, but the real culprit was the fill tube, it was freezing up, apparently it has a heater which stopped working. As I had to take out the ice maker to be able to disconnect the wiring harness on the fill tube, I ordered both parts from Amazon, working fine now. I will keep the old ice maker for spare parts. Great Video.
This worked for my LG fridge. Not even 2 mins with a blow dryer on the mechanism that the arm connects to and tray dumped after pressing the reset button. 10/10
Ahhh, I see. I have a new Hisense refrigerator bottom freezer model And the arm is in the up position, it seems always. But now I see. The arm only comes down prior to dumping. The Hisense support rep knew 0, about that. Thanks 👍 All the refrigerators ive ever worked on had a nice regular ice makers with the metal arm and flip out ice dumpers. I can't see this lasting more than a couple of years at best. Thanks again.
thanks Devin my ice maker stopped making ice 8 years ago and I tried many things to fix it but nothing worked I never knew there was a reset button on the bottom I just pushed it and instantly the arm went down and the water filled the tray that was all it needed !!
This was very informative and helpful my ice maker wasn't for a couple of days I was just about to call a repair technician. Any videos on replacing a water filter on the same model?
The water filter is super simple. I order my filters off of Amazon. They spin off, about half a turn and drop out. Insert new, spin tight to the notch, use the water until it runs clear. About two glasses. The filter is in the fridge. Top right.
I’ve been a tech for about 4 years now... if you do use a heat gun or a hair dryer... BE CAREFUL. If you warp the cavity... you will more than likely cause an air leak and you just caused a bigger issue. If you want to do it yourself... use a steamer.
Hi thanks for the video. I would like to ask you is the metal part below is supposed to turn true? My is very tight and it’s not spinning. No ice is coming but it’s making ice. Any suggestions
Great description! Does anyone know what is the 3/8" plastic triangle piece on the hinge that hangs off the arm and catches on the ice tray sometimes stopping the arm from going down? Mine keeps catching the tray and I am afraid to remove it, because it is obviously there for a reason. When it catches, the tray does not release the ice because it thinks the ice buck is full. Thanks!
The problem in mime was the water line was frozen! I had to use the hairdryer to thawed the line, once it did the line started flowing water to the tray again.👌😎👍thanks for the tutorial though!
I'll tell you what, that helped me out immensely. Unfortunately though, that led me to the problem. The reason that the ice maker doesn't work is that the fill hose is leaking at the inlet in back. We lost power for a couple of days last big storm and it must've froze and split. So in the morning I'll pull the back off and replace it. Is there any chance that you did a video on that repair...
Hi Devin. Thank you for your videos. Can I ask one question? My ice Maker Sankyo works when I press the reset button but it does not turn by itself to expulse the ice. What sensor is not working?
Thank you!!!!!!! You just saves me 500. The LG technician told me that the ice maker need ti be replaced…. Yeah sure 😒! I’m shock of the lack of ethics from this company or person, he did do NOTHING to try to repair it or at least identify the problem.
Doesn't the arm stay down and rise up as the ice raises up and then eventually shuts the unit off? Or does the arm only move down right before it is read to dump ice. If the latter is true how often does the unit send the arm down to measure the height of the ice in the ice bucket?
Hi Devin, according to LG ice control arm should stay in down position after emptying the ice tray, in your video it stayed up. Which is the right position for the arm to rest. Mine is staying in up Position and my ice maker keeps on making ice even after the bucket is over filled, I have to empty it in the sink at least once a week. Regards
We have a Whirlpool side by side refrigerator with a similar ice maker. Our problem is ice forms on that plastic arm and about every 5 days it freezes up and won’t make ice. We take a hair dryer and melt the ice off the plastic arm, dry it off and it starts making ice again. Is there anything we can do to stop ice from forming on the plastic arm?
very good video. I want to know if there is a video on how to change the ice making system, because it does not rotate, apparently the part where the test button is is loose or broken.
Yes you should turn it off when the bin is full. What you can also do if you don't want to turn it off is dump the ice into a bag and keep it in the freezer.
Thank you for making this video! I have an LG with the same ice-maker, and I thought the cube tray was broken, as it tilts down on the left side. Your video shows that this is the default. One question: when the tray gets refilled with water, it looks like it's still low on the left side, so how does the whole tray get filled?
@@TheDurbinCompound Mine overflows a little bit on the left where the hose is. I've read on a troubleshooting forum, that this may be caused by too much water pressure. The solution offered was to slightly close the water valve at the wall to reduce the flow. I'll give that a try.
Thank you for the video. In my fridge the reset button push ice down to the bottom and then it fill the drip with water again. My issue is that after the water becomes ice it is not falling down never. What could be the problem? Thank you for any advice Ciao
Ehi thank you for the video. WHat do you think...i did that but the idea maker keeps stucking (upside down...or simply the arm) and does a loud TOC TOC TOC TOC noise...for a long time...do i what may be the problem? thank you again
I watched your video and thank you for airing it. My frig is like 2 1/2 years old, Whirlpool. I did the hair drier, but I have not reset button, so I don't think it is going to work. It has not been working for 2 weeks and have already had it repaired once!!!! Not happy with this refrigerator at all!!!!
My kenmore freezer drawer wont push in all the way, the ice maker is poking out and i cant close the freezer door because the ice maker is shut fully. A long wire with spring twisted on it keeps hitting the small rectangle and it blocks it from closing fully. So the little rectangle lifts up and down so i lift it up and put the wire spring under it in the rectangle.. but everytime I pull the ice drawer open to grab more ice, the spring wire pops back out again. Do you have any idea why it hits that barrier and doesnt close properly??
I have the whirlpool refrigerator gs2shaxss01 side by side and I noticed the ice is making icicles and dripping down the right side of the inside door. Any idea why that is happening? thanks
I’m having to repeat this process. It’s works for one tray. Then seems to freeze again. I took the assembly out for a while to make sure it wasn’t frozen. Same problem. Any suggestions.
Great video, worked great but the ice under the water spout keeps getting stuck. The cube doesn't fall out of the tray and then the water runs all down the the side. Any idea why?
