Welcome back to Motorcycle Rewind, where we breathe new life into vintage motorcycles and fuel your passion for the classics! 🏍️
In today's episode, we're diving into an emotional and exciting project: restoring a Honda CB77 Superhawk that hasn't been on the road for years. This motorcycle holds a special place in my heart, as it belonged to my dear friend Howard Dorris, who sadly passed away.
Howard's love for motorcycles was contagious, and I couldn't let his Superhawk collect dust. Join me in my garage as we embark on a mission to get this beautiful beast running again. From spark plugs to carburetors, we'll be working through the challenges and learning together.
But this project is more than just wrenches and grease. We're honoring Howard's memory by giving this bike a new purpose. Once we've got it running, riding, and looking pretty, we'll sell it and donate the money to charity in Howard's name. It's our way of keeping his spirit alive and spreading the love for motorcycles.

Really cool motorcycles. They had such great styling. Honda was trying out things with the 305’s. All three had different frames.

Absolutely!!! Those custom pipes are awesome and way better than original.. Matter of fact, I was in Thailand and I saw very similar pipes on a new Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, and they also looked awesome. Again, way better than original. the rest of the bike, i vote for original as can be. Thank you. Love the channel.

I like the exhaust that’s already on it. That is awesome styling! As far as color, I’d have a hard time not going red, but between black and white, white is not as common, so that’s where I’d go. To be fair, that bike could make any color look good, as long as it’s uniform.

White paint with a bronze frame. Saw a restored RD 350 a few years ago in this colour configuration and it looked awesome

That 305 Superhawk looks just like my first bike. I was in the Air Force and needed a simple way to run back and forth to the base. I took it apart and repainted the black. It was such a dependable motorcycle. I miss that bike. I should have never sold it, but when I got reassigned, I could not take it with me. I would like to have that bike back. It has to be gloss black. Good luck with the build. I look forward to seeing it all fixed up and running. Ken

Great little bike. Yoda would proud of his Jedi padawon. I dig his homemade mufflers. They remind me of my triumph 650 mufflers. For some reason the audio goes to crap when the bike is running. As far as painting the bike. Black or white, both good choices. Lighter colors are a little easier to deal with (they don't show mistakes as much as black) but you seem to do black pretty well well. Either way it'll look great.

These are awesome. You would think that after nearly 200 videos I would have this audio worked out😂. When I pressured washed the bike it decided the bike has decided what color it wanted to be. Thanks for watching.

@@motorcyclerewind i think it's electrical interference from the spark plugs firing. They can mess with audio... but for some reason it doesn't happen with every bike. (I believe it's the same thing with car spark plugs, they would interfere with the car radio back in the day. They eventually changed to a different type of cap I think.) Maybe it's a sign that it could use new spark plug wires and caps.

So it looks like the headlight bucket, fork, frame, tank, chain guard, and shocks should all match. That's the primary color of the bike. Personally I prefer red, 2nd choice black. All the Hondas I've owned have been red. Don't know why, it just worked out that way. But it is Honda's color. The fenders and side covers should match and be silver...greyish. Not really sure what to call it. The rear fender might be the original color, the front fender is definitely not. Someone sprayed black all over the tank side covers; those should be chrome with kneepads like your other Hondas of the same period. Hopefully that chrome is still okay under the black. Looks like you need to source some kneepads unless they're in parts bins. I think this will be an awesome vintage motorcycle when you're done!!! Cheers to you and here's to Howard!

You are correct sir. I have to go back and rummage around for the missing bits. Chrome side covers, chain guard, headlight, left side cover and air boxes. This one is going to be fun.

All but black, that's so depressing colour. Guess that spacer has been a creative idea but hard to get tight. Should have tried a softer Material as Aluminum to seal it? Erm, and pls no browns, greens or Munsters lilac/purple (atleast as solist colour) too, same "happy" colour, ty... xD
