No one gonna talk about the absolutely stellar story that Sam came up with for the first character?? Like I’d genuinely like to see that as a piece of media???
there’s this tv news reporter who reports on their own murders, i think Rotten Mango has covered this case but i might’ve remembered wrong lol, it’s a pretty interesting case
Agree. Sick, awesome drawings but that dress is 1990s. 1890s had corsets that came up to the bottom of the shoulder blade and would have a minimum of an upper arm flounce as a sleeve. 1930s fashions were cut on the bias so had a slinkier fit and required straps.
Jessi has more of a 1920s-1950s look rather than Victorian but her design and Zaeynan’s is amazing Sam did a great job at making them villains it’s amazing
15:36 I could even see Zane becoming MORE dedicated to his original goal--but with a twist. Zane realizes he's been targeting the wrong thing. Instead of weapons, he should be targeting the greedy corporations who make them. 'Weapons will never cease to be made so long as there are people still willing to use them.' So, Zane starts assassinating the CEOs of each rival company and anyone who takes their place, until they're too scared and disorganized to re-group, and he can buy the company and run it the way HE wants to. And with each company he acquires, he turns their weapons against his next target. His competitors realize his plan and team up to fight back, encouraging an arms race between them and Zane. But it's too little, too late, and once Zane kills all the company heads and owns them all, he's free. Free to dismantle all every weapon they or he has ever made and used. And once he does, he is vulnerable to revenge from the co-workers and relatives of those he killed. And with his mission complete and no weapons to protect him from their furious hands, Zane falls.
I just wanna say Sam your art has inspired me to draw more. I stopped for a long time and was convinced my art sucked. Thx for making me love my art more
I LOOVE how you just ad-libbed the whole story of Jessie, and when you draw her eyes and face (brilliantly, I might add) we already feel all that drama inside her! You got mad skill, dude. In storytelling too.
I love how this video highlights the importance of having a rich story behind your characters, especially villains. And turning heroes into villains adds a depth to the villain that a lot of people wouldn't otherwise think about. Villains and heroes are just people! And people have both good and bad in them. It's their choices that earn them their titles.
like seeing more people actually giving their OCs stories, seen a lot of OCs that are pretty flat story wise, tends to detract from the character, and it really shows when people consider the story in the design, adds depth and makes ppl sonsider the details, 10/10 woop woop
Same! A lot of backstories are just about some type of trauma, and there's no development of any sort. It's, as you said, flat. I really liked the backstories that Sam came up with. They actually had depth to them, and that showed in the character.
The way you come up with the backstories for these characters so easily and add things to the composition that align with the character's personality in such creative ways amazes me EVERY TIME! I don't know how you do it man, how do you get so creative with these? I loved both character's stories that you did and I really wish I can get to that level of creativity someday.
Both of them look so cool in their own way. And i never knew how someone draws in this style like explained in a way. Because you get to see step by step how he does it. I like this drawing style a lot. But also, i think i connect more woth the deaddly victorian british style or this particular old fashion classy style. Feels so classy yet can hold so many dangerous secrets. I like the steam punk a lot too, i mean he looks amazing, but her style has my heart.
Beautiful art and stories 🤩🤩🤩( the style of clothes that the first character wears are later than Victorian times tho ) anyway I enjoyed her story a lot
4:59 When I saw that Sam was looking at my OC, I got really nervous (different username on here compared to discord)! This is an OC design I’m still playing around with a bit, so I wasn’t sure what he was going to say. Even though my OC was not picked, it really made my day when Sam said he really liked the sword design! So thank you so much Sam and great video as always!❤
“There’s no way you gonna have 2 billion dollars being a crime investigator” *batman has entered the chat* 😂 Also Jessi’s backstory is eerily similar 🧐
i used to use kooleen and when i switched to samdoesarts my art literally has never been the same. i would never improve bc of kooleen. it looks so much better now :) thanks samdoesarts
4:31 they're literally the same person. also, having a backstory and incorporating a character's personality traits into just a single piece is impressive! keep it up.
in the first villain depiction, i love the idea of a reflection being different/revealing a hidden side of the character but the lighting being different that the subject defies physics in a way i cannot overlook. was this an intentional choice?
Your backstories for these characters are always so complex and interesting! As someone who writes and does art, the backstories for some characters can really be so dull and monotone and I'm always so happy to hear the ones you come up with! Your ideas allow for so much story and character development, and the art is just as high quality and unique!!
sam this was amazing i only watched the first character for now but like wow the story is amazing like i don't understand how you came up with that so easily and the art wow she looks amazing the blood looks amazing everything is just amazing just wow
Woow! They're both nice drawings and fun stories, but the second one is straight flames. I'm a sucker for mechanical elements, a big frickin weapon arm is always going to be insanely cool and fun to look at and the little green accents to suggest his eyes are maybe biomechanical as well with the face plates.. and the hair and accessories.. it all comes together and looks so so good! awesome video as always Sam, always nice to see you just sit down and do a painting :D
In my opinion there were more interesting OCs in your discord-server than those you picked up, but dude its incredible how you turned them into villains. Its so cool, its so creative, its just genius.
Hi Sam, I just want to say that I love your videos. I watch them since i started drawing and always learn something new. Especially right now i keep watching your videos like 24/7 because I need to distract myself from my last relationship. Thank you for that, without your videos I wouldn’t stop to think about everything over and over again !
As I watch Sam more and more, I finally start to see improvement in my artwork, I always struggled to make OCs cause I relied heavily on references and struggled to make a good backstory, but Sam could just come up with it on the spot. These were stellar artworks, 2 of them absolutely amazing. Good job Sam!!
I'm absolutely enjoying this style of video, would love it to continue as a series even! I love the concept of you taking on OC's and letting them have the light (or darkness in this case hehe) And not to mention the STORY TELLING YOU COME UP WITH??? Steller stuff.
5:23 sam casually pulling out all his beserck storytelling knowledge to come up with the most magnificent concept of a character that I would most definitely watch and or read
This is exactly why I'm subscribed. Bro doesn't just make characters, he makes entire stories and lore. At this point, he should be called the master of characters-
Sir Sam, I've followed your channel for a bit now and I love your content! You, along with a few others, have pulled me out of a recent art block! I have bought a Birb and cannot wait to eventually acquire said companion!❤ Also.... Why are you not a writer??? The fantastic and grounded stories you come up with on the fly are just INCREDIBLE !!!
