thanks! you’ve helped me a lot with my turtles for like the past 3 years. and I’m thinking of getting my turtles a bigger tank since their getting bigger so this video is perfect
Me and my family just got a baby western painted or a red bellied cooter and we were wondering if our tank and decor was good for it! We realized we had too little entertainment and hiding places! They (we can’t tell the gender yet since they are very much not fully grown) are now very very happy!
I'm making a turtle tank for my soon to be musk turtle! I'm getting him as a baby and he will be super tiny, so I'm starting out with a 20 gallon tank. I'm splurging a lot for his enviornment, some turtle safe mosses, and really anything to give him the best life possible. My longterm boyfriend and I plan to move in together within the next year or two and we plan to get a 40 gallon tank then and upgrade everything with live plants and a few tetra fish. He loves turtles, and I've grown to love turtles! Seeing all these tanks gives me such inspiration for the years to come! :))
I really want to collect stuff from nature for my tank. Can you do a video of how to clean/sanitize stuff from outside? It would be so helpful! Love your videos SO much and Niko is my favourite!!!
I'm sad no one replied to you. In one of her videos on her axolotl she talks about the downsides of owning an axolotl. I remember she said that an axolotl is rather passive, meaning it typically only stays in one place a lot of the time and that you cannot touch/handle it like you would with a turtle. It also requires live food, so in just that regard a music turtle is probably easier? I hope you get feedback from someone soon with more experience. Take care and good luck! 😊
The turf in that one tank is most likely made of pvc and will slowly leech chemicals into the tank. As long as the owner keeps up with water changes it should get nowhere near toxic levels though.
Not me watching this video a year later and see my leopard gecko tank in there!!! Water bowl is from stroodies, it's not very big and it's in his humid spot in his tank so he's all good. Yes bioactive, lost all of those air plants now lol but have added in some different arid plants. Thanks for the review!!!❤
I have two map turtles I got about a year ago as hatchlings. Ive had experience with turtles as I used to have painted turtles and I wanted to get Mississippi map turtles because I think they are so beautiful . I keep them in a 40 gallon with a canister and I actually managed to house them with a group of cichlids and they get along well!! (This was an experiment because I heard both this could and sometimes doesn’t work out) fast forward almost a year later theyre a little larger than my palm and are happy turtles! And im happy to expand their tank in the future.
Was watching your old tank cleaning video, was curious do you ever completely empty empty the tank for cleaning. Or is it just maintaining routinely water changes and such.
Im convinced i need a bigger tank yeah its fine for a few months if your turtles smaller with a 10 gallon but once all the filter heater and everything is in there it seems so crowded def getting a 30 gallon soon i think
All of them are my favorite. For right now we have 3 baby red ear sliders in a 20 long. I'm redoing my 75 gallon and waiting to cycle. It has a fx6 and Top fin 110 pro for cleaning the tank. Each paycheck I'm saving some money so I can get a 125 or something bigger. I know I have one female and 2 males. Names is Reachel O'Neil, Casey Jones and Shredder
Totally try tiger barbs. I have had them for almost a year now in with a blood parrot with my red eared slider. They do well together. Pistacio the turtle and Polly the blood parrot are hilarious together
On my tank where the black plastic rim the water level is 2 inches below her makeshift basking dock is on. The water line and she never try,s to climb out she is calm 24,7 unless you sneak up on her even then she will not try to jump out she leaps in the water and swims frantic then calms down and hangs off the side of her dock she's adorable 😂😂
I used to keep turf like that in my tank. You can absolutely get pet safe, non toxic turf. I ended up removing it simply because it got gross and was difficult to clean.
I'm looking after my son's two turtles and they have got very big and at first they only had a ornamental bridge and a light nothing else , so I built a basking platform on stilts that sat just off centre of the tank so the Turtles could swim up either side of the tank , I but in pebbles and rocks and tree bark with skulls of crocodile and dinosaur skulls , I'm now brought a 120x50x50 cm tank and going to change the substrate to bright sand and rocks and a few pebbles tree bark and a new bigger basking platform the two Turtles are Chinese gold stripe , the base of the new tank stand I'm going to put on wheels so I can move the whole thing near to my balcony come summer time so they get natural Sun light .
I love your channel. I have 3 turtles already (yellow belly cooter, Cumberland in 150 stock tub, an African sideneck in 40 gallon) I'm preparing to get a pink belly sideneck. Would I be able to house the pink belly with the ASN provided I get a bigger tank?
Hi turtle girl.. can u do a terrapin enclosure that have a dry place too. I am looking for a guide to do a space for my terrapin. A busking area outdoor and a swim room too. Love to see your idea.
so today I spent a little over $350 on a new 75 gallon, substrate (pool sand) some new driftwood, lights/dome, 110 gallon filter and stuff for a diy stand and I will be either buying or probably making my own above tank basking platform ( maybe from an old 10 gallon and tile undecided) but maybe I'll get my turtles tank setup on the next turtle tank video!
thanks for the awesome videos! we recently joined the party with our TWO new baby red eared sliders. they both appear to be males and we already caught the bigger one bullying and snapping at the smaller one... so we installed a glass divider in the middle of the tank while making sure they both get their own basking areas. we might end up getting a 2nd tank, but wondering your thoughts on keeping them together and using a glass divider so they are able to see each other, or if it would be better if the divider were not see through glass?
Glass can kind of act like a one way mirror underwater...so it may not make that big of a difference. frankly, I'd opt for separate tanks because if you divided the tank completely with glass you'd need two separate filtration systems anyways
@@TheTurtleGirl I agree with the filtration issue if it were completely divided, but I should clarify that the divider does leave almost 1/2 inch gaps on both sides and water does flow through. We also occasionally let them swap sides (not sure if that creates a significant environment change and stress for them or not?). It’s a lot of fun having the two of them (named Sonic & Tails). I’m just trying to figure out if they experience stress from being able to see the other male turtle on the other side. 🤷♂️
I seen another RU-vidr measure uvb light with the thrive upper basking area, with the t5 light 5.0 gives the right amount of uvb for his turtle on top of the mesh. Can you make a video with a light measure tool. I'm interested to see how bad mesh wiring is.
First I am so glad I found you!! I am new at turtles. I took in 2 yellow bellied sliders little over a year old that were not cared for the best. I upgraded to 140 gallon tank! I also found out that one of them is male & one is female 😮. I definitely cannot separate them they have been together since they were itty bitty. They bask together and everything it's so cute. Anyway my question is I read that especially when having a female it is important to provide an area of dry land in case she needs to lay eggs. Is this true? I am not sure exactly how to go about this. I need suggestions or help please point me in the right direction. Thank you for all your helpful information
I'll be real about the tank at 5:30, I think the owner moved the lights for the pic to light up the tank. I move the basking lights when I clean the tank so I can see what I'm doing. otherwise the basking dock blocks all the light.
First, thanks for all your videos! I learn a lot from them. My yellow-belly turtle has been growing a lot the last few weeks and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to transfer her to a kiddie pool as pond-like habitat. Oh! Another thing! I bought the same basking box you are using but my turtle simply don't climb the ramp. Any ideas? Should I just be more patient?
A kiddie pool is great, if you can outfit it with a filter/basking spot/decor/ etc. With the basking area, sometimes they can just be a little shy. Put them up their once, but after that...just wait for them to go up on their own...they'll figure it out!
Preparing a jewel 180 vision (40 gallons) possibly for a musk turtle. Is there another type that will remain small however have full life within the 40 gallon tank.
I have a question I hope you can help me a bit with. I recently got a Southern Painted Turtle 6 days ago. It is a baby at 1.25”. He arrived healthy looking and is active but not eating yet. I tried feeding in tank and separate in a bowl. Freeze dried bloodworms and hatchling food. I am a little worried. He has only eaten 2 bloodworms and a pellet. Still trying and hopeful.
Question so in a lot of these tanks I see uvb dome lights opposed to a tube style. I here people say it has to be tube T5. I am curious whats your opinion is on the Dome style UVB bulb. I has juvenile Musk Turtle BTW.
I have 3 slider turtles in a 10 gal tank now. They are still babies (bout 2 to 3 in.). .I have a 50 gal outside and is waiting for the spring to put them there. Once the winter come around again, I want another bigger tank on the inside. What do you suggest?
Hi there! I recently bought 3 hatchling albino RES. Unlike the usual issue of being too shy to bask, all 3 of mine bask all the time and sleep for most of the day. They haven't eaten since I bought them 5 days ago and I'm starting to get worried. They are in a 3-foot tank, have plenty of spaces to swim and bask, there's a UVB lamp and a typical fish tank lighting light, and I've got a ton of plants. Would love to get your opinion so I can get these guys to be more active and start eating! Thank you so much!
How do you keep your figurines in place? We have a SpongeBob theme with a little pineapple house plus a small SpongeBob and Patrick. Also a colorful reef and his land mass. Problem is he knocks the reef and house/characters around within hours and it looks like a colorful mess. You can't even see the characters and the house is always knocked over.
the answer is....you don't 😂 my turtles are constantly rearranging EVERYTHING in their tank and it's kind of a pain haha... one solution might be siliconing the decor in...but that would require completely draining and drying and redoing the tank!
I wish I can decorate my tank like these but my turtles eat everything or somehow hurt themselves. I had to take a rock out because my slider marked herself under her shell with it.
Hey I been having trouble with my turtle and I been reaching out to so many people for help. I have a hatchling. I had him for about a month and a half he isn’t eating or swimming do you have any advice? My last turtle was doing the same thing he was 5 months old I took him to the vet they said he was fine and he died
I have a 2020 youth eastern painted turtle that has its appetite diminished and is trying to dig under the log and rock in its tank. Is it trying to hibernate?
Hmm.....I mean they don't particularly "hibernate" but their metabolism *may * be slowing down. Sometimes mine would do that...but would perk back up in a couple weeks. Sorry I don't have much of an answer for ya
Does anybody know why my turtle is basking more than expected, I thought it would enter the water more and I’ve had it 3 days it’s only been in when I have put it in for feeds or when I sorted tank for it, it’s is eating fine every time but just don’t know if I’m doing everything right, I’ve got a tortoise but this is completely different, any advice please!!! also does it’s age have anything to do with it it’s around 1 centre meter bigger than a 2 pound coin. Best advise please I want a happy turtle Thanks 🐢
@@TheTurtleGirl Ugh, I literally released my three-toed box turtle and red-eared slider and I'm not sure if they made it this winter. The only person that can remind me oof them is you. I love ur videoS!
:( sorry to hear that. unfortunately I don't really have any suggestions since i've never had to deal with it personally, but there are a handful of videos on youtube walking you through how to treat it. If its bad, you may need exotic vet attention though.
My niece has a painted turtle we’re having big problems with controlling the algae. Is there a video on that? We’re both knew I have no idea what I’m doing wrong.
I have a video on algae! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qMSfSNZGGPA.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OYnCjm-J0lA.html
