Baltistan, which was a huge kingdom during the pre-partition era, is now divided between India and Pakistan where villages like Turtuk, Tyakshi, Thang, Bogdang, and Chulunkha are in India now.
The Turtuk village, which is just 7 km from the LoC (Line of Control between India and Pakistan) has a distinct culture of its own with Yabgo Dynasty's King's palace in Yol and the Balti Museum in Farol, as prominent places to see in Turtuk.
