www.bernina.co... | The new Adjustable gliding cup foot # 74 is designed for freehand, echo and shadow quilting, thread painting and appliqué.
With this special foot's height adjustment dial, it is easy to adjust the height of the presser foot to all fabric or quilt sandwich thicknesses. The transparent sole ensures a good view of the sewing project. Due to its curved shape, the foot glides perfectly over thick fabrcis or uneven surfaces like applications, decorvative seams or other embellishments.
For more information please visit www.bernina.co... or get in touch with your BERNINA dealer.

Thank you!

I also used the magnetic hoop. I have learned to put binder clips at each end of the hoop to keep it from slipping with the larger quilts I have done. Good luck and enjoy that awesome foot!

I recently purchased a #74 foot that was supposed to fit my Virtuoso 150 Quilters Edition. However, it does not. It will not fit because I cannot lock it into place. Is there a similar foot with an acrylic base that I can purchase since I have to return this one? I have been using my regular quilting/darning foot that came with my machine, but I wanted one with a larger see thru base.

Dear nleff, please refer to our accessory catalog for detailed information on our presser feet assortment, including full compatibility information: www.bernina.com/en-US/Support-US/Product-Catalogs On page 2 of the PDF catalog you will find a list of machines in different categories, your BERNINA Virtuosa being part of category B (B2). According to our accessory catalog and two our specialists here at Steckborn, Gliding Cup Foot 74 is compatible with category B and hence with your machine. Can you please retry and ask your dealer for help if you can't lock the foot into place? It should definitely be possible to attach foot #74 to a BERNINA Virtuosa machine. It is a relatively new foot and the Virtuosa doesn't use the old-style presser feet with a two-point shank opening (see page 9 of accessory catalog).

I'm disappointed to hear that. I purchased the foot for doing edge to edge quilting which is done in the hoop. You don't have to thread the bobbin for embroidery. I lowered the foot adjustment as low as it would go and seems to be working beautifully. I wanted this for for when I got to the edges of the quilt and had uneven layers. It does it's job and doesn't allow the quilt top to get hung up under the foot. My question, now, is, will it harm my machine or embroidery unit. It is working as I was hoping it would! Love the foot!

Hi deborahgtayler, no, it will not harm your machine or embroidery unit. If it does its job and if you are satisfied with the result, keep on using it!

I just purchased this foot for doing the edge to edge quilting as well. Please let me know how this works.

I purchased this foot for the same reason. Please let me know how it works in your hoop.

I have been using this foot for my edge to edge with great enthusiasm! You need to adjust the foot as noted in the video. I have mine adjusted all the way down. Adjust by using the brass thumb wheel on the foot. If it is too high, it will skip stitches or make large stitches. I couldn't be happier with this foot. It goes over the uneven edges of the quilt with such ease.

@@deborahgtaylor Thank you-I will try this next week since I am on “staycation” . I did a baby quilt on which i had put chenille it and I had to watch every stitch on the edge to edge--i live edge to edge especially with the magnetic hoop.

How does this differ from 44 foot?
@BerninaInternational
@BerninaInternational Год назад
Hi Pamela, the main differences are the following: Foot 74 is height adjustable. Once you have set the height using the height adjustment dial, the foot will keep its position, i.e. it will not "bounce" during quilting. Foot 44 is a so-called hopper foot. It moves up and down during sewing.

Can this foot also be used for embroidery in the hoop?
@BerninaInternational
@BerninaInternational 4 года назад
Hi deborahgtaylor, we don't recommend using this foot for embroidery in the hoop as it has no "hopper" mechanism. The spring o four height-adjustable presser feet #72, #73 and #74 serves another purpose. For embroidery in the hoop please use one of our embroidery feet, e.g. embroidery foot #26. Our embroidery feet are spring-loaded. The spring presses the foot onto the fabric. This prevents the fabric from "flagging" or riding up with the needle.

Is anything like this available for an older machine? I have a Bernina 930 and I’d like to do appliqué and free-motion stitching. Thanks in advance.
@BerninaInternational
@BerninaInternational 4 года назад
Hi Jeanne, thanks for asking. Unfortunately, foot #74 is not (yet) available for older machines. Maybe quilting foot #29 could be an alternative? For an overview of all our accessories including compatibility information, please refer to the full-range accessory catalog: www.bernina.com/en-US/Support-US/Product-Catalogs As you can see on page 2 of the PDF, the 930 belongs to category "A". Hence, all presser feet listed with "A" are compatible with your machine. There's a variant of the quilting foot #29 available for "A" machines, see page 33 of the PDF.

Confused: Video indicates zig zag tsitch can be used but this video has the straight stitch plate on the machine. Is that the right stitch plate for zig zag with foot 74?
@BerninaInternational
@BerninaInternational 4 года назад
Hi Vicki, thanks for asking. The foot can be used both for straight stitch and zigzag stitch. When sewing straight stitches we recommend that you use the straight-stitch plate. For zigzag stitches you should, of course, switch back to a 9 mm stitch plate (or a 5.5 mm stitch plate, depending on your machine). See 02:23 of the video.

@@BerninaInternational Thank you! That relieves my mind. I didn't see that part of the comment - almost hidden from me by the background and I was so intent on watching the machine perform. I have the new 74 foot!!

The Cut throat plate is selected..does it have a wider opening?
@BerninaInternational
@BerninaInternational 4 года назад
@@chrisgraeve5490 Dear Chris, the straight stitch plate can also be used for CutWork which is why we call it Straight-stich and CutWork plate. It only has a small opening. Please also see our video on stitch plates: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y3Zt9ybU7YA.html

@@chrisgraeve5490 The change in plate is listed in white caption during the video. I didn't catch that comment when I watched the first time. I was too intent on watching everything. Hopefully, you have found it now, too. Happy sewing/quilting!
