In this video, I demonstrate how to create a new spine using chipboard, Tyvek, and fabric. In this way, you can use vintage book covers, even when the spine is beyond repair, or is not the right size.
Thank you! In making a handmade custom “Grimoire”. My favourite anime revolves around grimoires for attacks and I want to make my own custom dream journal and design it as a grimoire that gives dream magic to whoever it is assigned to
I love your videos. You are so genuine. I am a senior and have scrapped for years. I just started making vintage journals and am hooked. Thanks for another great lesson. Cheers Joan
I was going happily along learning from your creative spine-making process, when suddenly got two Bonuses! First was seeing how to install replacement tape for my ATG! I love using the ATG, but struggle every time trying to get a new spool on. You made it look so clear and simple - I saw I’d been making it way too complex. Trying to wind several loops on the take-up roll. Not breaking the tape from the liner, etc. Thanks for continuing to record when you ran out of ATG tape! Also thanks for showing how you attach metal book corners. I’ve been squeezing them on with pliers, which usually bends them wonky. Using the Tim Holtz hammer gives a much happier result. Your videos are so fun and inspiring. Thank you!
I don't own an ATg gun, I have thought about buying one...eh don't know though. I love my red line tape though!!! Thank you for this video on how to redo a damaged spine it has been helpful!!
The red tape is DEFINITELY stronger hold than ATG. I use the red tape when I need to hold something important. I usually only use atg for card making and layering images for tags, lightweight stuff like that.
Thank you so much for sharing your process. Here's where I'm still stuck. I'm making a prayer journal for my mom right now. It's a larger version where some pages aren't big enough to fold into a signature. What do you recommend? Should I glue them back to back on another piece of paper that can fold into a signature or sew a bridge piece of paper between them? I hope this makes sense. I love my ATG! I'm kicking myself, the redline tape was on clearance at Joann this weekend and I didn't realize it was stronger than my ATG. Bummer! Thanks again!
You can find chip board (a heavy cardboard: it's not particle board) and Tyvek on Amazon: www.amazon.com/DuPont-Tyvek-55gm-A4-Sheets/dp/B00DRB0XIS/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=tyvek+sheets&qid=1613483169&sr=8-2 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076HVZZ8H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Nice tutorial! I use my ATG all the time, exactly as you do. I also use it for cardmaking - how many people keep cards long-term? I know I don't. (My best friend has every card I've ever made for her over the years! There's always that someone! ;-) )
My Stampin' up friends use the stampin' up tape runner, and one day, when I got my ATG gun out, They were so impressed! They said "Whoa! You are serious about your tape!!"
Hi, Jean. I think the red line tape is stronger than the ATG tape and other tape runners. It's also $3 a roll, so not cheap, but worth it if you want your projects to hold up. I just use it where I need the extra strength.

What on earth is all this tape stuff all about. Starch paste and a brush has worked for a thousand years and perhaps apt, given your 'vintage' penchant.
